Was it Faith or was it Nerissa?

I just finished the game and basing the forum it seems that everyone has been confused as to whether its Faith or Nerissa?
But for me it is Faith primarily her character is Donkeyskin which basing on her special abilities is a master of disguise.
Other thing is that when Bigby interrogated Nerissa on whether or not she has tails. She quickly replies that she has none.
The thing about Fables is that all characters retain their notable characteristics ie Colin is a pig, Mr Toad is a frog, Boffin is a ... chimera and the charms are temporary.
So if she says she doesn't have tails, it would probably indicate that she isn't a mermaid to begin with.
As for the curse of the ribbons. I think it ended as soon as Vivianne took it off. This is why Faith was brave enough to face the Crooked man, while back then she wasn't even able to mention Crane. She retains the ribbons because she still fears for it might kill her. However the male stripper no longer has the ribbon. Vivianne indicated in one of her dialogues that he too was part of the ribbon crew. But it artist probably forgot to put it in, who knows?
The other thing is that when the Mirror was asked of Faith's location and oddly the mirror refuse to show it. However the Mirror didn't even hesitate to reveal the corpse of her dad. Which also lead me to believe that Snow was in on the whole thing. You can actually see a set of pictures in the metal plant placed pictures of the ribbon girls, another picture of Snow talking to another Lady whom I would assumed is Holly. The whole series is about the rise of Women in power. If you look at it closely all the women have seemed to be competent enough to keep secrets from Faith dual identity, Snow's desire to lead, Beauty running off to work, Holly's sister pretending to be Snow and Bloody Mary's kick ass attitude. As compared to the men showing incompetence like Woodsman & Bigby tricked by Faith, the incompetence of Crane, the arrogance of Bluebeard, Colin's lazyness and so much more.
I haven't read the comics yet though!

  • We still don't know the truth.

  • Thematically, as you mentioned it makes more sense for it to be Faith.

However, logically, it makes more sense for it to be Nerissa. Georgie obviously killed who he thought was Faith (he admitted to it), why would Nerissa glamour herself to look like Faith before all the murders went down? It makes more sense for Georgie to have killed the real Faith, and Nerissa to have glamoured herself to look like Faith in the opening scene. In this scenario, Faith is dead before the series even starts. Also it's said that glamours are expensive. In the "It's Faith" scenario Faith needs 2 glamours (one for the body and one for herself, and both need to be good long term glamours cause she can't have the body or herself deglamouring during Bigby's investigation), in the "It's Nerissa" scenario Nerissa only needs one glamour and she only needs it to work for the opening scene. It makes more sense for Nerissa to be able to afford a cheap one time glamour then for Faith to somehow be paying for 2 long term glamours.

  • I personally think it was Faith, but that's me.

  • Whereas the game left it pretty ambiguous, the comic just might make it more clearer by expanding upon what actually happened. Though I guess there are good and bad sides to it, good side would be it would give a definitive answer to this question, and expanding upon the plot.

The bad side though would be it would basically spoil any chance of Telltale building upon their ending if they're planning to ever do Season 2 basing it after the end of Season 1 (or for people who just want the ending left ambiguous).

  • Or the comics wont clarify this mystery. Maybe they dont even know how Telltale want(ed) to solve this mystery. To be honest I really like the comic and all this extra information we get, but I dont want them to solve this mystery as long as Telltale wont officially refuse to make season 2. I would like to "play" this story while solving the mystery.

I have heared many people having good points for both sides, so it really is unclear which one is still alive. But I never heared anyone having the same opinion about this situation as I have. I just want Nerissa to be the "real" one because we have met her many times and got the possibility to know her. I like her character and we heared her voice many times and I would be disappointed to have a different voice and a different appearance for a character we already know in the next season.

  • Am I the only one who didn't find this ambiguous at all? It was clearly Faith. They stop just short of outright saying there was a glamour on the severed head and also bring up the missing body in The Usual Suspects audio flashback montage at the end. I've never even figured out how this is a big debate.

  • Maybe it's clear but there is still a possibility it could be Nerissa. Personally I don't know, both versions have pros and cons. It is most likely Faith but... is it?

Speaking of The Usual Suspects, I really wish Keyser Soze/Verbal Kint could be a fable in a possible Season Two :P

    One can dream, right?...

    Terrible. But couldn't resist.

  • When I first finished the game I thought it was all Bloody Mary at the end. She'd used us to take down the Crooked Man and his other cronies (her potential rivals). In other words, Narissa and Faith were both dead before we even met them.

I changed my mind after thinking about it a little, but it'd still be pretty grand.

  • It couldn't be more obvious the "Faith" we met was actually Nerissa the whole time.

  • Nobody will ever know.
