Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 4 White Screen

Hi, I posted this in the wrong section so hopefully I will get more assistance here.

There is a scene when you are walking through a forest (Dont want to spoil anything by being too specific) early in the game without the pregnant woman and at 3 separate times during this scene I get a white screen but the game is still running as I can hear the speech. I can't find anything relating to a white screen so I'm pretty frustrated. Thanks.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please try switching the game to Windowed Mode using the Windows shortcut (Alt+Enter) and you should then be able to see the game screen. You can then try changing the game's resolution and/or graphics settings to a lower setting, then switch the game back to Full Screen mode, and you should not see this happen again. Again, my apologies for any difficulties this has caused you.

  • Thank you! It works fine now.

Same thing happens to me but a couple of minutes further into the episode. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game and that's done nothing to help. (I'm also on PC and have never had issues previously)

After looking over your support tool information, your computer's graphics card looks to be running below the minimum system requirements to run the game. Where we require a minimum of 512mb of dedicated memory, your computer's graphics card is running at 64mb. I recommend updating the graphics card's drivers to the latest version, and then restart the game, and see if you are then able to play without this issue occurring.

You can also try going to the Options Menu inside the game, and change both the game's resolution, and graphics settings to a lower setting. Then continue the game, and see if the issue is resolved.

I managed to fix the problem for the 4th episode, by disabling steam in the background, but now it's happening for episode 5!
I've updated the graphics card, and the game settings were always low. The problem still happens :(

Same here. Whenever I talk to (SPOILER) or Kenny when they stray from the campfire, the screen goes to white. Please help?

  • Same for me, in the same place. I don't have access to my home computer right now, so I'll post the log from the support tool later if it's necessary for you guys to fix it.

For those of you experiencing the issue, can you please clarify if lowering the game's resolution and graphics settings to a lower setting, then clicking Apply, resolves your issue?

  • I lowered all the settings I could, closed every program in the background of course, updated the drivers, and disabled the Steam overlay just in case. When I did, the game did advance a little more, just a couple minutes, but then the screen went white again. I guess there's something going on with the graphics in that scene that our graphic cards just can't manage.

I am talking about a low-end computer with integrated graphics here, so it's hardly surprising, but I was able to play the season until now and the full TWAU with no problems, and I would love to finish what I started, without having to wait until I can buy a new computer first :)

For those of you experiencing the issue, can you please clarify if lowering the game's resolution and graphics settings to a lower setting, then clicking Apply, resolves your issue?

  • i lowered my graphics setting and turned off anti-aliasing and I was able to continue on in the story. I didn't touch the resolution, however.

  • Same thing is happening for me in episode 5. While I'm speaking with a certain character the screen goes white and I can hear all the dialogue but when I press ESC or try to Alt+Enter to exit full screen the whole client crashes. Other than that I've never had any issues with either Season 1 or 2 up until the final episode and it's killing me. Any idea on what else I can try?

  • I did everything listed above by Sezhed including lowering the resolution.
I've also been able to play the whole series without issue on my computer so ?
My computer is alright, it runs games like The Sims 3 just fine, it's only a year old, too.

My apologies, I recommend restarting your computer, and once the computer finishes booting, only start The Walking Dead: Season Two, and continue from the last chapter, and see if you are then able to complete that part of the episode.

  • Same problem in here. As soon as I leave campfire to go talk to characters it goes to white screen.

Im running this on an integrated graphics card, but I know it is capable of running the game because I played the whole series in this laptop.

  • Experiencing the same issues myself.

I've encountered the white screen at multiple points - upon game launch and loading, at the main menu itself, loading screen of new game, and within EP1 in the forest.

System is plenty capable of running the game - 1920x1080, High settings.

  • I've lowered both the resolution and graphic settings before I get to the point where the screens goes white. I've tried keeping the resolution and graphic settings low and trying it again in windowed mode too. If I try anything after the screen goes blank the game just crashes.

Can you please clarify if you have tried lowering the game's resolution and graphics settings to a lower setting, then clicking Apply, and see if you are able to continue the episode?

I am having the exact same problem as Eben. In chapter 5 during the conversation with Jane at the campfire. I have tried alt-enter, I have tried adjusting the video settings. I have tried talking to kenny first and jane first. I have tried 8 times now and it keeps happening within the same 20 second area of conversation.

Also, I tried again today after a full reboot. And this time when it happened I got an error message saying my "video driver has stopped responding and recovered"

If it helps, I have been able to run the entire 1st season game, and the entire 2nd season up to this point with absolutely no issues on highest graphics.

  • Well, for anyone having this issue, i managed to fix it, but I did several things, so I'm not sure which one of them are the correct, anyway, you should try all.

I closed steam in background, lowered resolution and graphics. When the part of the white screen is suppose to happen it doesn't happen anymore, so if you do all of these steps it should work just fine withou glitching or having the white screen.

After I passed the part where the white screen was supposed to show, I changed the settings back to normal, and managed to finish the game without any more white screens.

  • I just tried that, it didn't work. It actually crashed sooner than usual.

My apologies, I recommend restarting your computer, and once the computer finishes booting, only start The Walking Dead: Season Two, and continue from the last chapter, and see if you are then able to complete that part of the episode.

@PaganiBR Thank you for posting the way you were able to resolve your issue.

  • So are we going to get any other help here? I think only one person actually had their problem solved :( It's been over a week since we posted. I just want to know if there's anything else I can try, because there's no reason why TWD shouldn't work on my computer.

  • TelltaleMikeTelltaleMike Former Telltale Staff

I apologize, you can also try running the game in a Compatibility Mode (We recommend Windows 98/ME) and see if you are able to play the Episode that way.

    Okay I'll try that...
Come on, this thread has been running for like a month, why are there no more solutions?

I apologize, you can also try running the game in a Compatibility Mode (We recommend Windows 98/ME) and see if you are able to play the Episode that way.

  • Okay, I tried compatibility mode. Didn't work. What else you got?

My apologies, unfortunately I am out of potential solutions to resolve your issue. Your computer is using an Intel integrated graphics card, and as stated on the Steam Store page, it is not recommended to use Intel integrated graphics cards to run the game. I recommend try playing the game on a computer above the minimum system requirements, or if you do not have the option, contacting Steam Support and see if they have any other suggestions.
