why they kinda downplayed bigby's ability in this game?
in the comics
a little comic spoiler about comic bigby's ability
his sense of smell is so sharp he can smell and identify all of people in the woodlands apartment *
his hearing is so sharp he can basically sense lies from people's heartbeat and can detect the heartbeat of denizens of woodsland. in the comic, they explained why bigby got the job, because he's just so good at tracking and detecting people with his super senses. for gameplay purpose, those could be an interesting game mechanic.
his "werewolf" transformation isn't his final form. in the comic he can turn into 2 meters high, 3 meters long giant wolf, with all his senses amplified and so far he hasn't used his huff & puff ability. he's able to blow wind so strong it can make objects fly even tear trough forest. ( justified by he's in the middle of NY and using any of those powers would attract unwanted mundy attention )
anyway this is still a great game and don't get me wrong

Yeah, and that one particular ability that's related to Snow White would mean he would never have been fooled by the first episode's cliffhanger.
There's also the implication that his transformation (and worst, Beast') is triggered Incredible Hulk style by getting angry or amped, which isn't the case in the comics.
I believe they wanna make this game "hard and mysterious". If they were to allow Bigby to do all that, we'd have a boring game probably.
Though I'd love a giant wolf ;(
Yeah, they nerfed Bigby hardcore.
That's alright though, Telltale better make him turn into his final form for the finale. Seriously.
Yes, because no one would notice him... do we really need to waste Fabletown money like that? Bloody Mary is not that strong without her silver bullets. But, since we already saw Bigby jumping on a moving car...
Well, Bigby's usually smart on where he picks his fights, far away from wandering Mundy eyes. Besides, if fighting in public were to be an issue, he or Snow could always ask one of the 13th floor witches to provide him with a concealment spell or something, if he just so happened to turn into his true wolf self.
If that makes any sense.
I'm not a Fables reader so I don't know much about the character backgrounds apart from what I've read from the Internet, but since Bigby in the game is so under-powered compared to the comic Bigby, do you think maybe Telltale might be trying to present him growing in powers? Yes right now he might have little comparable ability, but he could by the end be encouraged to hone his senses to the extent shown in the comics
I'm thinking we might get to see Bigby using his huff and puff next episode. That, or we'll be seeing Mr. North. What was it that Bigby said? "Depending on how the wind blows"? I think that was it. It's probably a hint at Mr. North's hopefully upcoming appearance.
At this point in the comic, he is pretty strong, so I dont think so. I think its just because he has to be at least somewhat relatable and if he had superhuman powers, there wouldnt be a mystery to solve. He'd know who and how and why ten minutes into the first episode.
I know, but it's not cheap. It seems like Bigby and Mary won't fight in a public place.
The enchantment most likely hid the smell, since Bigby did use his powers of smell at the crime scene.
The creator of Fables, Bill Willingham, is working with Telltale to guide the direction of The Wolf Among Us, so if the enchantment wasn't present, he would have definitely have caught that.
I would like Telltale to make Bigby smoke more to be more realistic considering his sense of smell.
I'm not talking about the smell of the severed head, though. The reason Bigby chainsmokes is to dull his sense of smell because living in a city overwhelms it. However, no matter how much he tries, he cannot block out Snow's scent and he is constantly aware of where she is and how she's feeling. Unless you are referring to some other, not yet introduced, enchantment, I doubt a glamored head would also absolutely block the real Snow's scent up until she steps in to that interrogation room.
There are several other things that don't mesh with the comics. I just assumed Bill Willingham simply let some things slide for the sake of the game.
Be funny if this turns out like the first Fables story arc, where Bigby pretty much cracked the case a few minutes in, doesn't tell anybody, and drags it out until he can pull off a classic whodunit parlor scene.
He does kind of do that in the first volume of the comic.
Beat me to it.
The achievement north wind blows clearly indicates that we'll see Bigby use his power of control over the lesser winds. Can't wait for him to blow bloody Mary.
that sounds . . . . erotic :P
It's been stated in the comics that Bigby excessively smokes because he needs to 'tone down' his senses. How many times does Bigby light up a smoke every episode? It's understandable that his senses are not that sharp. Besides, he did remark on the sample of Snow's hair when going through Lilly's glamour tube in E2 as well as saying that he smelled Crane in Auntie Greenleaf's apartment in E3.
But I do agree with you on his final wolf form. I'm hoping it gets shown in the finale.
TT didn't just make him weaker physically. The comix Bigby (particularly in the first 3 story arcs) has something admirable and respectable about him that I just don't see in the game character. In the books, he's almost like an undercover Jedi. He understands stuff that even the reader doesn't know he understands. But TT has made him clueless, emotionally weak, not in charge of his own job, pushed around by everyone from girls to mobsters to a pig, confused, defensive, ineffective, and pussy-whipped. The comix character is someone you'd look up to IRL, someone you'd want as your dad. The game Bigby is just some chain-smoking guy who can turn into a big bad wolf.
This can't be fixed by making aggressive choices in the game, because those choices aren't like the comix Bigby either; they're just Bigby being an unfeeling bully and an uncaring, violent dick.

How could he possibly smoke more? He smokes in every single scene. Outside the pawn shop, he stepped on his cigarette butt and lit another one. He even lit up immediately before confronting the Crooked Man.
I used to smoke pretty good, but if I smoked as much as Bigby does, I'd throw up.

I agree. Game Bigby seems to be just some small town gum shoe detective in over his head, who just happens to get super strong when he's miffed.
Several other characters have altered personalities too, particularly Snow, who is actually a teddy bear compared to her comic counterpart, yet seemingly somehow less likeable if the comments in this forum's anything to go by.
To make more sense they would have to. Bigby smokes so his brain and nose don't fry from an information overload. Bigby can smell everything in a 20 mile radius when he ain't smoking or focused on a scene, that is every food item, every garbage can, every car, every diaper, every toilet, every sewer, etc.
agreed. still if was for the sake of creating relatable character and make the game seems harsh. comic bigby would tear trough the case in like 1 day lol. or like someone said. he knew everything all along but playing along with other characters. also the incident with bloody mary was unexpected.
If she weren't such a you-know-what she can be considered attractive enough..
Also small bullets can't enough to kill him. He can recover easily.
Plus, if he dies, he will come back. Very well-known fable.
