You think the deserter who got beheaded in the first season climbed the wall ?
He simply returned to castle black.He said the other 2 were killed then he deserted.He deserted after returning to Castle Black.
first - completely random question in this thread in general
second - he couldn't return to castle black after the beheading lol (his head was separated from his body and he is deader than dead *and he couldn't be resurrected by a wight or white walker because they haven't yet reached past the wall let alone winterfell where this guy was beheaded)
He returned to Castle Black after he and his two buddies faced the wights and white walkers, then he deserted Castle Black, then he got caught by Stark soldiers, then he was beheaded by Ned Stark.

Well it's weird , why would he return to castle black and then flee ? because he was frightened ? It's weird but i'll take it .
Anyway , We don't know yet what the north grove is , perhaps he'll still be north of the wall after the end of the episode .
Something beyond the wall will get him. Every Night's Watch Deserter has paid the price
