Episode 1 crashes

The game (GoG version) crashes about 15 minutes into Episode 1. No error message or nothing, it just jumps back to the desktop. Before the game crashes, the sound starts to crackle a bit so I tried to switch my headset from 5.1 to stereo and unplugging it completely but that didn't help. I've also tried reinstalling and verifying/repairing the files through GoG Galaxy. I've also tried to run the game as an admin but it didn't help.

Comments

  • Precisely the same problem. It's happening in the GOG version of the game right after Lord Forester gets killed by the two Frey dudes in like the first 10-15 minutes of the game. Crashes to desktop without an error message or any other notable problems.

    Please fix!

  • Sorry for gramatical errors.
Same problem too on the GOG version after 10 minutes from the begin. I tried by running the game windowed and it worked, but the game crashes after other 10 minutes during another loading without any way to avoid this (for what I know) . Hope for the fix of the problem.

  • same here...

  • I've just noticed that every time the game crashes, a dump file is created in the installation folder with exception code 0xc0000005, which (I think) is a memory access violation. Dunno if that's relevant though.

  • Anyone got a fix for this?

  • Same. Just bought this, and it crashes at the same point. Similar Support Tool logs as OP.

  • Same issue. Same (GOG) version of the game.

  • Ditto here, same version, same crash.

  • Any help on this issue, Telltale?

  • Thread: Game crashing at end of each point

As the title says, at the end of each point (there are multiple points in every season) the game just closes - no error message or anything. I managed to get past the first point with it crashing about 60% of the time, but now at the end of point 2 it always crashes.

Here are the contents of the dump file that's generated when the game close**s.

    Dump Summary

  • Same here... GOG Version

  • Same problem

  • Same crash here. Good thing this topic is now google top 1 result.

  • I guess i'm having the exact same problem, the dump file indicates a memory access violation. Also GoG version

  • Same issue with my copy of GOT from GOG. I tried changing setting, veryfing files, reinstalling, runing as administratior ets. nothing works. Any advice?

I've found a temporary solution (it may bring consequences in future gameplay). This is an overkill, you will need a debugger with 'continue' option (I've used Visual Studio Professional; Free community edition should work as well):

    1. Run game
    2. In menu press Alt + Enter to bring game to windowed mode
    3. Run Episode one
    4. When game crushes a window will pop up with debug option select it.
    5. In next window select "New instance of Visual Studio" (or other debug program you use)
    6. When Visual Studio start a new window will pop up saying there was an exception in "ntdll.dll" click continue button in this window
    7. Game should continue you can go back to full screen pressing Alt + Enter

What is wrong in this solution:
Using continue option in debugger causes game to skip some code. If in this code something important is saved in tour save file it will not be saved. If in the future game will try to read data shat should be saved in there it will do something strange or crash.

    P.S.
A few moments later similar crash takes place and this solution does not work

Thanks man, it's good to see smart guys trying to worki around annoying bugs.

By god, we don't want the programmers or Telltale staff to fix the problem or give any sort of response to it...

  • Same issue here. If anyone has any insight that would be great.

  • same crash in the GOG.com version.

  • In the club... :(

  • Just bought the game, same exact point of the crash. GOG version...is anyone on Steam with this problem?

Ditto. GoG version. have tried all sorts.

    Running in windowed

    AA off

    Low Settings

    Lower Resolutions

Reinstalling outside of the Galaxy client.

Sent a support ticket through GoG with no reply so far. If this keeps up will be getting a refund.

  • Yea best thing we can do ATM is make support tickets on GoG, otherwise this won't get much attention, and as far as I know this isn't happening for Steam users.

It seems it crashes when it is supposed to play the intro movie.

If you skip episode 1 you can start playing episode 2. (Close you eyes and ears during the recap, or you get spoilered!!!) But episode 2 also crashed right when it was supposed to play the intro movie.

    SOLUTION:
    Rename or delete Galaxy.dll

Galaxy.dll is GOG file so it should not corrupt game. I've found that Glaxy.dll tries to free already freed resource and that causes the problem. Renaming it will not load it to memory so problem will not appear.

  • YES! Thank you! That indeed did work. Now let's just hope that the rest of the game works.

  • The one you've installed your game in. If you have Windows 7,8 or 8.1 you can right-click on an icon of a game on your desktop and select "Open file location" to open installation directory.

  • Gonna leave this here:

I also have the GOG version
