  • The girl on the radio is voiced by Cissy Jones, the voice of Katjaa, Shel, Brie, Dee, and Jolene in TWDG. :) Just thought I should point that out (if it hasn't been already).

  • Yes but we don't know if there will be multiple branching choices, replay value, or it was just being rushed through.

  • Definitely putting this on my game radar. That voice acting is absolutely fantastic and I'm loving the art style as well.

  • Thats good actually. I remember Alien Isolation lasts 15-20H And it was Way to Long for this type of a Game. 6h is Way better.

  • It'll probably be 40+ hours for me, since I have a shit sense of direction.

(Seriously, 90% of the Witcher III for me was on a horse, until I got most of the important fast travels.)

  • Keep in mind that the playtime doesn't tell the whole story. Replayability, price. and of course, the quality of those 6 hours are important factors.

Like, Undertale was hailed by many as the best game of 2016, and it had an average playtime of 6.5 hours. But its only $10, what's there is really good, and its rewarding to replay it.

  • For roughly two years of dev time with a small team, its not that short. I just took a look at a few indie titles on howlongtobeat.com, and it seems like 9 hours is the average. So Firewatch is slightly on the low side. Which is understandable given how much content you're going to miss on a single playthrough.

Quality over quantity. I'd rather have an amazing 6 hour game than a boring 20 hour game. But I will admit, considering how long they've been working on it, I am a bit shocked it's that short.

  • i think it is about 6 hours if you always take the critical path and sort of power through it (that is how long it takes a developer to complete it) so maybe 7-8 for a first time player wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

but i am happy it is this long, from what i have heard about the game i always thought i could complete it in one day easily and i will find a long day when i can (and want to) do that, some games can be too long (people have said this about alien isolation) and that doesn't make the game better, i really disagree with people who equate game hours to worth, i just don't think it works like that.

sure some games can seem to short, but i really think it depends on the type of game, i remember completing splinter cell conviction in like 6 hours and being so pissed i took the game back the next day, but it wasn't literally because it was short that it was disappointing, it was because a tactical stealth game like this should take skill planning and tactics (which should take time, especially on the first playthrough), but i could essentially just mark and execute the "hard" parts and it just made it easy.

this game is going to be very story driven, there isn't going to be the need to scope out an open world and plan an attack, and there isn't going to be a time we have to kill at least 50 more bad guys so you can afford an upgrade, and there isn't going to be a bunch of turret sections, this is going to be a tight story where it should make sense that the game lasts how long it does.

to be honest if they said the game was going to be 15+ hours, then i would have been a bit miffed or worried.

The good news though is that if you are a PlayStation Plus member, you'll be able to buy the game at launch and get the 10% off deal on PlayStation 4 too.

So you get the benefit of pre-ordering without having to have a game tied to your account that you won't be able to play for a week. ;)

It's here if you're curious: Firewatch: hope and heartbreak in the American wilderness

  • Don't have the cash right now, so I can't preorder, but I will be getting it this month.

    Short answer: No :(

Im wondering how/where to pre order it on PS4? Sorry I just got a PS4, still learning the ropes.

They said on their blog post that you will be able to purchase it on release day.

On PlayStation Network, you can buy the game on release day, and PlayStation Plus members will get 10% off! We’ve developed a super-snazzy PS4 theme, and that will be available separately or in a discounted bundle with the game.

  • Anyone else feel like they have no idea what this game could possibly be and turn into because for some reason even though they gave IGN like 30min of the first part I still feel like I have zero idea what im getting myself into but at the same time I love it.

  • Why does this game have so much hype?

  • It's from the writers/designers of Walking Dead: Season 1, and also has some talented team members outside of Telltale Alumni as well.

Well, I hope it is good.

The hype is going to be to such a degree that if it doesn't deliver then people won't be happy.

  • From the first 35 minutes ive seen it looks like i should deliver at least partly. I'm pleased with the beginning.

  • I just don't want the game to get overhyped to such a degree that it suffers like FO4 or Undertale is currently.

Well, FO4 had a shit ton of issues that made it kinda disappointing in itself. Get pass that and you have a alright game. Though, the fanbase might be ruining Undertale lol.

  • This game doesn't nearly have as much hype as those two so there's nothing really to be worried about if that's how you see things. In addition, pretty sure Undertale only got hyped when it actually got released.
