"The Wolf Among Us.exe has stopped working" - post troubleshooting

I downloaded the game, but after attempting to launch it, the screen goes black and then a message pops up saying "“The Wolf Among Us.exe has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Per the FAQ list, I made sure that no exclamation marks were present in the path, but the problem persists.

I'm attempting to run the game on Windows 7. Please help.

    I apologize for the inconvenience. Below are a few possible solutions:

    1) Ensure you have the latest drivers

    2) Restart your system

    3) Unplug your gamepad (and all other USB devices other than keyboard/mouse)

    4) Verify your cache if you purchased through Steam (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335)

    5) Run the game as admin

    6) Run the game in compatibility mode (We recommend Windows 98/ME)

    7) Reinstall the game

    8) Make sure that the Steam application is not set to a compatibility mode (right click on steam and click properties, then check compatibility, and make sure that it is not checked to play in a different OS)

    My apologies, unfortunately the file you uploaded cannot be opened, as it is an .lnk file. Please make sure that you are uploading the .zip file that the support tool outputs, and we will be able to assist you further.
