Freezing during Season One recap (Macintosh)

Summary of the problem: I am attempting to play Season Two on a Macintosh (OS version 10.8.2) through Steam. The main menu works, but when I try to play, the program consistently freezes during the introductory recap of Season One, Episode One. The music continues to play, but the image freezes, and there is no indication that anything else is being loaded.

Additional info:
I waited to play until all five episodes were released, so I have no save data previous to this, other than the Season One data. I have tried both the Season One save file and the "play without save" option.
I have tried deleting local files and reinstalling the game.
I have tried turning off the Steam overlay, running in Offline Mode, and even unplugging the Ethernet cable.
I have tried turning off high texture quality and antialiasing. I have tried both my monitor's native resolution (1280x1024) and the default 800x600. I have tried running both windowed and full-screen. On full-screen, the game not only freezes but brings down my whole system with a kernel panic.
