TWD 1 Mac Episode 4 into Episode 5 bugs

Having the same problem as others - Episode 4 is not saving properly and not showing statistics and Episode 5 remembers none of the actions, decisions or storyline that happened in Episode 4.

Have read advice but not sure what to do when running from Steam as I am. Hope you can help!

Please rename the prefs.prop file in

    /Users/sa*****an/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/the walking dead/TheWalkingDead.app/Contents/Resources/Pack/WalkingDead104/

to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, then restart the game and your save files will be restored.

(Your Library folder is sometimes hidden, to make it visible, please open a Finder window, and at the top of the screen, click Go and hold down the Option key. The Library will now become available in the drop down menu. Click that and follow the above file path, and rename the file I specified above.)

  • Thank you for your reply.

I renamed the file (although it wasn't exactly where you said, but I found it) and have restarted the game. Nothing on my saves seem to have changed - still says episode 5 for my first saved game.

If you ever started playing Episode 5 with your incorrect choices, and allowed the game to save, you may need to rewind to the last chapter/checkpoint in Episode 4, then play through the end of the episode in order for your choices to properly carry over again.

  • will do - thank you!

  • Renaming the file and rewinding didn't work - Episode 5 again started with no one with me even though I brought along everyone at the end of Episode 4. Tried it four times with same disappointing result.

Do you currently have Steam Cloud saving enabled for the game? After you deleted the secondary prefs.prop file, a new one may have been created if you have Steam Cloud saving enabled. (You can check this by right clicking on the game in your Steam library, clicking properties, and click the updates tab. Near the bottom of the page, you can see if the Steam cloud is enabled for The Walking Dead: Season One)

I recommend you first check that a second prefs.prop file was not recreated when you started the game. If there was, please try deleting it again, then disable Steam Cloud Saves by following my steps above, and try replaying through the last chapter of Episode 4 one more time. Again, my apologies for any difficulties this has caused you.

  • Thanks - I disabled the Steam Cloud, and played through the last part of Episode 4 - once again! No luck again, ended up on my own at the start of Episode 5.

I then tried changing the prefs.prop file to ,bak and restarted, and there were no saved files and the game just wanted to start from Episode 1.

All very frustrating - can you help?

  • And once again, if I now press Play and go back to Episode 4, there are no stats. It just seems that my Episode 4 data gets wiped every time I finish it and try to start Episode 5. I have tried this many times now with the same disappointing result.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Please try running the Support Tool again, and re-upload your new .zip file to the File Hosting Website, and I will look over your new file structure to make sure you do not have any more duplicate files causing this issue.

  • Thank you very much - https://www.sendspace.com/file/yisfqp

The script seemed to say "Permission Denied" a lot while running - not sure if that's an issue or not.

    Thanks again

After looking over your new Support Tool information, there appears to be a new secondary prefs.prop file located in the following location:

    /Users/sa*****an/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/the walking dead/TheWalkingDead.app/Contents/Resources/Pack/WalkingDead104/

(Your Library folder is sometimes hidden, to make it visible, please open a Finder window, and at the top of the screen, click Go and hold down the Option key. The Library will now become available in the drop down menu. Click that and follow the above file path, and rename the file specified above to prefs.prop.bak)

I also noticed you have multiple prefs.prop files in your trash bin. Even though they are in there, they may still be active. I recommend either fully deleting them from your trash bin, or renaming them to prefs.prop.bak as well. After doing this, please restart the game and your save files should be restored.

  • Again - I can't find the route you specify - once I get the /common/thewalkingdead, I can't see a folder route /TheWalkingDead.app/Contents

the only prefs.prop file I can find is library/application support/TelltaleGames/TheWalkingDead

Any ideas? Are there hidden folders I can't see?

My apologies, when you are in the /the walking dead/ folder and cannot see the following .app folder, please press CTRL+Left Click, then 'Show Package Contents' from the box that pops up. You should then be able to see folders with the .app naming.

  • Ah OK - thank you for that! Ended up having to play the whole of Episode 4 again but... it worked! Decisions remembered for Episode 5 :-)

Thank you very much for your help!
