There are a million hackers. There are script kiddies ddosing sites so it would be too fucked up from all the traffic... They do it to steam all the time. This is something you face the 2nd you get internet. What you just described is actually a very old method.
The hacker can steal your credit card information too. He sends out links with his spambot accounts and if you click it GAME OVER he gets all your information. Seriously guys beware!
