Do limbs grow back?

I initially ripped off Gren's arm under the assumption that fables can heal pretty much from anything (like an axe in the head) but over the course of the season it does not appear that Gren's arm is growing back. So, what's the limit here?

  • It's never really explained as to what the limit is for healing in Fables. In the comic a character loses a limb then it remains that way, every Fable has their limits, regrowing limbs is something that no one has been able to do thus far.

Bigby (in both the game and the comics) however has snapped bones back into place and healed in an instant; he's been blasted to bits by shotguns and recovered in a matter of minutes; and recently in the comics someone took his arm all the way down to the bone but it had already started healing a few seconds afterwards...

The Fables believe that popularity among the Mundies is what gives them their power; however the 13th Floor Witches call this a mere theory that has never been tested under proper conditions; the Witches believe that it is the Magic that each Fable possesses inside of them that makes them powerful.

Bigby is shown as being a very powerful Fable in the game and especially in the comics; Frau Totenkinder is such a powerful Witch that she can go one on one with a God and survive (thought she uses up her magic as a result) It also depends on your heritage...

Bigby is the 7th Son of the North Wind and that apparently makes him a very powerful for a Fable (he has beaten all 6 of his brothers in a fight before) Also Bigby has an interesting Fate that determines he will continue to grow in strength and power...

Jack Horner has some interesting roots and cuz of this he is more than just a Fable (read the comics and Jack of Fables to find out)

    Does this answer your question?

  • Yeah, I guess I'll replay the game from that part and let Gren have his arm.

  • It's what I did; Gren didn't deserve to lose his arm, though I think he had his beat down coming :P

  • In Grendel's story didn't he lose his arm to Beowulf in a fight? I realize Telltale may have only brought his arm back if only to lose it again to Bigby in another fight...ironically. Still that means his arm was somehow back on him again so maybe it can magically come back again, but sadly we will never know.

  • Maybe there are spells that can reattach it? Or maybe Swineheart could've reattached it if he got to him quick enough...

How Gren got it back the first time is a mystery... Maybe TWAU comic that is being released atm will clear it up with backstory :)

  • Apparently it was reattached somehow:

I believe that is why Bigby has the option to rip that particular arm off.

I cant even remember who in the comics loses a limb .-.

Edit: I remember now, but he only lived like 2 days afterwords, maybe it takes longer than that

  • The Jeresy Devil originally have wings but they were cut off and there is a human fable in the comics who lost an arm. I think like HazzatheMan said, it depends on the Fables. Some very powerful Fables such as Bigby are able to reattach his limbs. But he is a demigod and he have shape-shifting abilities despite never developing them. Frau Totenkinder was burned to crispy and she managed to regenerate.

  • Bigby can reinsert a broken bone and it will heal in an instant, not sure about limbs (In Fables 145, Bellflower tires to cut off Bigby's arm but is stopped when she reaches the bone) I doubt any Fables can regenerate lost limbs from nothing, Frau is an incredibly powerful Witch though...

  • I was gonna say who it was, but I hate putting up the spoiler tag all the time :P
