Why is Telltale making this so difficult? Just post a Season 1 save game editor/creator, and let us get on with playing Season 2. These aren't CIA secrets from Season 1. Or just post a selection of Season 1 save files for us to choose from and download to our computers, so we can at least start Season 2 with something close to our choices from Season 1. Making it so that we had to either have an intact Season 1 save file or force us to play based on RANDOM choices really was a bad idea.
What about people who might have had a hard drive crash? Or who bought a different computer and don't have access to the old save? Or people like me, who originally played on iPad but would prefer to play on PC for Season 2? We should be forced to either play random choices, or spend another $25 to buy the game twice? Come on.
The prefs.prop in
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Telltale Games
is too small to be valid for a progressed playthrough. It was probably corrupted and replaced at some point.
There is a slim Chance you can restore your progress:
Please try the "restore previous version" feature (right click, "properties", "restore previous version") on the prefs.prop in the public savegame folder ( C:\Users\Public\Documents\Telltale Games ). If there are multiple versions try restoring each of them starting with the latest. If the prefs.prop is much bigger than 10KB chances are best it's the correct one.
Before you copy them back to the original savegame folder, please disable steam cloud for TWD (In Steam, right click TWD and select "properties". Open the tab "updates" and remove the checkbox from "Enable Steam cloud synchronization for TWD").
Hello,
I bought Season1 and 400days via Steam. Season 2 via your Website. My Season1/ 400day Saves are not found.
I used win98/winME com… morepatibility mode after I had to start over when my savegames were gone after Season1 Episode2.
I ziped the C:\Users\Thomas\Documents\Telltale Games folder for backup after finishing 400Days.
Today I realised that there are more recent saves in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead. I copied them to C:\Users\Thomas\Documents\Telltale. But the saves are still not found when launching Episode2.
I can't load my Season1 saves via Steam. This I don't understand, because I haven't touched Walking Dead installation or saves since playing 400days when everything worked fine. And the windows installation is over 2 years old...
http://www.sendspace.com/file/84yxfe
(I restored the original C:\Users\Thomas\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead Folder)
Please help me. I don't want to play with a random Clem...
Thanks in advance
Thomas
Thank you for your efforts. Unfortunately there are no previous versions.
Have You any idea what causes this Corruption? Can it be prevented? I mean Season 1 crashed once during Episode3. This was when I lost my save games the first time. But it never crashed on my second playthrough. So what destroys the File? Bugs? When the game wasen't even running in the last half year?!
I'm asking because i'm worried it will happen with Season2 saves as well at some point? If there are still Bugs I will wait till all episodes are released.

Season 2 has a different savegame system, so it won't have the same issue.
The season 1 savegame issues are most of the time caused by the game crashing and overwriting the prefs.prop, or the game creating the prefs.prop in multiple folders. Sadly there is no official fix.

I haven't heard of anything like that yet. There were some savegame sets in this forum, when i asked people to upload them, but most of them are probably deleted by now.
So at least no problems in the future :-)
One last question: Do you know by chance if there is somewhere on the internet a catalog of savegames with various choices for download?
I asked google but didn't find much.

I got a problem with importing TWD Season 1 saves to the second one. I had no problems before, I succesfully played Season Two. I recently got my hard drive changed though. I imported the saves with GameSave Manager. It imported just Season One saves, but ok, I can play Ep1 of S2 again. And theres the problem - i got all the 84 .save files and no .prop ones. I installed Season One once again, and it doesnt see my saves. Do I need those .prop files ? Are my saves without them gone ? Heres the tool file: http://www.sendspace.com/file/73nfpt
Hi, I have the steam versions of both seasons and my season 2 game will detect everything up until episode 5 but won't detect my progress from 400 days. Save files for both games appear to be in the right place. When I load up season 1 it also doesn't detect my stats from 400 days either, even though I just replayed through it the other night. When I also choose to play 400 days, it automatically loads the game from the point where Tavia encounters Vince and the group, using choices I made months ago instead of the choices I made during my most recent replay. After the credits roll my stats still don't show up. Here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ogznis
Please rename the prefs.prop in
C:\Users\Owner\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
to prefs.prop.bak to deactivate it.
Then move the prefs.prop from
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\WalkingDead106
to
C:\Users\Owner\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

Hi, I have played though Season 1 and 400 days on a previous installed Windows 7. Wiped the computed and installed Windows 8 before playing Season 2. But I backed up the savefiles and restored them and imported them on Season 2 Episode 1. All worked fine. But now when I start Episode 2 no save files are found. When I start Season 1 I only have a save file for Episode 1 (seems to be missing latest savefiles). No save file are found for Season 2 even if I finished episode 1. I updated to Windows 8.1 after Season 2 Episode 1 and before Episode 2.
It seems that you have made backup folders for your save files. I recommend that you do a search on your computer for prefs.prop. If you have duplicates, or extras that you may have backed up on your computer, please rename them to prefs.prop.bak. The only prefs.prop file you should have from Season One should be in C:\Users\GabeZ\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead . This one should stay named prefs.prop. After doing this, please start Season Two and hit the Play button on the main menu, and it should then find your Season One save files.

I played through season 1 and through 400 days. The files load fine for me in Season 1, but Season 2 isn't finding them
After looking over your support tool information, it seems that your prefs.prop file is too small for a full playthrough. Can you please clarify if you've ever duplicated or moved this file, and may have another copy on your computer somewhere?

I had some older backuped savefiles on another place on my harddrive. After reading other threads I deleted them to be sure. Now i don't have anymore prefs.prop files. But isn't it strange that I could import the savefiles for Season 2 Episode 1 but not for Episode 2? And inbetween e1 & e2 both savefiles for s1 & s2 seems to be resetted.

If you imported your Season One saves into Season Two to begin the game, you shouldn't have to import them again for Episode 2 of Season Two. Can you please clarify if when you start Episode 2, that you are making sure to continue your playthrough, and are not starting it as its own playthrough? Please make sure you are on the same save slot as your imported saves and completed Episode 1, before starting Episode 2.

I apologize for the inconvenience. It seems that your Season Two save file may have become corrupted. I recommend deleting/uninstalling Season Two, and re-downloading/reinstalling a fresh copy onto your computer. Unfortunately as the prefs.prop file from your Season One data in your Support tool seems to be only big enough to have an episode of data. You may have deleted the prefs.prop file with your full play through data. If this is the case, you will not be able to use that save data from Season One. I apologize for any difficulties this may cause. If you want to import Season One saves, my suggestion would be to play Season One again and create a new save game with matching save files and prefs.prop file, and then import them over into a fresh install of Season Two. Again, my apologies I could not be of more assistance.
Can you please clarify if you've ever copied, or moved your prefs.prop file? Also, when you say they are two separate saves, do you mean you played them on two separate save slots?

I apologize for the inconvenience. If you have ever deleted any prefs.prop files from your computer, you may have deleted the wrong one. If you backed it up to another folder, you may be able to still use it by replacing the prefs.prop folder currently in your Telltale Games/The Walking Dead folder. If you deleted the other one, then unfortunately you may not be able to use those saves.
Please try backing up the prefs.prop file that is in
C:\Users\Robert\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
to a folder on your desktop, and rename it to prefs.prop.bak. Then take the prefs.prop.bak file in
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
and move it to the C:\Users\Robert\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead folder, and rename it to prefs.prop. Then start the game, and see if you are then able to continue with your saves.
Hi.
I have a weird issue with the saves from Season 2 not being found, even though I've already played Ep 1-2.
Altough I did recently format my computer and installed Windows 8.1.
I wasn't sure what to search for in the forums, so if this problem have been discussed before, I apologize.

I apologize for the inconvenience. After looking over your support tool information, it seems like your Season Two data is not the correct size for a save file with episodes 1 and 2 on it. Can you please clarify if you backed up all of your files associated with The Walking Dead before formatting your computer? Also, did you ever play the game in a Compatibility Mode, or Run the game As Administrator?

Hi the TWD Support Tool doesn´t work in my Mac 10.9.2, I played Season 1 in this Mac and I want to continue season 2 in a Pc Vista with my save files, is that possible????
I started Season 2 in the Mac and it founds the saved files of the first season, so there must be somewhere...
I did no manual backup, as I thought the saves where supposed to sync with the Steam Cloud.
And I don't think I played in either Compatibility Mode or as an Administrator as I'm the only one using the computer.
Could there be a compatibility issue with Windows 8.1?

I didn't as well, and there was no reason to. Also, It makes no sense whatsoever for the game not to find its own save file, while at the same time it was able to find the save file of Season 1 without any problems.

Did both of you have Steam Cloud Synchronization turned on? We are currently looking into an issue where customers with Steam Cloud Syncing/Saving turned on are not able to see their saves, and hope to have a resolution in the near future. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

We believe this issue has been caused by having Steam cloud saves enabled for The Walking Dead: Season 2. Steam cloud save support for Season 2 was added on Monday, and if you did not disable cloud saving before launching the game, it is most likely that the saves on your computer were overwritten by the Steam cloud. Unfortunately, after a save has been overwritten, there is no way to restore the save, and you will need to either start Season 2 over, or start Episode 3 with generated choices. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience, and we recommend disabling Steam cloud saves for The Walking Dead: Season 2, and all other Telltale games.
