Spooky ancient map

Alright, I've got that ancient map and I don't know where to go when I'm on the calendar. It's supposed to go north and there should be gate, but there's only a cottage with Voodoo Lady

    Walk around the calendar?
  • edited July 2009
    More specifically,
The calendar isn't the only thing on the map at that spot. Perhaps there's an indication of how you're supposed to do something involving it

I did but that didn't do anything. Maybe I'd doing something wrong.

Is this the first or second jungle quest?

There is an arrow going around the calendar on the map. Walk that way.

I'm stuck in the same place, I've done that a dozen times and nothing seems to happen. Was I supposed to do something at the wishing well first? The map seems to indicate something involving flowers but I couldn't get anything to happen at the well and I could find the calendar anyway so I just skipped that.

Still nothing. I suppose that I'm completely moron :/

I'm stuck at the calendar as well... I've done all the other steps (including putting the flowers in the well), but walking around the calendar doesn't do anything... and following the arrow around the calendar that's on the map (pointing right) just takes me back to the well.

You need to follow each of the instructions in order
Starting with using the map on the altar
There's a confirmation noise after you do each one.

Are you walking around the calendar in the correct direction? (Clockwise, iirc)

I don't hear any sound and I'm doing everything in order. Jeez put it on youtube or something ;)

Ooi, what did you do differently?
  • edited July 2009
    You have to
use the map on the altar first
  • edited July 2009
I followed the instructions on the altar, then got to the step we're talking about above, but it kept not working. I stopped, checked the map again, and tried it again and suddenly it worked. I'm not sure what I did differently. Specifically:
The calendar kept flashing red (and making monkey sounds), but when I started again after about a dozen rotations, it suddenly flashed a bunch of different colours at once and then, lastly, green. Do you have to start on a specific symbol?

Just keep walking around it (counter-clockwise) until it starts blinking, then use the wind-vane to determine where to leave the screen (should be up)

I did do that. But like I said, it was
blinking red, making no progress, and then suddenly it changed colour when I tried it again. Do you just have to walk around it 3 dozen times or something?

no just circle it once and move on

When you do it right, it goes to a cutscene does it not?
Took me quite a few runs around it to get it to work...

When you get it right, it will rumble.

Clearly I'm doing something wrong. I sacrifice the ancient map upon alter, walk the path, hear the tinkling of bells, reach the wishing well, hear the tinkle again. Then I sacrifice the nose/flower pot, ground shakes, I follow the path straight ahead to the calendar and...FAIL. I realize that I must walk counterclockwise around it, but I'm never given the chance. As soon as Guybrush enters the area he automatically walks straight to the calendar - I can't control him.

    What am I doing wrong?

He shouldn't automatically walk there, but eitherway, make sure you attempt to move him as soon as he's in view. Might be that it's just going there purely because you're not moving him before and it's a set position.

    As far as I remember,
the directions don't state to go straight to the calendar from the wishing well
    - I may be wrong though as my memory isn't that great for details like that.

You have to follow the exact path for it to be correct.

Or in fact, that. Theres three more steps before the calendar.

    1.
    Weathervane at the well
    2.
    Bee noise
    3.
    Weathervane

I'm stuck at these 3 steps. Are you supposed to hear a chime after doing step #1? Are you supposed to do step #1 before or after using the flower?

Basically, whenever I go north to follow the bee, he automatically walks to the calendar and it fails.

Once you've done from the altar --> well, (following the map steps ofc), you put the flowers in and then use the wind thing. It should take you to the path of the right, then you follow the bee sound, which I believe takes you BACK the way you came, and then you use the wind chimes again which will take you to the altar, don't go straight to the altar from the well.

I'm stuck at the same spot. I've read the spoilers, even, to see what I'm doing wrong. I've tried doing what it says, but it fails every time.

Thanks pad, I was able to figure it out. :)

    For those still having problems:
After using the weathervane, you have to walk to the screen in the direction that it points to.

    That's what I've done.
The weathervane points directly to the right, and I walk in that direction.
I don't hear the sound that I'm supposed to hear, based on what has been written above, so when I continue, I just end up getting sent back to the alter.

I think you can only use the weathervane after using the flower. I had to do it a few times to get it right, but if you don't hear the chimes as soon as you enter a screen, you've done something wrong in the order.

Finally! I see what I was doing wrong. I took one step too many on the path, and had to turn him back the other way quickly.

Hint look at map closely at all stages,
copy it step for step (BTW the wind symbol just means use the weather vane here to see what direction to go in In fack you can do this just by trail and error)
