What if Rodrik died and his father lived?

Things would have gone a lot differently. Neither Duncan or Royland would have turned on him.. Ethan would not have to hold court to Ramsay and would be alive.. Ludd would have never been able to pull his bs on Gregor.. Gregor could decide what to do about his bastards and the North Grove.. list goes on.
Well it would certainly be interesting. In my mind I think he would've sent his younger children Ethan, Talia and Ryon away to be fostered by other houses to avoid them becoming hostages to Ludd. I think Gared would have been sent to find the North Grove. He may also have tried a peaceful approach and offered to wed his now first in line to the Lordship son Asher to Gwyn Whitehill. However I doubt this would have worked as I don't think Ludd would be willing to accept this. So I think he would've tried to marry off Mira to gain the alliance of another house. Tried to arrange a marriage between Asher and Eleana Glenmore. I also think he would've betrothed his younger children to the houses he sent them to be fostered at. So potentially he would have the allegiance of at least 2 houses, secured through the marriages. Five altogether, 3 of those secured by betrothals. While this all seems pretty straight forward, I imagine there would be some difficulties along the way.
But in all seriousness... it's hard to say. Some say Ludd wouldn't be so bold, but I disagree. What kept the Whitehills from messing with the Forresters before the start of the game, is the fact they had the backing of House Stark, and a considerable force of their own. Even with Rodrik gone and Gregor alive, that is still the case. So whatever would've befell House Forrester in that theoretical circumstance -- it wouldn't have been good. Especially if Gregor had similar injuries to Rodrik at his age -- especially when considering how easily he fell against the Freys. I doubt Gregor would have coped as well, both physically and mentally, but that's just my opinion. His death was necessary for the plot, just like Ned Stark's was for Season 1, and it's hard--at least it is for me--to imagine a role for them had they survived.
Where did people get the idea that Gregor's some sort of perfect being that prevents anything bad from happening?
Exactly what I was thinking...
Wait, who said or thinks this? Are you talking about what has been said in this thread or another?
No one really. It's just he's the only one out of any of them who's actually experienced at being a lord. Plus, I think he's the oldest person we see in the entire game, except maybe Frostfinger, so he'd probably be the wisest. Damn is he actually the oldest? I started writing this post thinking I was probably wrong, and was going to go back and fix it, but I think he actually is the oldest one there.
It just bothers me when people say things like "Ludd wouldn't wage war against him" or "He would've dealt with Ramsay easily" people haven't said this word for word but they've said similar things.
I think interaction between Gregor and Gwyn would've been interesting. And seeing a rivalry dynamic with Ludd.
Btw i don't think that gregor is jesus of something. I know that if he was alive things would get bad anyway. But i would love to see his relationship with asher, elissa ecc.
HAHAH jesus, it conjures all kinds of funny images. I agree though I think it would've been interesting to see him interact with the other members of House Forester.
The Whitehills would have still had the upper hand but Gregor would be in more able condition to do something about it than what Rodrik was. I think Asher would have still come back, Gared would have still gone on his impossible journey but with more information than he had and Mira would have still had her story all the same. I could imagine that Ethan still would have been killed and Ryon would have still been taken away. But they definitely would have had more of a chance but I doubt they would have come out the other end ok, people still would have died and there would probably still be a battle at Ironrath, the Whitehills wanted what they wanted which means even if Gregor was there I don't think they would have faired any better.
Ludd would've been a prick regardless. And it's unlikely that Gregor would be in perfect condition to flaunt around and defend Ironrath. Soldier's and innocents in Ironrath might have a bit more hope than they did before. I think it'd honestly be more depressing to watch an old man be forced to watch his world fall apart, but that's just me.
Now that i am thinking about it... if lord Gregor survived Duncan/Royland would have not betrayed the Forrester. So the battle of ironrath could have an happy ending!
That's exactly what I said in my post lol... but ya it was apparent that everyone in Ironrath had a lot of respect for Gregor. Plus the small folk wouldn't be so pissed about Gregor "leaving them to rot".
