Fiona would have laughed at his attempt to make his tone sound final if he wasn't aggravating her by the minute. As it was, though, she put on her best snarl and he visibly shrank in size.
"Yes." She made sure to jab him in the chest with her index finger. "Yes, you are."
"You're used to the Pandoran wildlife! And the heat! And everything else that sucks. Which is everything."
"I don't care," she rolled her eyes, "I'm tired of doing everything for you. Grow up."
"I'm taller than you." He snorted.
"Yeah, you also have the mind of a five year old."
That shut him up, at least, but she could really do without his pouting -- it only proved her point.
"So," Vaughn nervously interrupted, "who's getting the water afterall?"
They both pointed at each other wordlessly and he sighed.
"Guys..." he started, "Sasha and I have gone each at least three times. Give us a break. One of you needs to go, I don't care who but just go."
Both of them crossed their arms at the same time and Vaughn was sorely tempted to cuss them out (he could swear they had a talent for managing to bring out his darker side) when Sasha finally decided to have a word in.
"Alright," she waved her hands to get their attention, "since you're both acting like kids then let's settle this with a kid's game."
Giving them no time to respond, she disappeared around the corner, leaving them in an awkward silence and a few shared glances. She didn't take too long, though, quickly reappearing with a mat under her arms that prompted Fiona to gasp.
"Oh, no..."
"Wha- what's happening?" Rhys frantically looked between Fiona and the mat and she took a little pleasure in his freaking out despite her own gut twisting.
"Please tell me this isn't what I think it is."
"It isn't what you think it is." Her sister shrugged, laying the mat down in front of her, the coloured circles seemingly mocking Fiona. "Lying is easy, you know."
"Twister." She pinched the bridge of her nose. "You're making us play Twister."
"Yep."
"What's Twister?" Rhys nervously shifted his weight from one foot to the other.
"Come on and find out." Sasha gestured to the mat and they both reluctantly made their way to the edge of it.
"Alright," she continued, "I'm the referee. Whichever colour I tell you to put your arm or leg on you reach for it but you can't take the same circle. The first to fall down loses and goes to get the water."
"Sounds easy," Rhys raised an eyebrow, "I have long legs. I'm gonna win."
"We'll see about that," she scoffed, throwing her hat to the ground, "I have experience."
"On your marks," Sasha interrupted them with a whistle, "lemme use the spinner."
It spun for a couple of seconds as she eyed it before it finally came to a stop.
"Ah," she signaled to them, "right foot, red."
Easily enough, they reached over and took a step forward
"Left hand, yellow."
It was easier, for him, she had to admit, to stretch towards the circles but she knew she could outplay him in resistance.
"Left foot, blue."
He probably should have chosen another circle but in the hurry he was, his long leg almost intertwined with her right leg and she growled at him.
"Sorry." He mumbled but got no reply.
She knew the rules -- she was just mildly embarrassed.
"Right foot, blue."
Now she awkwardly managed to get around his leg but was forced to stand side by side and huffed.
"Right hand, green."
Somehow they ended up reaching for the same circle and the touch almost made her lose her balance -- she could tell it was happening to him too -- she was the first to jolt back and take the circle next to it instead. His face was rosy and it made her want to laugh but the determination to win proved stronger.
"Right foot, green."
She knew this wouldn't end well.
Reaching as much as she could, she was pretty sure she ended up straddling his head to reach the nearest circle and she could tell by his ragged breathing that he was trying really hard not to fall -- that or he was enjoying this and she'd have to have a word with him later.
Sasha's muffled laughter wasn't helping either.
"Left hand, yellow."
This was their undoing. She was sure she wouldn't be able to keep her balance regardless of which of the two spots she could turn to and she was fairly sure Rhys was too scared to even attempt to put a hand under her. So she risked it.
She reached for the circle on the edge and felt herself shake and, she guessed, put more weight on Rhys than he could take and he collapsed first, taking all her balance with him.
She quickly stood up when the landing was more intimate than she intended it to be -- at least her plan had worked.
"Nah," Sasha managed to let out in the middle of her fit of laughter, "you're both going. You both fell."
"Are you kidding me?!" Fiona placed her hat back on her head. "He fell first!"
"And how," Sasha winked at her, "but you both hit the floor. I guess I just didn't realise who did it first."
"That's bullshit and you know it," she glanced over at Rhys, still hiding his face in his hands from the contact, "he was under me."
"Oh, my," Sasha wiggled her eyebrows, "I don't need details."
"Stop."
"Didn't see it, didn't happen. The referee is always right. It was a draw, you're both going."
She bit her lip to stop herself from a snarky comeback and opened the door with a loud thud.
"Well, what are you waiting for?" She rolled her eyes at Rhys. "Hurry up."
He didn't argue and she wondered if he was even upset about it at all. Something told her that he probably wasn't.
She'd get back at Sasha some day.
