Oh man fuck yea! So on my hardcore playthrough of New Vegas I survived Dead Money (holy shit that was hard) and let me tell you when you get to that point you feel like a damn god. So back in the vanilla game I decide to pay Ceaser a visit. I was tired of dealing with his assassins so I just started killing everyone. Put on a disguise so the boat guy would let me go to the camp then continued to kill everyone. My character already hated the legion for how they punish people on the cross and take women as slaves. When I saw those slaves I snapped and just went to town.

Not shown all the other dead legionaries bodies. It was not easy but I managed to kill everyone there. Meanwhile the pussy NCR cant handle a few of them at the damn? LOL I will take great pleasure in wiping them out with Yes Man!

Get the Ultimate edition with all the DLC. Honest Hearts isn't very good but the others are. You haven't lived until you've laughed your way through Old World Blues. You may love or hate Dead Money depending on what kind of challenge you want but I personally loved it since it was a change of pace. I haven't played Lonesome Road yet (thats next up).
Also you can change difficulty at any time you can turn Hardcore on and off at any time so I would suggest trying it out and if you don't like it you can go to normal mode. Basically ammo has weight and you have to eat and drink to survive. Also followers can actually die in Hardcore mode.
Oh and one more thing. I highly recommend one mod. Of course I'm assuming PC version here but I have learned that games using the Gamebryo engine (Fallouts and Elder Scrolls series) are practically unplayable on consoles. Like I tried New Vegas on PS3 and it was garbage. So trust me when I highly suggest the PC version. So the mod is http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/40040/? project Nevada. A sort of rehaul on some of the mechanics to make things better. It gives more options such as how Hardcore mode is like. For example you can make hunger and thirst happen faster or slower. It also lets you use slow motion instead of VATs and it has body enhancements that make your character better (installing those cost a ton though) It requires the New Vegas Script Extender to work but thats very easy to use http://nvse.silverlock.org/ just put the files in the install directory and always start the game up using the NVSE shortcut instead of the usual games shortcut.
Oh and say goodbye to your social life if you have one lol.
