If you're not gonna make choices matter, at least do this.

I've yesterday thought up of a pretty nice idea IMO, that i wish could appear in the final episode of The Wolf Among Us.

I think we pretty much know, it's only gonna be the illusion of choice. We had a lot of choices, but eh, what did that ever do besides differenting dialogue here and there? Although i think i know how could Telltale take advantage of what they did so far.

My answer to this dillemma is, make two different endings for episode 5. A good and an evil one, depending on how many times have you chosen to be violent, or lawful. If the player has killed, or terrorized, or just in general was a dick to certain people, let the ending be Bigby's wolf side fully taking over him. If the player has been more nicer, merciful, just let the ending be based around that, in my opinion it would make up for the gigantic lack of choices mattering. I think plenty of people would be happy if Telltale did that.

  • If making multiple endings was possible, don't you think they already considered it?

  • The Wolf Among Us though seems like such a good opportunity for that kind of thing though.

  • I think a lot of people might complain then that they should have had a choice as to whether their "evil" Bigby continues in his brutal ways or has a turnaround at the end or whether their "good" Bigby continues to be as decent as he can or whether he ends up giving in to his darker side. So Telltale probably aren't going to make the ending a culmination of all of Bigby's good and evil choices. They might have different endings, but if they do, it'll probably be based on some choice that the player makes near the end of the episode.

  • If there won't be a season 2, then this would be a great chance to give TWAU multiple endings. I'd love it.

  • They've done it with Jurasssic Park.

  • I get your point but, for instance, with the Walking Dead game if they had two different endings of some players with an alive Lee and others with a dead Lee then that would be like literally making two games at once because that would change the story of a lot of players different. At the end of the season I clearly hope for different endings based on all of my choices back in all of the other seasons because then they wouldn't have trouble. But if the Wolf Among Us is signed up for a new season then there clearly won't be much difference in the ending of each of us. Maybe you'll get to side with the Crooked Man's people to defeat him and they might or might not join you depending on how you treated them (if you destroyed Georgie's place, if you killed Dee/Dum, etc.)

  • Well in these games choices have always been just illusions. You can decide a course of events here just as much saving or killing an ally in The Walking Dead. It doesn't change the plot, because that same charachter is gonna die anyway shortly after for plot reasons and give the same game experience to all players.

I reckon that probably TWAU suffered much from the plot being rewritten after episode one. I sense that whatever reason iis behind that, it daramatically changed the game experience ad presented us with a sort of maimed game. It's still great, but it feels short not very deep.

I suspect DC is behind this. They pèrobably forced telltale to rewrite the plot for some reason.

  • Maybe this series is more complicated writing wise and wouldnt necessarily lend itself to that. We're dealing with characters that are already known, loved and established from the comics. You have to tread a little more carefully.

  • Well, I doubt it will happen. It looks like its already pretty much in the can if you go by Adam Harrington's tweet. He has wrapped up his part at least.

The Wolf Among Us though seems like such a good opportunity for that kind of thing though.

let the ending be Bigby's wolf side fully taking over him.

Those endings wouldn't make a lot sense, though. Bigby is in full control of his transformation and he does so when he feels it's necessary, it isn't related by how angry or how affected he was in a certain period of time. I do understand what you are trying to say and I agree.

I would assume the way we treated some people will have some sort of relevance.....like maybe some people will join in your fight to catch the Crooked Man depending on how you treated them(tear Gren's arm, kill Dum,trash Georgie's place..). I say a different ending is possible, but it might be related to a choice we have to make near the end of the game, without having too much impact.

  • You read my comment wrong. I'm saying IF there won't be a season 2, they should make Episode 5 have MULTIPLE endings, and I'd love that because of the replay value. I wish there was a season 2, but it's looking quite unlikely thus far.

I really think there should be 4 sort of endings.

    1) You arrest the crooked man, you were a good Bigby to most of the fables and you earn their respect as Sheriff and Snow thanks you for being a good cop

2)You kill the Crooked man, but you were good Bigby so most people accept it was necessary, Snow says she understands but is disappointed in you

    3) You arrest him but you were dick Bigby, the people are just happy to have it over but they think Bigby is just letting him get off easy and he's just a tool of Fabletown's crap leadership, Snow says shes happy you didn't let the wolf inside win

    4) You kill and were king of the assholes, People chastise Bigby as being a murderous beast and just as bad as the CM but at least the murders will stop, Snow either says you're just as bad as Bluebeard or suspends you from being Sheriff for a while

5th bonus ending, Toad bursts into Bigby's office " It's time Bigby, you still owe me for the car" A massive 4 hour long QTE epic fight happens which levels the whole of New York with the final choice being to either finish Toad or declare your undying love for him while you two have a passionate wedding on the remains of the city. Telltale if you'd like to contact me to hire me after reading this masterpiece bonus ending you can always hit up the username.

  • I don't see why they couldn't have 2 endings the evil one would be non canon while the good one is since we all pretty much know what's gonna happen, we will catch the killer, kill Bloody Mary or arrest same with crooked man and it will all be back to normal, there should be an evil ending where bigby can ally himself with the crooked man.

I don't think so. The choices are there just to give the illusion that this is a game rather than a video. None of the choices will make any difference in episode 5 except in the attitudes of characters when Bigby encounters them. What Bigby says and does will not affect what the other characters actually DO, only how they will talk to Bigby later in the game.

A good example of this is Bigby betraying Beauty's trust. The only consequence to the game was that she argued with her husband Beast and mouthed off to Bigby when he went to their apartment.

  • You know Telltale doesn't decide the ending right? Either way the ending will be with Bloody Mary since she is the toughest opponent and the only option will be how to kill her.

I don't think multiple endings are possible on the level telltale develops. AAA studios can't even pull that off if you think about it. There is only going to be one ending. Plus, telltale are limited by an established cannon so they are sort of in a box to begin with. The one decision in the series where there was an actual consequence to your decision (Lawrence living or dying) turned out to be meaningless anyway. So I'm not too confident we're going to get a choice of how things turn out even if I am wrong.

My feeling is that there isn't going to be a season two, so I guess there is a small space to wiggle in being they don't have to continue the story. If the download file is over a gig then there is a chance different outcomes, but I doubt it.
