Episode 4 Trailer Discussion

edited May 2014 in The Wolf Among Us
**Note: There will probably be spoilers for the previous episodes**

So TTG have put their trailer on Youtube now, and it looks pretty damn good. I've just got some points to make along with some questions about it:

It definitely looks like we will be heading to the Homelands, which sounds absolutely brilliant.

Bigby will get into a fight with an unglamoured Fable in his half-wolf mode

It is heavily implied that Bigby's search for answers will put his friends (especially Colin) in danger, and it appears that Bloody Mary attacks him in his apartment (although it could easily be some sort of nightmare too).

The trailer also shows some sort of sign or seal (0:28) in the trailer, along with a look at someone from behind in a room of potions and other things. He looks like he is wearing an apron, and he could be the "Butcher" - who is in fact a potionmaker. The sign doesn't seem to look like anything specific, and if anyone wants to see they'll will need to pause the trailer. Also, it is appearing out of nothing, so it must be magical. (EDIT: According to dojo32161 the sign is one seen in a parcel from the Butcher, so there is no doubt that the sign is that of the Butcher)

At 0:31, it very briefly shows bloodied chains on the floor below what looks like a chair and table. Judging by the blood, it could be a torture chamber - possibly testing potions on them. Linking this to the mysterious creature that will fight Bigby, it could be that the creature whose hand is seen (briefly at 0:47) has escaped from that imprisonment maybe. (EDIT: The fight with the Jersey Devil thing happens in the Pawn Shop, where Jack was. It looks like it comes out of a wardrobe or closet. Could it be attacking Jack, or does he know more about this?)

Bigby says "this is bigger than I thought it was. And I didn't see it, didn't stop it". Something big is here at play, guessing it is about the portal to the Homelands, and some massive cover-up. It must link to the story, so there is something far stranger about the murders themselves.

Bigby talks to Nerissa, who warns him to look after his friends. Linking this to the end of Episode 3, she knows something important, possibly about Bloody Mary.

It briefly shows Beauty and Beast hugging, and her look makes me think that they are worried about something. Possibly something to do with the Crooked Man?

at 0:40 it shows the legs of someone walking. Does anyone have any ideas about who it could be? Of course it is probably Bigby, but it could be a subtle hint.

At points in the trailer where it shows Bigby, there is a small plaster on the right side of his neck.

THE BIG ONE! And at 1:00, it shows a door which is glowing, definitely the door to the portal. I'm interested in the wall of the door. The "lost cat" poster is there, but there is also a sign that says "Department of Gen. Services, Central Park Conservancy" and a lot of graffiti. One piece of graffiti that can be seen clearly is "JCB" with the rest being scrawly, with an empty bottle nearby and a large object on the right of the door. Is it just a rock or does anyone have any other ideas? At 0:29, it shows a more zoomed out look at the door, and a lamp and grass are seen on the left, with the actual door looking to be under a bridge. Is this an actual place in New York, and does it have particular relevance?

EDIT: Also, there has been a lot of talk on the forums about hints being dropped by TTG Staff, like random words or phrases. On the blog, @lauraperusco has posted "Downington, 1937". I'm not from America so I don't know whether this is a street name over there. Another tweet was by @telltalegames which posted "Greenwich, 1925". Any ideas about it?

So these are all things that I have taken from the trailer. Feel free to add to anything I've said or post your own ideas and thoughts. Get hyped!

  • Creature at 0:47 is definitely the Jersey Devil, we can be sure of that. Telltale hinted at it already.
  • Like I said in the other thread-I have the feeling that Woody and Bigby will team up against Jersey Devil.
  • It's "Jersey Devil" here a thread about him
  • Wonder where Dee and Dum are in this episode.
  • I googled it and it sounds pretty weird. Unless it was actually a Fable it would be very strange to have it in the story

  • Gonna say it again, since OP hasn't gotten it yet: The Downingtown 1937 and Greenwich 1925 hints are at "The Jersey Devil", look it up on the wiki.
  • well in the previews Woody was warning Bigby from interfering in something. He will definitely have some involvement

It counts as a Fable, as it's a folklore creature, like The Slenderman or Big Foot. It's not JUST fairytales. Hell, Gren is a Norse legend.

  • oh right, thanks for pointing that out. Didn't think it'd have a wikipedia page. Solves that mystery then

  • Well, it seems like it`ll be a great episode. The Fable Bigby may fight will probably be the Jersey Devil that was mentioned these days. It would be interesting if we could go to the Homelands. Bloody Mary may use that mirror near the sink to enter the apartment. I didn`t payed attention to the guy in the apron when i saw the trailer, i think you`re right, he may be The Butcher. I noticed Bigby saying that this is bigger than what he thought, we`ll probably have to see the episode to completely understand what he meant. Nerissa will probably give us some clues, she seems to feel guilty about something. I think Beauty and Beast have finally been honest with each other, they may be worried about the debt too. I think the leg is Bigby`s. I didn`t noticed the poster about the cat :))) , i looks like a rock, i have no idea about the location. When i first saw Jack i thought he`ll lead us to The Crooked Man, now i`m starting to think we`ll meet The Butcher thanks to him.
  • I wonder about it too.

Wonder where Dee and Dum are in this episode.

  • Dead and maimed

Did anyone else notice that the location of the portal is the same as the place from Episode 1 preview, with Bigby and Prince Lawrence - if you saved him - looking for Faith's body (the 'where is the rest of her?' scene that ended up being cut from the next ep). Maybe in the original script for Episode 2 it was a playable location that was supposed to resurface now with Bigby realizing that there must be some sort of hidden portal there?
  • I just had a thought that maybe some Fables and urban legends like Bloody Mary have come through this portal, since the Fabletown government seems to know nothing of Bloody Mary and maybe didn't even know she existed.

Nerissa, Beauty, Snow... Bigby will save you all. You can count on him.
  • It seems like a good idea.

I'm enjoying reading ALL of these points, but the one that has gotten me most interested is the fact that Mary swings the Axe at Bigby's head (Which is death for a Fable) though, like mentioned in the OP, could be a dream.

It's also interesting that non-fairytales are starting to appear, possibly something to do with that portal?
  • Just like he saved Faith?

  • Maybe the Butcher has been using body parts of Fables to produce that red powder you can find in the Tweedles' cellar? I imagine it could be used in magical rituals, etc.
  • I don`t even want to think about that possibility.

  • reallly like your idea!! keep the theories comin

  • yeah i think its a dream too it makes me worry for bigby the fact tht he so afraid of her and tht hes lucky to have escaped with his life.

hope your theory on the portal is right

  • i mean it depends on wat u choose at then end of episode 3 but theres still the other brother left (i forget which)

    Dead and maimed

  • yeah my biggest fear with beauty was tht georgie wud make her a working girl offering her money to pay back her debt and then shes be stuck in georgies clutches like hollys sister was.

if you mean the glowing door's location i thought it was under the bridge in the park tht was shown in episode one in the first couple of scenes i believe, idk i may be wrong but it did look familiar.

  • very good spot there, it looks very similar to that scene. I really wanted to have that Lawrence scene in Episode 2, and it doesn't look like they will have it now since there is now a not too discreet portal there.

  • Is it possible that we could die and be rebirthed?
  • Yes, revival is possible.

  • That night was an exception. Sometimes a wolf has to have their own sleepy time, and by golly, Bigby was pooped.

  • At around :50, Nerissa says that she doesn't have any friends left. Does this mean that Vivian is dead? Maybe I'm just reading too far into it haha.
  • I thought about that too when i heard her.

  • I'm thinking that Vivian is not actually her friend.

Nerissa could very well get herself killed by talking to Bigby..

After re-watching the trailer, I truly hope that the Bigby-Mary scene in the apartment is real (even though it will probably end up as his nightmare or something like that). I mean, Nerissa tells Bigby that friends matter and he should take care of them etc. I don't know how that would fit into canon, but what if Bigby will find out that everybody is in danger and he decides to sacrifice himself to ensure their safety? Nerissa's words from the trailer and Episode 5 achievements (the ones foreseeing Bigby's "death"?) would make sense. Then the actual Episode 5 would pick up with Bigby coming back to bring the killer to justice, but no one in The Woodlands would know that he's alive and probably won't believe that - the title 'Cry Wolf', anyone? :) I think that would be an epic conclusion to the season, but I guess that "killing" Bigby (even for him to come back) is not going to play well with the comic book canon (because it is not stated if Bigby ever "died" before issue #1).
