Movies You're Supposed to Love but Don't

edited December 2014 in General Chat

I'm watching WatchMojo's Best Sci-fi series, and one thing that came up as the best sci-fi films on the 90's is Dark City. Honestly, I didn't really like Dark City, but the thing is it's the kind of film that is right up my alley. I felt the same way on the 70's with Silent Running, Logan's Run, and even Soylent Green. There all the kind of movies that are the type I love, but for some reason they didn't appeal to me.

Among the film-buff's here, who else has had that sort of experience? Where everywhere you look says that you're supposed to love a particular movie (not because of popularity, but because it fits perfectly with your tastes), but you don't.

Edit: What I mean was, I'm not asking popular or famous movies you didn't like (though feel free to post those), but movies that supposedly match your tastes, like ones you find on recommendation sites, but that didn't do it for you.

Lord of the Rings. I'm a huge fantasy fan, but they just don't interest me at all.

  • The Godfather. I'm pretty sure Peter Griffin and I are the only two people who don't like it. And he has the excuse of being fictional.

  • I don't care about The Godfather that much.

  • I'm with you....

The Godfather. I'm pretty sure Peter Griffin and I are the only two people who don't like it. And he has the excuse of being fictional.

  • Godfather Part 2 is much better.

  • "The Last Airbender" by M. Night Shyamalan. I'm a fan of original "Avatar: The Last Airbender", but the insulting piece of film industry's shit I mentioned earlier is a living insult to it. This movie is too bad, that's a statement with which even people unfamiliar with the franchise could agree.

  • I'll never tell you the reason! MUAHAHAHAHAH!!!

In all honesty, I just don't like it. There's no real reason. But the massive overhype is also a factor, I tend to find out many hyped things actually suck.

  • If you hate that movie you'll love this excerpt from a review about it.

and thought i like Jaws , i also find it kinda boring at times and not scary at all, even as a little kid.

  • Well, since I liked the original series of "Avatar: The Last Airbender", I was supposed to like this silly joke of a movie, but I didn't. If everyone hated it, well, good for them.

So, yeah, it does qualify, after all.

  • The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

I love Westerns. True Grit, Once Upon a Time in the West, Unforgiven, those are some of my favorite movies of all time, but this one just fell kinda flat to me. There were some great scenes, and the soundtrack was unforgettable, but the majority of the movie dragged by and went on for too long. I could only watch the extended cut on Netflix that had, like, an hour of extra scenes or something, so maybe that was why, but unfortunately I wasn't impressed with most of the movie.

  • I hate LOTR, the last one i saw was return of the King, and slept right through it like a baby.

I saw the remake True Grit.

    I hated it.

Ever watch the original Gun smoke like black and white. For a television show in the 50s it was pretty good.

    Star Wars

  • I thought that the True Grit remake was decent, if not quite up to par with the original, John Wayne version.

  • Sadly, Hobbit.

  • The Hobbit, Green Lantern, Total Recall (remake), Conan the Barbarian (remake), Star Wars (Phantom, Clone, Sith), Hunger Games, Frozen, and Dark City.

  • Hunger Games, Harry Potter (most definitely Harry Potter), and the recent Spiderman movies that weren't necessary to make in the first place.

If I'm allowed to say a TV series, I'd say Game of Thrones, I just can't get into it... In the other hand, I played Telltale's GOT demo and I liked it, I'll probably buy it. :)

P.S: I don't like Breaking Bad either. * prepares to be slaughtered *

  • I'm surprised nobody mentioned Titanic. Oh,well...there's a first time for everything. Other examples would be: The Avengers,James Bond,Rocky and the Spider-Man reboot. I could go on, but that would be unnecessary.
