TWD Season 1 Episode 4 to 5 transition freeze

Hello,

I've got The Walking Dead Season 1 for mac, played through the game, so far I love it, incredible game!
But when I go to start episode 5 (No Time Left), It freezes on a black screen. I've tried going in and out of full screen as some other posts suggested with no luck. I couldn't find any more support for this issue on mac. (even tried some of the windows fixes with no luck)
Here is a link to the file the support tool has created: https://www.sendspace.com/file/kk81vn
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Some support would be really nice.....

  • This has made the game unplayable past episode 4.
I've followed all the steps in your support sticky.
What else do I need to do to get a response???

I sincerely apologize for the delayed response. Please do a search on your computer for prefs.prop (the game's preferences file). The only prefs.prop file that should be in the search results, should be in your 'Walking Dead' file directory. If you have one in a Steam file directory, please rename it to prefs.prop.bak to disable it. Then restart the game, and your save files should be restored.

  • Hi Mike,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I only have one prefs.prop file on my computer. And thats in the location stated by the support tool. (home/library/application support/telltale games/thewalkingdead/prefs.prop

Its not a save file issue i'm having.

The save file is there. It's just a black screen when I go to play episode 5.
    As in:
    Launch from steam
    Come to main menu
    Click to continue
    Click play
Select Game 1 (it says episode 4)
    Click Play
It scrolls to episode 5: no time left (As I have finished episode 4)
I click play, mouse cursor dissapears, left with a black screen and no sounds playing. Nothing else happens.
It's still responding in activity monitor but only using 3% of the cpu.

I look forward to your reply.

If you are seeing a black screen with no sounds playing in the background, you may have received an incomplete or corrupt download file of Episode 5. I recommend uninstalling the game from Steam by right-clicking the game in your Steam Library, and clicking 'Delete Local Content'. (Please note that this will not delete your save files) Then choose to reinstall the game, and after the game has installed, the update will start through Steam. Once it is complete, please try starting the game, and see if you are then able to start Episode 5 successfully.

My apologies, I recommend also try changing the download region from which your update is coming from. To do this, please click View on the top left of the Steam window, and click Settings from the drop down menu. Once the Settings window is open, click on the Downloads tab, and under the Download Region section, try switching to a different region using the drop down menu. Then close the Settings window, and restart Steam before attempting to Verify the Game Cache again.

Can you please clarify if you are able to see the game's screen when starting Episode 5, then switching the game to Windowed Mode using the Windows shortcut (Alt+Enter)? Also, have you tried starting the game both while connected, and disconnected from the internet?
