Although we can't be 100 % sure, maybe Jack is still in Rhys' head and the only thing that got changed is that Rhys in the present can control him better and doesn't let him 'wake up' as frequently. He acts normally, but only until Jack tooks over control again.
Though... Rhys is acting pretty much like himself in present time, right? HJ could never be in character for so long... I think Rhys might b… moree fine. It scares me what he might have done in the past under HJ's control though which... might be what causes these tears they're talking about and what causes fallout between him and Fiona.
