Im Atheist because I dont believe in a God...Not really a sad story I just studied the Bible and felt like it didnt really prove anything, but I cant absolutely disprove it and thats why im an Agnostic too.

    What religion are you?

I'm not sure how to answer that to be honest. I just never took the concept of God and religion (particularly Christianity, because my parents are Christian) seriously. Like I never actually sat down to contemplate why we exist, what are reasons and purposes are for living, or if we even have or need a purpose. Put bluntly, I just don't care whether there exists a god or not. I mainly hold a lack of belief in some higher power because there isn't any proof or evidence to convince me that some entity made this universe just because. However, this does not mean I know for sure that a god doesn't exist. If events or inexplicable phenomenons present itself in some form that lead me to believe that there is some form of higher power beyond the universe then I will simply acknowledge its presence, but probably not necessarily follow or pray to it. The problem with that idea though is that I'm not sure what event has to happen or how surreal it has to be enough to convince me.

Like you, everyone of my close friends from high school and college are either agnostic, atheists, or both. This has all happened by accident as well. I hope my reasoning isn't sloppy and makes sense.

I believe in The Power Of Saltlicks :) (Realistically I am a protestant but I'm starting to question if I actually believe in a God or not now and I'm unsure about an "afterlife" too now.., idk might just be a phase..)

  • So I guess you would just be Agnostic.

Damn alot of atheist here. Not saying there is anything wrong with it just surprising is all. Personally, I don't know what I am. I wouldn't consider myself atheist as I do believe in some sort of afterlife and some sort of higher power/existence, but i'm not sure I believe in God. I want to, but i just can't convince myself.

  • I am part Gavinist...Jk but hey if you want to call yourself an Agnostic Protestant.

If anyone doesnt know what Agnosticism is its the process in which you can nor can not be sure there is a deity.
So you can be your religion and Agnostic because its a state of mind along side your religion.

  • I'm a deist, which basically means I believe in a supreme being but do not accept any particular religion as a higher authority. I'm confident something created the universe and hold firm in the conviction that people shouldn't worry about following any particular teachings or rules... They should just do their best to help others and always try to do the best thing, regardless of what it may be. Life's too short for us all to be constantly concerned about what comes after death.

  • Can't say that I have a personal belief on how I think the universe was created, sorry. I'd probably like to develop my own theory more or less in the future though. I would like to know what your theory is if you don't mind.

What are your beliefs in the creation of the universe, I personally think I have a good theory.

  • Well, I used to be a Christian and went to church, but, got disillusioned with hypocritical Christians and the way they treated me, also the fact that a lot of them don't accept people who lifestyles are different and act the complete opposite of what Jesus would do.

I've always struggled about whether God exists or not, and with doubt, so, I'm pretty much an agnostic now.

  • Well I have no problem telling you so here...

I believe that there was something before our universe, another one right here. I think that the universe before expanded into space before it reached a certain limit. If we go by that whole rule matter is not created nor destroyed then when it stopped expanding it ran out of matter. Where was it getting this matter? It was storing it in the center of the universe, once it reached its limit, it simply used blackholes to absorb and deconstruct the matter into the simplest form and move it back to the center. Once there it is kept till all matter is returned. After that whole process it is extremely dense, where it then explodes flinging matter out letting it develop and expand again, that was The Big Bang. So basically the universe is on a life cycle of its own and are on it till it starts again or till we die out.

Kind of makes our life feel meaningless, well there you go, my theory.

I was raised a Baptist Christian but now I consider myself a non denominational Christian who simply has Jesus Christ in her heart and just tries to be a good person. It breaks my heart to see how some people on here were treated by Christians, it's what gives a lot of us a bad name. I just do my best to treat everyone nice and let that be an example of what a Christian who tries to be friends with everyone despite their beliefs/choices are or were can be the nonjudgmental asshole they think we are. I've definitely had my ups and downs with my beliefs, and for a while I really questioned it all. But I am far more confident in my beliefs now than I've ever been. But I think it's perfectly natural for everyone to have their doubts. My personal opinion is that God gave us free will for that very reason, so we could seek the answers instead of mindlessly following whatever he laid out before us.

    And hate comments go!

(Also I know every religion or group or belief system comes under fire, Christians are not a special exception to that rule, and I don't think we deserve special treatment. Just stating how I feel.)

Okay now I'm bracing myself for the hate.

I dunno about everyone else here, but, I find religion and idealogies to be interesting topics to talk about. Its amazing how everyone is so different and hold to all sorts of beliefs.
I just wish there wasn't so much bigotry and intolerance, one of the reasons why people tend to steer clear of such discussions as these. :(

  • I see. Yeah, I just try not to think about it, I'm 23 and almost done with college. Even though I consider myself an atheist, I do enjoy reading the origins and philosophies of various religions; particularly Hinduism, Buddhism, and Shintoism. Something about them just captivate me. :D

  • I respect your beliefs, hell I wish I met more Christians or just people like you in life. We need good people in this world who do good things, doesnt matter what race, gender, sexuality, or beliefs they are/ have.

  • It's scary to share those opinions. In public or on the internet, it doesn't matter how I word it people will always get mad. To be honest, I've had friends who were fellow 'christians' call me out and say I'm a bad person or 'christian' because of various reasons. So I totally understand why some people are turned away from religious people/labels.

Thank you Kiwi, it's never easy to talk about our religon/spirituality, no matter what one believes. :/

  • I have read of people wanting to bring the religions of the world together in unity. I think that's a fantastic thing to want to do, but, with all the wars, hatred, and so on, I feel that that may never been achieved. What do you all think?

  • Sadly there will always be people like the Westboro Baptist church who ruin that unity. :/

  • Yes true. That church makes me sick.

  • Thank you so much for your kind comment. :)

They're rare, I will admit that. I have been very lucky to meet all sorts of Christians, and see which kind I don't want to be and which kind to look up to. I have a very close group of friends whom have helped me through my own religious/spiritual crisis who didn't judge me, or cast me aside for my questioning moments.

  • Honestly, every religion has it's different sects, not just Christianity. I read a story the other day about a Islamic man fighting in Iraq who had his whole squad murdered by a differing sect of Islamic persons. With the same religion, they were killing each other. Sadly, this is just the way with religion.

But I understand what you're saying.

Sadly there will always be people like the Westboro Baptist church who ruin that unity.

  • I remember when I was at Bible College and I studied the various religions. I loved it! I'm glad I did that. It was fascinating. In fact, I might do it again some time.

  • Yes, Islam has a few sects, like Shi'ite and Sunni. They fight each other a lot because of their slightly different versions of Islam. Very sad. :(

  • Oh im sorry if you thought I was saying Christianity was the cause for problems, I was just using an example of a religious hate group.

I believe in some force or creator behind it all. The probability of earth is to great not to believe in an outside force. Men living for 900+ years and the earth and humans being formed in 7 days sounds iffy though. Maybe religion is just poetic but its not really my cup of tea.
