Machine in Deep Gut's House

Since I beat the game without doing anything with it (aside from random button pushing), I'm assuming it's not important. But does anyone know why Guybrush looks all shadey when he presses buttons on it? Is this a joke I'm not getting?

You didn't figure out the machine puzzle?! God, dude, you passed by like half the game!

If you can't figure it out on your own, here's a hint.
Naa, man. I'm kidding. It doesn't do anything.

A machine for a future chapter?

Most probably. Guybrush himself did proclaim that the chest in Deep Gut's house is meant for later chapters, so it won't be surprising that the machine will be used.

Other possible items to be used later in Deep Gut's house:
hand lotion; diorama; voodoo (doubt so); scarriest cupboard (doubt so); freezer (doubt so); and the dribbly candle

Wonder will there be more outrageous titles on the bookshelf next time as well...

Who knows? Maybe we'll have to put a hamster in it for a little bit.

    I love you.

I thought I was the ONLY one who got that reference.

First we'd have to dry a sweater with a million quaters to make him warm and snug

The hand lotion is just a throwback to CoMI, so i doubt that will come in useful.

No.. don't.. No, don't make me replay DoTT. Gah. Have to now :(

It didn't even occur to me to try some stuff on the machine, pretty much like how
you get sucked into De Singe's lab even though you might not want to yet. I basically knew that I was going to get stuck in that lab. Yet I had not foreseen that knocking on the door would start the entire sequence. That was my 'Nono.. NO! I'm not done here yet'-moment, not knowing when the chapter would end.

Isn't the machine a little like the one in the theater in CoMI? At least i thought so.
