Crash at startup after playing episode 3

Hello,
Today I was playing episode 3. The game was running fine for the most part, but when I got to the intro credit sequence, the game suddenly crashed.
Since this crash I am unable to start the game, every time I try, all I get is a black screen that disappears after a second or two.
Is there any way to fix this myself or will I have to wait for an update or reinstall the game to continue playing?

Edit: I've tried running the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode (I'm on Windows 8). In compatibility mode the game starts up fine, but it gets stuck on the save file/episode select screen. It doesn't freeze entirely, but the controls lock up and I can do nothing but alt+f4.

By the why, the support tool from the sticky did not create a .zip file or anything else. There are however a bunch of dump files in the games directory.

Edit: After further investigation I found out that this seems to be some kind of savegame corruption. Deleting/moving my savefiles resolves the issues, both the crash on startup as well as the lock up at the selection screen. However I would rather not start this game all over again, especially not when there are still gamebreaking bugs like this that completely halt any progression.

I apologize for any difficulties this has caused you. Can you please clarify if you are playing the Steam version, or the Telltale Games version of the game? If the game is crashing only when your save files are present. I recommend first try uninstalling and reinstalling the game, then start it and see if you are then able to see your save files correctly.

  • Thank you for your reply. I am playing the Steam version of the game. Sadly neither verifying the game cache nor reinstalling the game fixed the issue.
The game only starts up once the corrupted savefile has been removed. Bummer.

Thank you for providing the extra information. Unfortunately if the game were to crash during an autosaving or loading sequence, your save files may have indeed become corrupted. If this is the case, I would have to unfortunately recommend that you delete your save files and start a new game. Again, my apologies for and inconvenience that this causes.

  • Well, that sucks, but thanks for your time anyway. Please let me know if the dump files can be of use for the devs to help fix the crashes and I'll provide them.
