Game won't recognize S1 save
Ok here's my weird problem. I've played through the Walking Dead and finished it twice in 2013. I can pick an unsaved slot and try to start it and have it load those two complete saves anytime. But this year in June 2014, I played through the Walking Dead S1 to make another complete save file so someone else can play through it, because I'd lost the save we would have used. The dates by each file in-game are from 2013, but no 2014 save.
It won't recognize that one completed save. The other two from 2013 show up, but not that one and I just want to explode.
I've tried the prefs.prop.bak, and it should be worth noting that I have two different Telltale Games folders, one with Walking Dead s1 and the other with both s1 and my other folders for game files made by Telltale.
In addition, I've also since deleted those two 2013 saves, I neither needed or wanted them.
Is Steam version on PC.

For some reason the comments won't allow the link to show, just remove the spaces.
If you want to use your save files from the 2014 playthrough, you will need to take all the files from
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
and place them into
C:\Users\%YOURNAME%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
Make sure to backup the files already in that location just in case you want to use them. I also noticed the prefs.prop file associated with these saves is in
C:\Users\%YOURNAME%\Desktop
Please also move it into
C:\Users\%YOURNAME%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
and restart the game, and your save files should be restored.
It's working properly, and I have a game started with save data imported from the recent S1 save file! You're a tech wizard, thank you.
You're welcome, I hope you enjoy the game!
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead isn't on my computer. My documents folder is on a server at 192.168.1.200.
Unfortunately, my C:\Users\Public\Documents\Telltale Games\ is nowhere to be found. I noticed when I started the game of Season Two, all of my save files from \198.162.1.200\Users\%YOURNAME%\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
were found duplicated in
\198.162.1.200\Users\%YOURNAME%\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead Season Two
,but it still threatens to generate random decisions.
It clearly found the files, but the game doesn't seem to notice. What should I do?
Thanks in advance!

Here it is!

I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately our game was only designed to work when the game is installed to a local drive. Please try installing the game to a local drive on your computer, and copy over the save files from your \The Walking Dead Season Two\ folder from the server file directory, to the local drive file directory, and restart the game, and your saves should be restored.
How do you tell Steam to install a game onto a local drive? Steam, and all my games, has been using our server drive at 192.168.1.200 ever since it was originally installed. Are you saying that when installing The Walking Dead, I can direct Steam to install it locally to my C: drive, or are you saying that I need to re-install Steam and all my games to the local drive?
Unfortunately we do not support installing the game to a server drive, and the game will only be able to save to a local drive. Unfortunately I do not believe you can direct where the game installs through Steam. In order for the game to save properly, you will need to have both Steam, and The Walking Dead installed to your local drive.
Will there ever be an update regarding this issue where the game will search your entire computer for save files instead of a specific spot? Because it seems a LOT of people are having this issue.
Unfortunately at this time, I do not believe there are plans to update the game's file directory search function.
It appears that I've misspoke regarding how things are installed. Steam is in fact installed locally on my C: drive. It's just my Documents folder that's on the remote server.
Therefore, I uninstalled both Season 1 and 2. Then, after remapping my Documents folder to the local
C:\Users\%MYNAME%\Documents location, I reinstalled Season 1. I also moved my good Save files to a safe place.
When launching Season 1, it could not find the Save files since I moved them, so it created new ones as expected. HOWEVER, instead of creating the "The Walking Dead" folder in C:\Users\%MYNAME%\Documents, it used the folder on the Server again. :-(
How can I do a "clean" uninstall of Season 1 so that it resets the Save file folder?
You will need to uninstall the game using Steam's 'Delete Local Content' function by right clicking the game in your Steam Library, and clicking Delete Local Content. Then go to your C:/Users/YOURNAME/Documents/Telltale Games/ folder and delete the 'The Walking Dead' folder, and this will clear your computer of all files associated with the walking dead. Please also make sure to disable Steam Cloud for the game. (You can check this by right clicking on the game in your Steam Library, clicking Properties, and click the Updates tab. Near the bottom of the page, you can see if the Steam cloud is enabled for The Walking Dead. If it is, please uncheck the box) Then reinstall the game, and you will not experience the issue anymore after reinstalling the game.
There must be some leftover configuration information that we have not yet located. We've removed the game using 'Delete Local Content', and unchecked the Steam Cloud option for the game. Then, we removed the C:\Users\MYNAME\Documents\Telltale Games folder, and the same folder that was on my server drive. We then rebooted the computer, and started with a "fresh install" of The Walking Dead (season one). As soon as the game is launched, a "Telltale Games" folder gets created on my server at 192.168.1.200.
We then repeated ALL steps above, and this time removed the server from the network before installing The Walking Dead (season one). Now, after launching, the game appears to "hang" during loading (the mouse cursor "spins" for a few seconds, then comes back as though nothing has happened). We are able to launch other games without even exiting Steam (e.g. Team Fortress 2 and Portal).
Is there a configuration file somewhere that tells The Walking Dead where the "save" files should go when launched? Is there a startup log file we can capture to help you determine what's going on?
Thanks for your patience in working with us on this!
I apologize for the inconvenience. It sounds like either Steam or The Walking Dead, is still being associated with your local server. Can you please clarify if you are able to disconnect from your local server, then try starting the game, and see if you are able to have your save file directory properly show up on your local drive?
Yes, as I mentioned above, the game "hangs" after removing the server then re-installing.
Here were the steps taken:
1. Removed The Walkd Dead using 'Delete Local Content' in Steam.
2. Verified that the Steam Cloud option is unchecked.
3. Deleted the Telltale Games folder from my documents folder on the server (where the game currently thinks the Save information is in).
4. Verified that there's no Telltale Games folder in C:\Users\MYNAME\Documents\ or in C:\Users\Public\Documents\
5. Disconnected server (192.168.1.200) from the network by unplugging the Ethernet cable.
6. Rebooted computer.
7. Launched Steam, and installed The Walking Dead (season one).
8. Verified that NO Telltale Games folders were created in C:\Users\MYNAME\Documents\Telltale Games or in C:\Users\Public\Documents\
9. Launched The Walking Dead (season one).
10. Game appears to "hang" during loading (the mouse cursor "spins" for a few seconds, then comes back as though nothing has happened).
11. Verified that NO Telltale Games folders were created in C:\Users\MYNAME\Documents\Telltale Games or in C:\Users\Public\Documents\
12. Without existing Steam, were able to successfully launch other games (e.g. Team Fortress 2 and Portal).
Isn't there a startup log file we can capture to help you determine what's going on?
My apologies, please run the support tool batch file again after you have installed The Walking Dead: Season One locally to your computer's local drive, and I will take a look at the new file directory information, and be able to assist you further.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you, and thanks for staying patient! Here it is...

My apologies, unfortunately it appears that you only uploaded the dxdiag.txt file download link, and not the link to the entire .zip file outputted from the support tool. If you can, please upload the entire .zip file that the Support Tool outputs, and I will be able to assist you further with your issue.
