Favorite book/seasons/episode

Idk I'm bored and I figured to help pass some time, we could discuss our favorite A Song of Ice and Fire books/Game of Thrones show season/ and game episode. For me its -

Book: A Game of Thrones or A Feast for Crows is my favorite

Show: I remember enjoying season 2 the most

Game: Episode 5 for me

Book: Either A Game Of Thrones or A Storm of Swords (probably the latter)

Show: I think Season 4 was my favorite.

Game: Hard to say, I felt like each one was improving upon the last until Episode 5. Not that it was bad or anything, just felt like more of a step back rather than a step forward (though it was a great set up for the finale).

And may I ask why you personally enjoyed A Feast For Crows so much? Just since most consider it their least favorite.

  • Even though every book is amazing, there are some POV character/parts of the storyline that bore me. But I didn't feel like that in A Feast of Crows, I enjoyed every single part of it. Same goes for A Game of Thrones, so that's why they are tied for number one

  • I can understand that! Cool!

Book: Clash of Kings or Storm of Swords... COK is awesome for the overall atmosphere of the five-sided conflict, Theon chapters and the House of the Undying. ASOS has more shocking moments, the introduction of Dorne through Oberyn, the Battle of Castle Black but more importantly the Jaime chapters that are my favorites among the series... Too hard to choose...

    Season: Season 3

Game: I'm not even sure I remember too well the different episodes... EP2 or 4 maybe?

  • Book: A Clash of Kings

    Season: Season Two

Episode of the game: Episode four

  • I've only heard the Game of Thrones as an audiobook. As far as the show, probably season four. The game isn't that memorable to me; I say ep1 by default.

  • Don't have a favorite show episode/season because I haven't watched it. I find porn boring and I get bothered by little details like, for example in the episode one preview 1) Why did they change who survived the prologue attack? 2) Horses don't work like that, which is why in the book the scout left his horse behind. 3) What's with all the weird sacrificial/ritual stuff? The book was infinitely scarier with the semblance of life minus the moving. Etc. But you guys don't want to hear that rant.

Favorite book would have to be Hedge Knight (the prequel). If I must pick from the main series, probably Storm of Swords. Lots of good politicking in there if I remember rightly. I think my least favorite has been Dance of Dragons. It feels like the song that never ends in terms of Tyrion's voyage. Normally I like Tyrion and Jon Snow. In that book, I kept skimming their chapters, waiting for something to happen.

Favorite episode of the game? Can't name one. There are parts I liked. Probably my favorite is Gerard's fight on the wall. Most of Gerard's plotline has been good and balanced. I'm finding his trudge to the North Grove to be boring now, but that's more for pessimistic companions and nothing to mark progress than anything else. After that, it would have to be Asher and the pitfighters. I think hiring the pitfighters is completely inadequate to their purpose, but it was a fun sequence and beggars can't be choosers. I like the general idea of Mira's plotline, but it's lacking in execution since it doesn't matter what you do, you end up with the same results. It feels like it should make for a great bit to replay, and it doesn't.

Ethan/Roderick would have to be my least favorite. I can't come up with anything I really liked about either, and all of the worst bits happened on their watch, not that you had any actual control over it (Ramsay, Ramsay again, the traitor).

I might have put Roderick's talk with Ludd Whitehill on the list. I did that with Royland as back up and Gryff as a pawn, leaving the Glenmoore archers at home to protect my keep. I got Ludd to bargain for Ryon and things were looking good. And I was patting myself on the back for planning things out well, picking the right choices to be diplomatic yet forceful and protecting my keep. And then I got home to an empty keep save for Ramsay and Talia. And it was a cliffhanger! and I waited for episode 5 so I could find out WTF happened while I was away and where all my guards went. . . and I never did find that out. They just vanished. And someone opened the gate ... because .... um.... stupid? I don't know. Giant plot hole.

I don't mind not being as smart as I think I am. I do mind when my clever plans fail for no reason at all outside of "Telltale demands it!"

Anyway, that soured the entire experience and made me feel that it was utterly pointless to make any choices or do anything other than sit at home in my keep and brood. I swear at this point I don't care if Ryon lives or dies. And if my "mother" opens her mouth to make one more comment about him, I'll have the guards shoot her. I am done with this plot line even if the game won't allow me to be done with it.

  • Have you tried doing the combined reading of AFFC/ADWD? I'm using it right now for my re-read and it actually makes both books feel more enjoyable. I'm catching a lot of interesting things that I missed by reading them in order.

  • Book: A Feast For Crows, it just had a lot of my favourite characters in it while leaving out some of the more annoying ones, like Dany.

Show: Probably Season 1. It's the closest to any of the books and I think it was the high-point of the series. I wish the show had focused more on the politics over shock deaths. Seriously, I'm still pissed about that Stannis character assassination and then off-screen death.

Game: They've honestly blended together for me, but punching the shit out of Gryff was a high-point, so I'll go with Episode 4.
