Asher or Rodrik ?

Well... I've seen alot of you have chosen to save Rodrik. Why u did this ? Personally i took Asher because he is the whole family of Beshka as she said in that case if u let Asher to die + Asher is a better fighter than Rodrik , as he said : "My father never trained me to be a lord. This was supposed to be Rodrik's sword! **But I was trained to fight. **" and i need good fighters to take back Ironrath. Also i rly wanted a change in landscape (if you know what I mean) , if i have chosen Rodrik all would be the same as the first day when Rodrik became the lord of the house.

  • On the contrary, it seems most people picked Asher to survive.

I picked Asher to survive. To me, it just made by far the most sense, and have explained my reasons as to why multiple times.

Don't be fooled by the sudden surge of Rodrik fans on here as of late. Asher is the most saved brother, always has been. Only look at the Steam Forums or the Facebook and Youtube comment sections, they are all very, very pro-Asher and anti-Rodrik. Or watch a Let's Play -- 9/10 of them save Asher. Or just look at the statistics of the choice. 60% odd or whatever it is, in his favor now. Which to be honest, feels higher.

I mean I understand why. Rodrik is a cripple! The army won't follow him! Asher is a better fighter!

Except none of that is actually true. Rodrik is recovered by the time of Episode 5. And as I've said since the day Episode 5 released, Rodrik will subdue the Pit Fighters into obedience, and he does. And Asher "being a better fighter", which you yourself claim, is conjecture. Common conjecture, but conjecture all the same. If evidence and the game's canon pushes towards either brother being the better combatant, it's Rodrik.

After all, he survived the Red Wedding and the War of the Five Kings. And yes, he and Asher fight exactly the same in the "stay behind" sequence... except Rodrik survives longer, able to look up and see Gryff by which point Asher is already dead. Plus, Rodrik doesn't panic like Asher does when grabbed by the Whitehills, and Rodrik has just recovered from his fatal injuries, making his feats all the more stand-out and impressive. I've always said, Rodrik and Asher are equal in terms of combat skill, however Rodrik's edge in pure toughness and endurance is what makes him the better overall fighter. After all, Rodrik gets stabbed and shot in the fight with Gryff, but simply sprints ALL THE WAY BACK TO IRONRATH and fights on like they were scratches, whereas Asher gets a stab in the side, and is severely handicapped as a result.

Not to mention, Rodrik's version of the Ice Dragon is far more epic and thematic and action-oriented. And it doesn't make the Forresters as dishonorable as the Whitehills. I don't want a mildly tense conversation with the Whitehills at the gate, I want an immediate assault. I don't want to invite them into Ironrath and ambush them like a Frey, I'd much rather take the fight to them, make Gryff cry in the mud, and then rip his head off. I mean, I could go on forever, but for once, I think I'll stop myself. If you're that interested, look around, my posts for this sort of thing are all over the place :P I think 50% of all my comments are related to the Asher-Rodrik choice. But my take-away message is the same as it's been since day 1--they are both great characters, and you can scarcely go wrong with either of them. But far as I'm concerned, saving Rodrik is the best choice (NOT THE RIGHT CHOICE, there are no right choices), and I've never found an argument that's made me doubt that.

  • I liked Asher's story in episode 6 more than Rodrik's, but the only part I did indeed not like was the ambush or poison part. Granted, the Whitehills didn't leave us with much choice but to invite them in.
