Stuck at the Pyrite

I can't seem to figure out how to get the Pyrite to the Stone Block before it cools. Any ideas?

Walking to the mould on the ground takes too long, however there is a place close by from which you can see the mould (and use the pyrite).
Walk the other way, to the top of the cliff, and pour the pyrite down from there.

I figured out myself that I should melt the pyrite to make a false turtle for the pirates. But how do I get the coals hot enough to melt it? I can't lift the logs, and he wont burn the book or anything.

The grill has a heat regulator, but it's missing something.
    Such as a control dial.
A dial that would be used to control the heating of a hot tub.
Like the one that the Merfolk chieftain uses as a throne.
