Should Fables Volume 22 be called The Wolf Among Us?

edited January 2015 in The Wolf Among Us

For those who don't know; Fables Volume 22 is the last Volume of the comic series (unless the pen is picked up again in the future, Willingham has hinted at the possibility)

It is issue 150 (which is 150 pages long) coupled with currently unknown bonus content, the bonus content will likely include an afterword from Willingham, but maybe some extra art sketches etc.

The Volumes current working title on Wikipedia is Boys In The Band (which is the name of a two issue story arc at the end of Volume 20 Camelot)

I want the last issue to focus on Bigby's point of view or something like that; it seems fair to me that he gets a spotlight after sooo much time dead and then as a feral monster. Maybe Willingham can honor the game by calling the volume The Wolf Among Us??

What do you think ppl?

  • The Wolf Among Us is already getting its own comic series so...fraid not ;s

  • I know that :P

Willingham could still call it that though; he's not the one writing TWAU comic...

  • Can you link me volume 22, because I was 100% sure that there was just going to be 21 Volumes. The only Volume 22 I can find is on amazon and it is the same as 21

It's got the same cover as Volume 21 atm (Snow and Rose in armour with swords) It has to be real otherwise Amazon wouldn't list it as a real thing.

It is listed on the Fables Wikipedia... (link redirects you to the definition of 'Fable' so I can't post one)

  • Probably not, considering the spinoff comic and the game are both called that :P

    Ok...

Let's not just call it 'The End' as that was used in Jack of Fables Volume 9 (I think)

I want it to be dedicated to Bigby cuz: Volume 10 The Good Prince - Flycatcher; Volume 15 Rose Red - Rose Red, Volume 19 Snow White - Snow White...

You could argue Volume 8 Wolves - Bigby; but I want Bigby to be a principal character in the last issue...

Kinda makes me wonder why they decided to call Volume 21 Happily Ever After, when the whole storyline of the arc seems to indicate it's NOT going in that direction at all.

It would have been much better to call Volume 22 Happily Ever After (that is, assuming Willingham decides to give a happy ending).

And yeah, I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally don't like the name "Boys In the Band." I just hope they don't use it as final title (I'm trying to remain optimistic since it's currently only a working title)

  • Some have a happy ending and others don't, so far:

    • Ride and Flycatcher - happy ending
    • 3 Blind Mice - happy ending I guess
    • Babe the Blue Ox - kinda sad ending actually
    • Beauty and Bliss - not sure whether it's a happy ending or a sad ending; they seem fine being just the two of them, but they're outlaws who deal with problems using fear and violence...
    • The Toxic Dream - Prince Charming's Last Story appears to include multiple Fables, it looks like a tragic ending as he plans on stopping Sinbad from creating another Empire by any means necessary
    • Sinbad - At first it seemed like a happy enough ending, but with the Toxic Dream I'm not so sure anymore...

Tbh; I feel that the Toxic Dream, Sinbad's Last Story and Beauty/Bliss' Last Story all add MORE story to explore. I mean Beauty and Bliss as outlaws solving problems by doing what needs to be done, that's some heavy stuff right there!

Oh I meant the main storyline, not the last stories. But you're right. The last stories need to be counted also. These last stories are pretty ambiguous in whether they are happy endings or not.

What about "The Homelands" as title for Volume 22? It seems to indicate most (if not all) Fables would be returning to the Homelands since magic cloaking Fabletown from mundies seems to have weakened very much, and The Farm is pretty much destroyed (after events in Clamour for Glamour in Fairest). Only Fable I can possibly think of staying in the mundy world is maybe Reynard, since Meghan is a mundy, and her uncle and cousin will now be running the Farm (though I could be wrong, Reynard and Meghan might just go to Homelands, and visit Meghan's relatives sometimes)

Having "The Homelands" as title will signify that the Fables are finally returning to their home, ending their long exile since the Adversary's invasion.

Volume 6 is called Homelands though... I feel it might end up being called The End or just simply Fables.

I didn't know the Farm got destroyed (then again Clamour for Glamour hasn't been released in Volume form yet)

I feel the main story will have it's happy ending somehow. Willingham has been at this series for a good 13 years and I'll be damned if he gives it a shit ending (although after the waste of paper that is Fables 147, I'm losing hope)

Darn, didn't know Volume 6 title was Homelands........Maybe then use "The Return" or "Back Home" as titles? I don't know.....The End just seems so unimaginative.

It was kinda appropriate for Jack's final volume since pretty much everyone dies at the end.....but I can see them trying harder to get a more creative title for this (I really like some of the main volume titles, such as "Inherit the Wind" that title was brilliant). And while Boys in the Band is a unique title, it only takes into account Boy Blues' band, not the Fables as a whole, so......(I want the title to include Fables as a whole, not just a select few).

I hope they give the Happy Ending too...

  • My favourite title is Storybook Love; that title describes the main plot of the Volume almost perfectly cuz it shows the beginnings of something between BigbyxSnow :)

  • Other possible titles for Volume 22:

    • Fables: Return Home (variation of my previous version Return to Homelands, since there is already a volume named "Homelands")
    • Fables: Farewell from Legends (the series started with legends in exile, saw I thought it may be fitting it ends with legends, and farewell implies them parting (and saying goodbye) to the mundy world, as well as Fables saying goodbye to the readers.

Can't really think of another. But please, JUST NOT "Boys in the Band."

    I hate that title.

  • Maybe the bonus content is him announcing TWAU S2? Please? Lol

  • I wonder if Willingham's afterword will end with "As for the future of Fables... we'll just have to wait and see now won't we?"

Maybe the bonus content is him announcing TWAU S2? Please? Lol

  • I really don't want that... I love both the comics and the game, but i just think that both of them are in so different paths that it would just be weird. Maybe a small comic at the end at most.
