Why didn't Marry use a gun?
I don't appreciate plot holes in a story heavy game. Letting aside so many unexplained details in this episode, the most obvious flaw is: why didn't Marry simply shoot Bigby with silver bullets? If she enjoys fighting, she should have done that in their earlier encounter. Even the crooked man had a chance to shoot him, but instead he chooses to just watch as Bigby takes out Marry. This doesn't make an ounce of sense.

Bigby entered alone in the Crooked Man's lair, where they were waiting for him. They could all have guns with silver bullets. This is the biggest plot hole in the entire series, and there is no reason for Bigby to win this one except for plot armour and questionable writing.
The crooked man ordered Marry to kill him in front of Bigby instead of just sniping him because Bigby had to witness him giving the order. Attention whore maybe? This episode's writing was horrible.
She didn't have time to take one with her because she had to get the crooked man out of the lair fast.
There also wasn't other guns than the crooked man's in the factory and he didn't wanna give it to mary in case if Bigby ignores Mary and somehow gets pass her and attacks the crooked man, the crooked man could protect himself.
That's one theory. Also, Bigby was in a bad shape so maybe Mary taught she could kill him whitout the silver bullets and get to 'play' with him for a little while.
Can't fables have faith in their own abilities to take down Bigby, instead using insta win weapons? This topic sounds like someone asking "why can't everyone see into the future and know she will be beaten by Bigby?"
Mary's pretty psychopathic and was totally convinced she could beat Bigby. She was in it for the thrill of slowly killing him, rather than just because she had to. The Crooked Man had the gun because- well, it's protection. Mary just wanted to kill Bigby in her own way and paid for it.
If everything in games goes like in real life, Bigvy would've died already in Episode 3.
Episode 4 and 5 would have been just black screen because Bigby is dead.
If Crooked man ordered Bigby dead he could have very well killed him when he entered the building with his gun.
One of Marry's clones could have held the gun instead of throwing themselves at a 10m long monster. Crooked man could have shot Bigby from the foundry when Bigby finished the fight and lied on the ground.
These are loads of non sense.
Guns don't really appear as a big part of the Fables canon. The writers tend to stick to the source material when crafting the characters in the books, and eing characters from the fairy tales (and myths and legends and so forth), they tend to use a lot of magic - spells, curses, and the like. When they do use weapons, they're from the stories, and pretty much always swords. For instance, when Blue cuts off the Emperor's head, it's with the Vorpal Sword (when an AK-47 would probably have done him just fine), when Charming kills Bluebeard it's in a duel using swords (both men are skilled at dueling), and when Fly/Ambrose set out on his quest to reclaim his kingdom from the Adversary, he equips himself with Excalibur. Otherwise, the characters tend to use their innate abilities when fighting: Bigby wolfs out, Grimble and Hobbes de-glamour into their respective Troll and Goblin form, and Beast becomes, well, a beast. So it makes sense that Bloody Mary, whose legend involves mirrors, blood, screaming and eye-gouging (and not guns), would choose to instead use her those powers (which were pretty cool, IMO) in her big showdown with Bigby.
BTW, there are occasionally guns in the series, but they usually appear only during appropriate historical sequences (US Civil War, WWII) and we don't ever really see any Fables use them. It seems like Willingham intentionally left guns out of the Fables universe and that the writers of TWAU only included the pistol loaded with silver bullets in the game because it was expedient or because it fits into the stylistic conventions of the Film Noir genre they were exploring.
tl;dr I don't think it's a plot hole as much as it is the writers trying to stick to canon.
As Arbitrator said, Mary is crazy and a main reason for working for the crooked man is for fun. Both Mary and the Crooked Man were convinced that Bigby would be beaten, hence not using the gun and letting Mary do as she will. However, I believe Bigby can take silver bullets in his full gorm, and they did not have many in the first place, so using them at that point would been useless.
Uhhh, the Fable comics include guns almost as often as they don't, in my experience. You've mentioned a bunch of occasions when traditional weapons or powers were being used, but I've got a bunch of occasions where guns were indeed used by the fables. Let's start with the Farm rebellion, when every inhabitant who could carry weapons naturally was already equipped with one and all those who can't operate a weapon because of their physiology, were being provided devices to wear and operate them by Weyland Smith. Later on, Goldilocks hunts down Bigby and Snow with a high powered rifle. Bluebeard carries pistols with him nearly all the time. I think the only reason he chose to fight Prince Charming with swords is because he believed the latter was out of practice and would be easy to defeat. Oh and let's not forget the grand Battle of Fabletown, where the attackers and defenders alike used multitudes of firearms. Conclusion? The Fable comics feature guns almost as often as they do not, so they indeed have their place in the game and the overall canon.
Well, Mary certainly seemed to be enjoying herself while fighting Bigby, if you look at her, she was smiling through most of it. Even when he goes full wolf, she lets out a big satified grin.
I bet she felt just shooting him would ruin the fun, or something. She's pretty sadistic. Her bio states that she's only working for the Crooked Man because she finds it "fun" , after all.
This doesn't make any sense either if you think about it. Does Mary call the shots? No. The crooked man should have shot him as he entered the building since he meant to eliminate him.
Yeah, but it's not real life. That's not really a plot hole. They have magic powers. That's part of the universe.
The Tweedles used guns. Mary had a gun. Prince Lawrence had a gun.
They COULD HAVE but... What's the interest? They're Fables not Terminator or Men In Black.
I think the Tweedles really had to just because they play a certain role and not having any kind of magic power, they go for the guns. It's not like they have fighting skills either... So, yeah
For Lawrence's case... That's another thing. It's suicide. He can't just do it with a crown. Yes, he cut his veins with a knife whatever it is... But, yeah.
LOL, if it was up to the OP this would be one boring ass game.
In nearly every other film, game or book there are situations where the hero could have get eliminated faster. As an prominent example, the villains in the old Bond movies always created some complicated death scenes, for him When they just could have shot him.
I think that in the first scene in his lair the Crooked Man didn't want to kill Bigby. He thought that they could come to some kind of agreement.
And the second time, well it's probably like Georgie said. He doesn't like to get his hands dirty. Directly killing someone is just not his thing. When he saw that Bloody Mary lost the fight, he thought that he could talk his way out at the trial. I mean he had them all in his pockets and technically the murderer was not him. The gun was just some kind of negotiation help
He's a business man, not a killer.
The Crooked Man doesn't care how it's done, just that it's done.
If you read the Book of Fables, it states or implies the Crooked Man gave little to no restrictions on how Bloody Mary gets her "work" done. Of course, Mary could have gotten a gun and loaded it with silver bullets (probably smarter).
However, either the Crooked Man decided to take the gun for himself, or Bloody Mary chose to fight him without it. If it's the former, well, it's just the Crooked Man being the Crooked Man. If it's the latter...well, Mary must have supreme confidence in her abilities.
She was more than a match for Bigby, until he transitioned to his "Big Bad" form. She even seemed happy that he transformed, until he did his "Huff and Puff" routine and broke her glass clones. She got serious then, but once Bigby got a hold of her, well...that was it.
She probably want to look strong and to tell people that she killed the wolf by herself
I'm guessing she simply didn't feel threatened. Although I do think it's a bit of a plot hole, since she should have at least ATTEMPTED to get her gun once she realized that Bigby was gonna tear her to pieces. That's just common sense and no matter how overconfident or crazy Mary is, I don't think she'd just accept her death like that.
Mary was a bloody psycho, who was killing for fun. Simply shooting Bigby wouldn't have satisfied her bloodlust, she wanted to violently rip him apart, that's how she got her kicks.
Cause she wanted to fight her own way and not win like a cheap bastard?
Ugh, how did I forget the Farm Rebellion and the Battle for Fabletown? It's been such a long time since I've read the first three trades…
I pretty liked it when not everyone had a gun. If that were the case Bigby would also carry a gun for his safety and then again probably everyone else. But then he could just shoot anybody who's pissing him off. There would be no point in using magic or the fables powers. Then we just get another crime tale where everything is solved with guns. Also guns usually affect your health in a.. well, pretty permanent way. Where in other games it is no big deal if someone's dying or people being shot down like flies, it IS actually a big deal in the Fable universe. You see the reaction when Bigby ripps off the arm of Grendel. The reaction when he actually kills someone.
It's like Sin City where everyone does have a tremendous amount of health (to speak like videogames). A simple gunshot won't kill anyone. It's not about being realistic or NOT realistic. It is about reducing the deadliness of guns/situations, to give the writers more options to solve disputes (because killing is pretty fast and sometimes uncreative). To let heroes AND villians live, to recover, to weave new story strings and arcs.
please delete, double post.
Yeah but the creator of this thread thinks it should be like that, because unlike the crooked man, if someone's threatin' my life, I would shoot that sonovanbitch at the right moment when he tries to attack me.
It would be lame if everyone just uses a silver bullet revolvers to bigby, then there wouldn't have been the epic mary battle, just dogding silver bullets all the time. That would be boring as shit.
She is made of glass shards sharp as, well, glass... can make hundreds of copies of herself, can seemingly teleport, and has a bad temper and fury to kill. Guns are way old fashioned. :P
Isn't it possible Mary simply wanted to fight? She's a powerful Fable. The most powerful Fable Bigby fought in the game. And after how she saw him fall to the ground out in the alleyway I wouldn't be too surprised if she underestimated how powerful he really is.
Plus using guns would just be flat-out cheap. Would it have been fun to fight a person with a gun that would likely kill you in one shot? Answer: No, it wouldn't have been.
