Picking up the coals

I've been trying to pick up the coals where Elaine was pinned down but I'm clueless to how I have to pick them up. I've pretty much gone through my whole inventory by now.

What am I Missing?

Hey, you're not the only one. This was my biggest hangup in the whole game, just because I totally missed that one thing.

Yea, same here. Never needed a single clue in neither first chapter or the second EXCEPT for the bloody coal part. Credits to Telltale for such an EYECATCHING bucket... heh
As Liam Neeson would say it....Mind your surroundings!

Finding the bucket was easy, but where on earth are the coals? One of you said they're next to where elaine was pinned down.....but I don't see them?

They are on the ground next to the library and where Elaine was pinned. You'll see them when she after she gets up. I thought it looked like a necklace at first, but they are coals!

hmmm...this part must come later in the game or something because elaine is still talking to the merfolk queen and the millugunty (sp?) pirate captain in the royal chamber. I still can't find the coal, I looked everywhere. I turned the hint frequency on to full blast and all guybrush keeps saying is "There must be more stuff for me to plunder!" But I looked ALL over the map, islands, etc. everywhere! And there's nothing to pick up.......a glitch or something? (btw I got the seahorse and the sea turtle, but not the cranky fish artifact).

Yea, you're probably not at that part yet...

You won't be able to get the coal before you find all three artifacts. Get the fish artifact and then start worry about the coal

I had the same problem-- thanks for the clue! I even turned hints up to full, but it didn't give me anything useful. I agree that items should be a bit more obvious. The hot tub controls were also tricky.

its funny I had the same problem spotting the bucket, while a friend of mine was also only stumped once on another puzzle. some see it easily others dont. at least a puzzle didnt stump me just a stupid bucket. PERFECT level of difficulty.

Here in UK the day after (22nd August) we could download, TV Channel 4 teletext reviewed the game and complained that they could not initially find the bucket/thought that the ep 2 was too short/not funny.

I like ep 2 and am glad that I finished it in one 3hr sitting under my laptop (doesn't run on this my favourite PC).

One day I shall record all my 5 Monkey Island runthroughs to e.g. a digital format and just play the recordings.

Seriously, what's with this "I can't find the bucket" epidemic?

One of the highlights of the genre is that you have to FIND the items which will be used in a certain way. In the old days items were more often then not hidden. Sometimes the game was sneaky enough to hide them BEHIND the screen - you had to come near the edge of the screen for it to unexpectedly scroll a few inches and reveal the item you need.

Bucket is standing there, quite obviously, just waiting for you to pick it up. Considering that in Telltale's adventures locations aren't really overflowing with objects, it completely stupifies me how someone can miss it. Or ok, sure, you CAN miss it I guess, but complain later in an actual REVIEW it is difficult to find? Come on! What do you want, huge neon arrows on each screen pointing out stuff you need to pay attention to?
