Faith's Bruises

edited July 2014 in The Wolf Among Us

Okay, so there are a couple of different theories floating around about Faith being glamoured as Nerissa and vice versa. But in Episode 1, Faith's head had bruises on it, the same as earlier in the episode when Woody beat her. A glamour would not replicate these bruises. This means that the Faith we met in Episode 1 indeed died later in Episode 1. So, we have 2 options.

  1. The unreliable narrator. Everything is exactly as it seems before the ending. Faith died in Episode 1 and Nerissa never put on glamour. Bigby desperately wants Faith to be alive so he starts hearing things at the end of Episode 5. Either Nerissa simply has similar mannerisms to Faith or Bigby is hallucinating as a result of sleep deprivation and his injuries. The evidence that Faith is still alive is so flimsy, but Bigby is convinced that she's still alive.

  2. Telltale didn't know what they were doing in Episode 1, and this was an oversight. In which case I don't see the point of discussing either of the Nerissa as Faith, Faith as Nerissa theories.

Either way, I call bad writing on Telltale.

  • I was pretty confused by the time the whole thing wrapped up. Either they're trying to throw a twist our way that just wasn't set up very well or I just completely missed a lot of things which might be a side effect of waiting for so long in between episodes. Overall I liked the game though and hope there's another one.

  • Yeah. I think I'm just going to pretend that Bigby's flashback didn't happen. Everything up to that point was well thought out.

  • Lily had her track marks. The glamours were imperfect.

It's too much of a coincidence for Nerissa to use the exact same words and mannerisms Faith did at the beginning. It has to be the same person.

Faith's fable is all about disguising herself and tricking everyone in order to save herself and escape a kingdom which she's bound to.

Who knows, she might have bruised the glamoured fake Faith's head in a similar way to herself before dropping it off to Bigby , or
George might have slapped her around before undoing the ribbon. Or maybe glamours just replicate exactly what the targets look like at the time it's being done, bruises and everything.

  • It's a good catch, and a little weird, yes. The bruises could have been replicated, though, or the glamour could have been applied after Bigby runs into Faith. She left her donkeyskin coat at Woody's apartment, so that at least implies that the Faith we meet in the first episode is the real deal. There are other theories too, Bloody Mary were taking pictures of Bigby and Faith from reflective surfaces and might have known exactly what she said to him, and in her first appearance she also makes the exact same salute Faith did.

Personally, my Bigby decided that it was just a weird hunch with no evidence to support it, and that Nerissa's business wasn't his anymore, so he let her go without commenting. On a meta level, all fables not living in Fabletown are routinely tracked down and checked up on to make sure they're not breaking the laws, and a mermaid is seen on the farm in the comics around twenty years after the game...

In the end it's ambiguous, and the bruises make some theories a little less credible without making them entirely implausible.

  • Which is why I think Faith will hold true to the plot of her original story, where after disguising herself and escaping the kingdom, she goes to a far, far away place and starts a new life. She is holding a travel bag in the ending, after all. I'm pretty sure she's leaving Fabletown.

  • We never met faith I believe, faith was dead before episode one and Nerissa was glamoured as faith and then put the head at his doorstep so he would feel obligated to pursue the crime immediately and lily's head was just icing on the cake.

  • She's also walking toward the bus, so yes, she's definitely leaving, whoever she is. If she isn't Nerissa, though, then Bigby will find out eventually and come for her to get the facts straight. DLC material, maybe. Or not.

  • My first thought is that the Faith we meet in Episode 1 is the real deal, and she can simply "take over" other people if dead.. but it takes time.. "through magic these lips are sealed" That phrase was linked to the ribbons placed on them, but as we all know, magic can work on DEAD people.Meaning she still had to be alive, and thus going through the process to take OVER "The Little Mermaid" She likes being in disquese so probably didnt say anything just to teach the fabletown police force a listen.. Pay attention and have ...
Faith.. I could go more into it, but that's my first theory..
