Xbox 360 disc version freezes and lags
Greetings. I've recently purchased The Wolf Among Us for the Xbox 360 (the disc version, it's not the xbox live bazaar download), and i cannot play beyond the encounter with the woodman, right at the start of chapter 1. I seem unable to pick any choice, or react to the events, as the game freezes and lags so much that i end up dead each time.
Seeing as it has been recommended on other threads, i've already cleared up the cache, but it changes absolutely nothing. As well, i've tried to install the game into the hard drive, but for some reason there is no option to do that.
Can we expect a patch to fix these problems, or anything at all?
Thanks, best regards.

Thread: XBOX 360 Disc Version is completely broken!
I created this account just to write here, i bought the disc version 4 days ago, stuck it in and it froze before the menu, tried again and i got to the menu and clicked play. The open cutscene in the taxi was sooooo laggy, talking to toad was laggy, but then the fight with the woodsman is impossible because the lag makes it skip whole segments of the fight before i can even push a button, so i returned it and got another copy yesterday and this ones even worse!!!! More lag/frame-rate drop and i can hear that i get killed by the woodsman before the loading screen is even gone! So it saves that as a checkpoint and now every time it loads (if it loads) there is no sound, no textures and i still have lag and get killed, even the menu has lag. And ive tried it loads and 9/10 it freezes before the bloody menu. And yes ive cleared my xbox system cache and tried it offline and restarted my xbox and i have 36 gb free on a 250gb hard drive. What do i do? I want to play this game! Why is such a simplistic game having trouble running? Thanks
I've been getting the same problems. I tried everything and I really wanna play the game
Hopefully they reply to this cause its clearly not just me when i read fourms. If not im returning on saturday.
My apologies, unfortunately it appears that you have tried all of my potential solutions to resolve the issue. Can you please clarify if the game performs any differently when disconnected from the internet?
The game has zero improvement disconnected from the internet, why is this happening? This is my second copy
I play offline only and all your solutions didn't help.
Come on guys, make us a christmas present and patch this thing!
Ive already returned mine, never buying a game from them again, digital or on disk. What a joke
My apologies for the delayed response. We have reproduced the issue, and are currently looking into the root cause. Unfortunately at this time I do not have an update on the issue, but hope to have more information soon.
Really need an update on this issue. I know it is the holidays, but it makes the game truly unplayable. Working in a 360 Slim (Black Console) 18 months old with a 250 GB HDD installed with 221 GB free. Game started that way immediately, same issue online or offline.
Thread: Xbox 360 PAL disc crashes after storage selection
I really didn't want to make another discussion about this problem but in the end I felt as though it may benefit those with bugged retail discs to show they are not alone! Also I hope this will be fixed soon as I loved the first episode, played on my iPhone, and to be honest I'd rather not return it, I would rather just play it! I have tried all the things that telltale mike seems to suggest, but the game simply crashes after I select storage. Real shame.
The same here I bought one for Christmas and I had to return it and get a new copy. The second one didn't work. However I went to settings on the Xbox 360 thinking that it was a problem with the screen resolution and changed it to 720p which matches my tv and restarted the console. After a few tries it worked. I hope it works for you guys while they send an update or patch. Happy holidays
@WallyWest and @richardo55 If you are still experiencing the issue, please try Clearing your System's Cache then restart the game, and see if the issue is resolved.
i have been waiting for this game for months finally got it for xmas and now i cant even play because of lag and what not im really dissapointed
Can you please clarify which model Xbox 360 you are currently using, how large the hard drive is, and if you have at least 10% space left on the hard drive?
Please try Clearing your System's Cache then restart the game, and see if the issue is then resolved.
It's the 360 "Slim" versión, with a Valhalla motherboard, 250GB Hard Drive. And there is over 120GB of free space.
Thank you for providing the extra information. Unfortunately it appears that you have already tried all of my potential solutions to resolve your issue. We are currently looking into the issue, and hope to have more information soon. We have heard that deleting any The Wolf Among Us files created in your Storage Device, and starting a new game, reduces the amount of hitching/lagging in the game. I recommend trying this as well.
I'm having the same issues. I've tried clearing the cache and playing offline. The game is completely unplayable. I emailed Telltale customer support and nobody responded. I can't even put into words how disappointed I am.
Looks like youll all just have to return it before the store wont take it back guys! No point keeping a broken game!
I tried deleting those files, and i can perceive no change at all.
This is quite disappointing. Can we expect a patch for this?
The team is currently looking into the root cause of the issue, and hopes to have more information on the subject soon.
Telltale - what's the deal here? Your company has not replied to my support messages and has not posted any solution or offered any kind of compensation to customers who purchased this game. Is your company just going to ignore the issue?
IMO, Telltale should bite the bullet, apologize to your customers, and do the right thing. The vague update posts and ignoring of support requests is a pretty bad way to handle a serious issue with your product.
I also found the 360 version of this game unplayable. So much lag. Sometimes this just made for unpleasant viewing, other times it made reaction times impossible to meet. I struggled through the first episode and enjoyed the story, animation and voice acting enough that I bought it on another platform on which it worked, basically paying for the game twice. I was very disappointed to find that telltale had released the game in such a state (a quick internet search suggestion that this was the norm for this release rather than an exception).
It's a joke? TWAU is a broken game. Update please on Xbox 360
I have the same problem ! please an update; I've purchased The Wolf Among Us for the Xbox 360.
It's the 360 "Slim" version, 250GB Hard Drive. And there is over 150GB of free space
so what is new, any new information on how to fix this lag issue, I bought this game, im not online (small town middle of nowhere dial up) and im not sure if there was a patch or anything i could do? it wont play its laggy, i have tried everything suggested on this board, and responses pretty much seem to be robotic regarding this issue, i have a 210 hd andi have nothing else saved on it, i have also formated it this hd since i got the game and nothing, nothing else saved just 210 gb of space, it new! what can i do?
Just FYI for anyone on this thread. If you really want to push for a solution to this problem and are frustrated by Telltale's refusal to address us as paying customers, a good way to go is filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. It only takes a few minutes to do and may help push them to make this right for all of the people who bought this game and have been left holding the bag.

Anything is worth trying at this point, since Telltale isn't willing to answer support requests on this subject.

I'm so disappointed that a 360 disc-based game with such high production values would be released with technical problems this serious, especially when the downloadable episodes seemed much more stable. The action sequences are virtually unplayable due to the hitching in the animation, the load screens freeze randomly, and the audio for episode recaps continue playing while I'm looking at a black screen. The disc based Walking Dead ssn 1 didn't have these issues, so what happened Telltale? Are Playstation 3 owners experiencing the same problems?
I cant even start the game because it always freezes on a black screen for hours. this is the 3rd disc I bought. 2 from a store and 1 from online. it doesn't even matter if I'm connected to the internet.
Thread: XBOX 360 Disc Gameplay Lagging
I recently purchased the Disc version of the game for my New 500 GB XBOX 360. The console has no issues playing other games. The Cache is clear. The game video and game play lags. From minor lags/skips in video to major lags that makes selecting a choice or participating in fight sequences nearly impossible. I have seen similar issues reported. I expect a fix, update, or patch to be available or I would like a free down load of the digital version because this is total B.S. I do not want some sorry apology I want to be able to play the game I purchased. The disc is not damaged in anyway, the 360 is new and works perfectly on everything else. This is not acceptable. I love the Walking Dead Games and honestly the 7th Guest is one of my favorite all time games from when I was a child. I love the products the company puts out but am disappointed by what seems to be a lack of concern regarding a resolution to this lag issue.
My apologies, if you have tried Clearing your System's Cache and are still experiencing the issues, please also try rewinding and restarting a chapter/checkpoint before the hitching started, and see if the hitching/lagging/framerate issues are lessened in size.
Are there any news regarding this issue?
Would it be THAT hard to provide codes to download the game from those customers that can prove a purchase of this game? Because, really, if there is ETA for a patch, that would be a good move. You know, keep customers happy. Those that pay for the games that you make. Hint.
Is this answer supposed to be helpful or taken seriously? You see all the comments about the issue here. There is never a point where the game does not lag. So obviously there is no spot in the game to go back to. It is very clearly not a file issue or save game issue it is an issue with the Game Discs that your company has put out that does not work properly. As Jalbar has said, rectify the situation by giving download codes for the game or create a patch to fix this. Stop giving these BS responses or try to make it sound like a different Tech issue. I have worked Video games, Electronics, Computers, IT support for years and this is not one of those issues you can attempt to pass off with a lame explanation. This is not an id10t error, so stop treating your customers like idiots and rectify the situation.
In addition to the lag, the dialog options in my confrontation with the Crooked Man in ep 5 switched to Spanish, with no options in the menu to switch back to English. What a joke.
At this point, I think it's pretty safe to say that Telltale has decided that fixing the game would cost more than it's worth. Anyone who's posted here should just consider themselves taken for however much money they spent on the game. My best suggestion would be to take whatever steps you can to make sure Telltale pays for this in some way. Write reviews on retails sites warning other people from buying this game. Contact the Better Business Bureau. Contact the office of Consumer Protection in your state and in CA (home of Telltale). Do anything that you think might help force them to resolve an issue that they have no interest in solving.
This really has been an eye opening experience for me, that's for sure. I've bought pretty much everything Telltale has ever published. I've been one of their biggest fans. This process has completely turned me against them. Look out EA! Telltale is quickly closing in on you for worst publisher out there.
Thread: Telltale Ignoring its Customers
Its obvious the company had no interest in resolving any of the issue brought forward to them regarding the Disc Version of the Wolf Among Us freezing/lagging during gameplay. They only want to ask a stupid spec question and then say have you tried starting a new saved game or clearing your cache? When obviously they know this does not work and they have no idea what to do to fix the issue. Telltale put out a crappy product and does not seem to care about its customers one bit. Release a patch or give customers a digital download code to replace the non functional disc. Prove Me wrong Telltale... I dare you.
Still waiting for an update on this issue. So far, i'm not paying for another telltalegames game unless some **real **support is shown.
