Clan or noble house?

Question for people who knows Martin's books - is there a difference between clan and noble house? No difference? Or, is the clan other type of community, smaller?
*"The army covered twenty-two miles the first day, by the reckoning of the guides Lady Sybelle had given them, trackers and hunters sworn to Deepwood with clan names like Forrester and Woods, Branch and Bole." *
Quote is from "A Dance with Dragons", 5th book. Forresters are described as clan. Maybe it's the clue. Maybe the game is about THE FALL of House Forrester. Unstoppable, there won't be happy ending. What do you think?

Actually, the chapter that includes that quote is written from Asha Greyjoy's POV. She might simply think that House Forrester is a clan, even if such assumption is incorrect. This doesn't necessarily mean that House Forrester was/is a clan. Clan structure is a thing for noble houses exactly south of The Gift, and Deepwood is a bit closer to the South than that.
The difference between a noble house and a clan is pretty self-evident - a noble house operates from a holding, maintains their overlordship over nearby lands, has an established household. A clan, on the other hand, is more of a tight-knit community, maybe even more of a tribe than usual lordship. The Clansmen also have a tendency to refer to one another like "The Liddle", instead of "Lord Liddle", etc. Forresters so far behaved and were shown as a noble house, not a clan.
Don't take anything I've said as a 100% truth, though. It's pretty much how I view it and may differ from how it actually is.
So House Forrester won't be degraded to clan Forrester. Ok, thanks for reply.
It always be that that they are a clan in the books in but a House in the show. They exist in separate universes, remember? Anyway, everything @Lingvort said is a great point.
