Can't even start the game.
I purchased the first season over steam and when I booted the game up it crashed trying to connect to the servers. I did some digging online and found that playing offline would work and it did but that only led to more problems, namely extremely laggy gameplay (freezing to the point where it prevents me from making crucial game choices in time) and loss of save files in later episodes, which is extremely frustrating. I've never had these issues with literally any other game in my library. How can I go about fixing this?

Please rename the prefs.prop file in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\default
to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, then start the game, and your save files will be restored. If you are experiencing any hitching or lagging during gameplay, please try Verifying your Game Cache and/or reinstalling the game.
