TWD: Episode 2 won't load.

Hi, my game won't load Episode 2. I can click on it and it asks me if I want to rewind, either choice I choose results in a black screen. The game did not freeze because I can move my arrow around.

I have tried verifying the game integrity from steam, it did not work.

I am using a new save that just went through episode 1 and never played through episode 2.

Thanks.

I'm in the same boat as the OP here. EP 2 will not run. Just a black screen, a white arrow with red outline and the ax icon over on the right side of the screen. There is background music but nothing happens and nothing can be done.

Oddly this started out with me playing EP 2 and seeing the characters/choices from EP 1 where not carried over correctly... so I started from scratch, played through EP 1 again and now 2 will not run at all.

This is a Steam downloaded game running on Win 7

Please try reinstalling Steam and then reinstalling the Walking Dead. Also, please remove your Docuemnts\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead folder before relaunching Steam the first time after reinstall.

    That didn't help. :(

I have the same problem. I will start the game and when I try to load episode 2 I just get a black screen with a arrow I can move. I even tried jumping to episode 3 and that does not work as well. I tried restarting my computer, checking the integrity of the game cache, re installing the game, erasing my save file and starting from scratch, I even turned my graphics all the way down and nothing seems to work. please i need help.

Please remove the Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead folder from your computer. This will remove all your saves as well.

I am having the same problem but I am using the mac version. I tried uninstalling and reloading through steam but that has not helped.

I was in the middle of episode 3, loaded and played through it, and then this started with episode 4. I never had this problem until the update from steam saying my files 'would be converted into a more efficient format'. I'm pretty sure the problem is rooted there, and I haven't seen any solutions for mac users as of yet. So, yeah, help please?

I'm having this same problem, after recently installing episode 4. I wanted to have another playthrough going with alternate decisions, and now I can't launch episode 2... at all... I can launch any other episode fine, but when attempting to reply 2, it always hangs at this screen, until I alt+F4 out. What's going on here, and is there fix for this yet?

Since Steam converted game files, your saves may have changed locations. Please make sure that your saves are still in your Documents folder. Please look through this folder and if you see a Gamedata folder, remove it. Also check your Steam directory in the steamapps > common > the walking dead folder to make sure you do not have another set of prefs that was created after the file conversion.

Just to keep this thread up to date, I did go into my steamapps > common >Walking dead directory and deleted anything that had had any kinds of prefs data attached to it. All my saved games are intact and I can continue episode 2. However, we'll see if the other episodes work, but for now, thanks for the workaround! :)

Please confirm if I am understanding this correctly: the only solution to this issue is to delete all your save progress?

@Joshua2309 Please rename the prefs.prop file in

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\WalkingDead102

to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, then restart the game, and your save files will be restored.
