Season 2 Episode 5 white screen...

Hey!
So, naturally, I am excited to play the finale of season 2! But, something keeps causing the game to crash.
Whenever I get to the part where (SPOILER) Clem persuades Jane to join the group by the fire, with rum, the game flickers to an all-white screen, and then stays on the white screen after a few flickers. The audio and story keep progressing- I just can't see anything, or respond to my choices. When I press ESC with the white screen, the game crashes... I have tried all of the suggestions posted for the other guy with problems, but I'm sure our problems are different and I'm getting tired of replaying through this one chapter of the episode to the same point over and over again. Also, the game fails to start in compatibility mode for Windows 98... maybe something I did wrong, but I doubt it. The game glitches and flickers to white at different times, sometimes, just always around the Jane/Clem/Rum scene, like a little bit before Jane takes a swig usually. I had this issue before on other episodes, when they were first released, but I think what fixed them was an update or something. Anyway, I thought maybe reporting this issue might get it resolved sooner than waiting for it to be resolved on its own or through a random update.
Thanks for reading this! Hope it gets fixed soon.

Hi, i just did according to the Sticky... I got the same crash as his and exactly at the same part (asking Jane to rejoin the group). Thanks!

  • There seems to be a problem with the support tool... I run the tool, but nothing happens, besides the black console window appearing for a fraction of a second, then disappearing. Then, checking with Task Manager, I could not find any processes running that matched or looked even close to matching the support tool... No explorer window opened up to the data. Due to this, I cannot provide the information or data you requested. I have tried running the support tool in many ways, including with admin privileges, compatibility mode of various versions, and making a batch file run it. I even added "pause" to the end of the file, so the console window didn't close, and got no information from the window.
I don't suppose there is a support tool for the support tool? Or, could you provide me with the file location of wherever the data generated is supposed to be, on the off-chance that it DID work and the explorer window just didn't open?
At any rate, I will periodically retry both TWD Season 2 Episode 5 and TWD Support tool until one or both of them work. Thank you for your suggestions!
    ~Chris

  • Same problem here, always at that point. I have checked all my drivers, they are all up to date. I have tried adjusting my settings every which way I can manage, even changing my graphics properties. Nothing fixed it.

  • I've got the same problem too. Always at the Clem/Jane scene too.

After looking over your Support Tool information, it seems that your computer is running below the minimum system requirements to run the game successfully. Where we require a minimum of 512mb of dedicated memory, your computer is currently running at 128mb of dedicated memory. Your computer uses an integrated Intel graphics card, which we do not recommend using for our game, as they tend to run under minimum specs. I recommend either trying to update your current graphics card's drivers to the latest version, and see if you are able to play, or try playing the game on a computer above minimum system requirements if you have the ability to.

You can also try changing the game's resolution and graphics settings to a lower setting, and then continue the episode, and see if your issue is resolved.

If you have already tried lowering the game's resolution, and graphics settings to a lower setting, please also try switching the game to Windowed Mode using the shortcut (Alt+Enter for PC, Command+F for Mac) and see if you are then able to see the game correctly.

  • Trying windowed mode as well as lower graphics settings did not solve the issue... I think it's more than just "not seeing the game correctly" as the program stops 'responding' (crashes) when ESC is pressed to pause the game (during the white screen)
I played it through several more times, reset my graphics settings to the highest again, and played through 2 more times... on the second time, the game did not white-screen on me, despite me not changing anything from the last attempt...
I was able to play through the rest of the episode with no more White Screen glitches, EXCEPT- SPOILER on the ending with Jane, if I let the three strangers join Clem and Jane, the white screen happened... I simply played through and instead did not let them join- the white screen did not happen with the choice of refusing the strangers...
Anyway- I loved the game! Thanks for the help, this is a strange glitch...

Well thank you for your excellent service! I love The Walking Dead (specifically, Telltale Games' The Walking Dead)
The gameplay is genius, the storyline(s!) are unrivaled, the voice acting: perfect, the music: superb!! Cannot wait for Season 3...
(And I wouldn't say no to a new Season 2 Clementine avatar for this site)

  • This is still a problem for me. I don't know what to do now.

  • Ok, I did what The_Fizz did, turned all my setting to maximum and on the second try of that, without changing anything in between, it worked. There is the fix as far as I am concerned. And when I say maximum, I mean everything I could dig up with the word graphics in it had every setting turned to maximum quality.

  • I just wanted to add that I had the same problem during episode 5, during the scene at night with the bonfire. I would get either a white screen or have a complete crash every time. I did what Mike suggested, changed my resolution to 1600x900 and put the settings on max, and it worked like a charm. The game ran much smoother as well. Hell of an ending, dammit telltale.

Unfortunately it appears that your computer is also running below the minimum system requirements to run the game successfully.
