Game Crashes just after title screen

Hello, my game is crashing shortly after leaving the title screen, after the screen where the turning wind turbine appears. I get the error message 'walkingdead2.exe has stopped working' and no further info. I've verified my game cache and re-installed and I still get the same error.

I've run the twd support tool, here is the upload link : http://www.sendspace.com/file/lennjg

Thanks

I apologize for the inconvenience. Below are a few possible solutions (You may have tried a few of these, but I will give you all of the possible solutions that we have found to resolve this issue:

    1) Ensure you have the latest drivers for both your graphics card, and your computer’s BIOS

    2) Restart your system

    3) Unplug your gamepad (and all other USB devices other than keyboard/mouse) and plug in headphones to the audio out jack.

    4) Verify your cache if you purchased through Steam (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335)

    5) Run the game as admin

    6) Run the game in compatibility mode (right click on game, click properties, click compatibility tab , and we recommend running the game in Windows 98/ME ) (We recommend Windows 98/ME)

    7) Reinstall the game

    8) Make sure that the Steam application is not set to a compatibility mode (right click on steam and click properties, then check compatibility, and make sure that it is not checked to play in a different OS)
  • 1) Both are up to date - no change

    2) System updated and restarted - no change

    3) I do not use a game-pad, no other devices besides keyboard/mouse are plugged in; I have tried with ear-phones in the audio out jack - no change

    4) Cache verified - no change

    5) Game has been run as admin - no change

    6) Game will run in compatibility mode (98/ME) however it no longer detects my save data for episodes 1/2 of season 2, nor does it detect my save data for season 1 when starting a new game - if there is another way to do this - or a way to retrieve my save data while in compatibility mode I would appreciate that

    7) Game re-installed - no change

    8) Steam is not running in compatibility mode

I should note that up until the release of episode 3 the game was running flawlessly, as was season 1.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Below are a few possible solutions (You may have tried a few of these, but I will give you all of the pos

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please open the Steam Client and click on Steam at the top left of the window. Then click on Settings from the drop down menu. Then under the Account menu, next to the Beta participation category, click ‘Change…’ and then click on the drop down menu, and click on ‘NONE – Opt out of all beta programs’. Then go back to your Library and start the game, and you should not crash anymore.

Did anything about your computer's setup change between when the game was working, and now not working? Did you possibly change any display settings, or install any new programs that may be blocking the game from launching successfully?

  • Hardware changes: I went from using a DVI cord to an HDMI cord for my monitor, I also installed a new case fan

Software changes: As far as I can remember I've installed Visual Studio Pro 2013, the latest free-ware version of Unity, and that's about it as far as new software goes

If you are able to get to the main menu, please try lowering the games texture quality and/or resolution, and then see if you are able to play the episode.

  • I cannot get to the main menu as the game crashes while trying to load that screen (just after clicking past the intro screen which says 'click to continue' under The Walking Dead logo)

I can reach the main menu in compatibility mode, however changing the settings there, exiting, and then trying to run the game normally still results in a crash.

I have a few more suggestions for you to try.

If you have not already, please try updating your graphics card's drivers to the most recent version.

Also, please try installing and running the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer to make sure Direct X is auto updated to the latest version, and you should then be able to start the game. You can find the installer here:

Oh good it's just no me having this problem! What's weird is that I completed episode 3 and then went back for another playthrough and that's when I started experiencing the exact same problem as you. I have done everything I can think of with no luck. The only time my game runs is in compatibility mode, but just like you I don't want to do season 1 all over again.

Can you please clarify if you have any anti-virus or internet firewall programs running that may be blocking the game's communications with our servers? Also, have you changed anything about your computer's setup, such as a new monitor, or a new graphics card or new operating system?

My apologies, unfortunately If none of my above suggestions worked, I am out of potential solutions to resolve your issue. I recommend either try playing on another computer, or requesting a refund through Steam for your purchase. I sincerely apologize for any difficulties this may cause you.

  • Just a heads up that I was able to resolve this issue by deleting my save-game file and disabling cloud storage which leads me to believe that the problem was due to a corrupted save file.
