Fables 147 is a huge disappointment!
Just read Fables 147, worst issue of Fables that I have read so far...
Brandish's trial is a few panels of fighting followed by him losing his head, the remainder of his 'trial' until nightfall is just him looking for his head with a slight comedic tone whilst the others argue about what they should do...
Rose's part is pointless, she just comments about her surroundings (naked for some reason) and then right at the end, we get a completely new back story for her and Snow regarding their real Mother Lauda (this should've been revealed much sooner imo)
3 issues left until the end. I don't care if 150 is 150 pages long, this one issue has made me lose a lot of faith in the series, everything feels rushed and if Willingham decides to deal with every last detail in the final issue then that's a bad move as well...
We have several other side stories to deal with here: Geppetto's plan, Bigby's restoration, the trial by combat, the 'war' between Snow and Rose, and whatever the hell is happening with the Cubs atm (as in what are they doing while all this is going on) Grimble's adventure is going nowhere.
And what is the point of this Tom Wolfe or Tom the Wolf character that has been referenced recently????
Even the Last Story ends with a small hint that it could be continued one day!
Next issue comes out on January 21st... I'm not holding my breath this time.
Comments
Yup.
I really felt like 147 was filler because nothing happened at all
But now I know that literally NOTHING happened! What we saw of the trial was pointless and Rose... I don't get why she had to be naked throughout, but nothing was explained properly and what we really wanted to know was only hinted at at the end!
Next issue better be good, I'm not gonna hold my breath for anything, but it needs to progress the story somehow...
Seems like 147 was filler based on what you said. Man Mr. Willingham must be confident he can wrap it up in 3 issues.
Another filler issue. That's been going on for a while now (for the last 2~3 issues?).
Disappointed, but can't say I was surprised.
What're you expecting to see in 148 CoolGuy?
I don't think he can, at least not without rushing everything...
If he pulls off wrapping up the stories without rushing them, I will be impressed beyond belief!
Hopefully conclusion of the whole trial by combat, if it doesn't end by #148, then it will be dragging on for far too long (it already kinda feels like it's outstaying its welcome).
Also I expect Rose's trip back to her old house part to be finished (since in the #149 description it says she will use Bigby against Snow).
And lastly, Bigby's whereabouts and what he's doing.
There are still several unresolved storylines (like Gepetto, and Grimble that you've mentioned), but I'm not sure the issue size is big enough to cram in more (Each issue is like, 32 pages? Maybe in little snippets the can cram in, though I don't think that will help much in terms of moving the story forward especially since series is drawing to a close).
The 149 description actually says "And what role will Bigby Wolf play in their (Snow and Rose's) rift?"
The cover suggests that Rose will follow fairytale tradition and betray Snow, presumably by sleeping with Bigby to ensure that he and Snow are separated... However I doubt that even Rose has the power to bend Bigby to her will; he looks human on the cover and she probably won't sleep with a cracked monster so she must restore Bigby by giving him the ring, maybe when he gets restored he will be so confused/disoriented that Rose can use her magic to trick him into thinking that she is Snow?
I'm losing hope in the conclusion of this series (even if the conclusion next year turns out to be a really long break before someone picks up the pen for the Fables universe once more) but I am somehow convinced that Willingham can give us what we want, even if right now we can't see it working out.
If he saves the majority of unresolved issues for 150 then fair enough (150 pages is about 5 issues in one) but he shouldn't have to cram everything in for the finale, I feel that Willingham didn't anticipate how much story he would have left when he announced the series would end with 150 way back when, so he kinda backed himself into a corner with it...
