Yeah self esteem plays a major role on how shy you are. All my life I got both end of the sticks some girls said I'm cute others found me unattractive so I'm guessing for me it just based on pure preference. As for being shy I'm a bit depending what's the situation if I'm with friends I don't really care compared if I'm alone I get shy.
