Fables 146: I am losing ALL hope now...

I read 146 today and what I read broke my heart and twisted my hope into something horrible.

  • Bigby is declared an enemy that needs to be put down, Mayor Cole, Rose and the Witches all concur, Snow doesn't even TRY and argue for him.
  • Rose assumes that Snow is attratced to Bigby simply because he's the best she's ever had in bed and not because there is genuine love between them.
  • Grimble is up to something and we have no idea what it is
  • The Last Story will involve a few Fables and hints at Sinbad's demise through Prince Charming

How am I supposed to assume that everything will turn out ok in just 4 more issues, there is SO MUCH that Willingham has to get through that I'm afraid he will end up rushing everything and the ending will be terrible.

Bigby and Snow will be seperated cuz everyone wants him dead and he'll sleep with Rose...

What the hell am I supposed to think now!?

  • Willingham has certainly gone George R R Martin on his characters and story with his brutality.

  • well Issue 150 is 150 pages long. So Im sure the other 3 will just be set up. I also Predict that Issue 150 will contain the last story of Bigby Wolf ;-;

  • Gosh, that's one hell of a long issue. I hope everything will be given a resolution.

  • Whoa there mate!

Let's not jump into conclusions just yet. Remember, like Poogers555 said, #150 is 150pgs long. And that's even longer than the Unwritten/Fables crossover volume, and is around about the same length as the Cinderella volumes (more like Fables are Forever volume) or Werewolves of Heartland. I'm sure that would be enough space for Mr. Willingham to give the characters the proper sendoff.

  • I'd guess Bigby's last story will be told in the main story itself? Probably same will apply to Snow and Red, and Cinderella (since her last story at #145 was only Part 1 of her Last story, and Part 2 being continued on main storyline).

Not sure about the cubs though. They may get separate "Last story" like other characters (Flycatcher, Charming, etc) - though it would need to be longer than other characters since there are 7 of them (yes, even counting Dare who is dead, as well as Ghost)

  • I ment like the last Story of Bigby Wolf would kind of be the ending to fables. Showing what happens to him after the events. I hope he doesnt do what he did with Bufkin with everyone happy then. Ayy He's dead now !

Yeah, Bigby and Snow are the main characters to this series, so it makes sense his Last story would be ending to the Fables (since, like he'll be outliving pretty much everyone if the prophesy turns out to be true lol)

I don't expect everyone to end up happy (because that doesn't sound plausible at all), but I'm glad Mr. Willingham said we won't be getting the ending where pretty much everyone ends up dying, like in Jack of Fables, (the whole shameless Shakespearean ending lol).

But personally, I do wish Bigby and Snow would get a happy ending.....They deserve it so, after everything they went through.

  • I think the ending will be happy. I really dont think he wants to end it on a downer

  • But seriously though! How in the name of everything holy is Willingham going to give BIGBY a happy ending? There is soo much he has done now that is unredeemable...

  • I am a complete newb to anything that isnt the game itself. I dont want to make a new thread.

    1. Does the game follow a comic story that already existed? Or is it a new story all together?
    2. Why are the Fables living in New York at all? Why did they leave there original lives?
  • (1): The game is pretty much a prequel to the first issue of the comics. It's set about 10 to 20 years before the first issue. By all accounts, the game is considered canon.

(2): The Fables live in New York and by extension the entire "mundy" world because they've fled their "homelands" to avoid a terrifying "Adversary" who's been murdering people by the thousands, enslaving the rest and ruling over all the homelands with an iron fist. This plot-line takes up the bulk of the first 75 issues of the comic.

If you loved the game then YES I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU READ THE COMICS!!! It has the same playful but dark tone that the game captured so beautifully and both Snow and Bigby are central characters in the comics (as well as literally a truck load of other wonderfully characters they couldn't squeeze into the game).

  • I was upset that Cole declared Bigby and enemy. I remember a few issues prior, where they were determined to get him back and all. I don't see why they still couldn't do that in some way. I think that now Rose has the ring, though, she might change that declaration some.

I don't think Rose ONLY meant that Snow loved Bigby for the sex and just the sex. I think she knew her sister loved him, but didn't quite understand why she would want such a "Dog" in bed? You know? I dunno. I think ROSE just wants him for the sex, there's definitely no love attachment for him through her. She basically wants to break her sister, though she might not even realize how evil she is being. Not until Hope appeared, and sarcastically congratulated Rose for doing what she wanted. I think there will definitely be a twist in the next issues, and I'm SUPER excited to see what new secrets will be revealed!

  • I think Rose will die in the end because I remember they said the Hope people (cant remember what they are called, like the followers of hope?) that most always end up dying

Shouldn´t Snow die by her heart pierced by sword ? Ozma sayed that.
It would make sence because Snow and Rose will end in sword fight. I want Snow to survive but ... :(

  • Yeah im not the biggest fan of willingham making things that happen in the main comic fit in with the spin offs because I personaly dont really like them ;-;

  • If he wrote all of the spin offs then they might be better, I like the spin-offs as it takes the focus off some charcters and shifts it onto others, in the main comic you can't really do that...

  • There's also the issue of Beast being able to transform in beginning of Fairest Volume 4 Of Men and Mice, when clearly he shouldn't be able to (since his curse was transferred to Bliss in main series Volume 16 Super Team, and Of Men and Mice arc is chronologically placed after Super Team). The 2 volumes sort of contradict each other in those parts.

I wonder if there is supposed to be an explanation for this, or is it an oversight by the writer (Willingham didn't write the Fairest series, though he worked as consultant for the series)?

I asked Mr. Willingham on his twitter, but still no answer from him...... Sigh.....

  • I think it's an oversight... Though issue 148 will have a last story for Beauty AND Beast, so maybe something will happen with him.

  • Sigh.....probably Willingham's capacity as consultant was pretty limited in The Fairest series.....otherwise I think they would have caught this glaring mistake/contradiction before it was published.

Not sure whether they will have Beauty and Beast last story in #148. They were supposed to have Hansel and Gretel last story in #146, but they had Prince Charming's story instead, so I don't know.

One of the following issues is supposed to have Jack of Fables Last story, and I'm not really interested in seeing that (since his story pretty much has an ending in Jack of Fables final volume), would rather have Hansel & Gretel, and Beauty and Beast last stories instead......

  • I don't really care about Hansel and Gretel tbh... But if Jack's last story is simply him revealing to Charming that he is his son, then that would be appropriate for a last story I think.

  • Mate, Jack is dead. His son Jack Frost killed him, and at the end of Jack of Fables, he is in his spirit form. So I don't know how that meeting with Charming will happen unless Jack is resurrected (Which I don't want to see happen. I really don't like Jack, and kinda glad he is dead), or Charming dies (which is unlikely, since his last story has him alive).

Personally, I wouldn't mind having Hansel and Gretel Last story. We don't really know what happened to Hansel after he was pushed off the cliff at Great Fables Crossover, and what Gretel is up to after being resurrected in residing in Haven.

  • The reason Snow doesn't object or support is because she is figuring out who she will kill, or get killed. She already ordered Grimble to track down and follow Brandish (possibly to poison him), and ordered Cinderella to kill Frau Totenkinder. The last issue will have everyone who didn't have a complete last story. Fables that will not be seen in issue 150 are: Flycatcher, Red Riding Hood, Sinbad, Prince Charming, Babe the Blue Ox, The Three Blind Mice, Beauty, Beast, Jack, and one other fable.

  • I haven't read any of my other Fables volumes since Fables 144 came out (I'm WAY too stressed about the main series to want to read Peter and Max, Fairest, Jack of Fables or Cinderella); I know that Jack was left as a spirit at the end of Jack of Fables, but I assumed that people could see him...
