Yet another black screen issue

I've recently started playing the Walking Dead on my laptop, purchased through Steam. I started up the game, played through until the babysitter attack, where I was taken by surprise and eaten. I thought, no big deal, until I clicked to continue and the whole screen turned black with only my cursor showing. After waiting a while, I realized something was wrong and used Task manager to shut down The Walking Dead. After searching the internet, I checked my Steam directory for The Walking Dead files (My OS is Windows 8, maybe 8.1) and there was no prefs.prop file. There was one in my Documents, in "C:\Users\My_Username\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead". After trying for about seven hours, surfing the internet and trying solutions, I've just about had it and finally have to ask for help. As I've seen in many other posts, there is a support tool. I'm tired of trying to fix this, hopping between my files and the forums, unsure if what I am doing is having any effect at all. I need professional help.

After fiddling around more, Season 1 decided to start working. I'm not sure how, but it was probably a combination of things. I think the main problem was the missing prefs.prop file in my Steam files directory for The Walking Dead. After I played through Episode 1 without dying, I checked the Steam directory and the prefs.prop file had been created. My black screen problems ended after that.
