Very disappointed in Telltale

It's been a year since S1 and then there's E3.

You'd have thought they would have news about Season 2 right?

Only about The Walking Dead S3 and the Batman game and others, but Game of Thrones S2 was the absent one.

AND Game Of Thrones Season 6 is almost done!

How do you feel about this?

They are working on several games. And if i'm not mistaken ep 6 was released mid november last year, so not a hole year has gone by. I'm personally not looking forward to it that much. And even if it had been 1 year, that is nothing in the gaming industry. Maybe late 2017 or early 2018.

  • Game of Thrones ended in November, it's been 7 months, calm down. Besides, we've had to wait a hell of a lot longer for other games. It took 13 months between Season 1 and Season 2 of TWD, and it's going to be well over 2 years between Season 2 and Season 3, so you really have no right to be complaining.

And of course they talked about Batman and TWD, because those games are near completion and almost ready to be released, while GOT is still being worked on, and thus, have nothing newsworthy to talk about. Just because a game is confirmed does not mean that it is close to release. Telltale confirmed last year they would be making a Marvel game, but said that it wouldn't be ready until 2017.

  • Wait, its November again already? Gosh, I swear, these years are feeling like 7 months now!

  • It's usually a long while until we get any major news on a new Telltale game. As others have said, it's only been since last November, and lots of Telltale games have gone on for longer without any major updates on the game after the announcement. We can expect more news closer to whenever the game launches, but since Telltale's games are story based, they can't give too many spoilers in advance. We have a Pre-Season news thread you can check for updates on Season 2, or you can also follow this other thread linked below for general updates on Telltale's future games:

  • My guess is that you will hear an update by September seeing as how Telltale plans to treat Game of Thrones as they would a tv season, meaning it is possible for GOT S2 to debut the first episode late 2016 ( probably december).

Telltale said that about Marvel game though. They never said that about the GoT game. They just did an interview the day after the finale released and said a second season had already started development. I think the point is that it was announced right away and there has been not a peep out of them since that interview. It's already highly unusual to announce a second season was in development that quickly and for Job to have amnesia regarding that game it's basically a confirmation that it won't be releasing in 2016.

One more thing. Game of Thrones Season Two was announced BEFORE Batman. We first heard about Batman in December and they said Game of Thrones Season Two was in development in November. So I'm not really sure what youre talking about when you say of course theyre going to talk about Batman.

The First time they talked about Batman was at E3.

I just want an update about Season 2, anything at all, it's been 8 months already.

They announced a Season 2 of Walking Dead during the first Season's second episode. They can announce projects ahead of time, but that does not necessarily entail each and every announced project being in development at the time of its announcement. They probably have a moderately small team of writers planning out the more specific and intricate parts of Season 2's story, but I don't think that they have a full on dedicated team yet. Telltale are sized at around 350-400 people, and have enough people to work on 3-4 series at once. As of currently, I am guessing that is Minecraft, Season 3, Batman, and something for 2017 - possibly the Marvel series.

It was already in development before he, THE CEO, announced it. He wouldn't have said "I'm proud to announce that its currently in development" the day after the finale was released if it wasn't already in development, they don't make those decisions in the span of 24 hours. Either way, it was in development while they were developing the finale, and considering it took 4 months to come out I'd say that's pretty likely. And since you don't have inside knowledge I would appreciate it if you didn't say "oh well this is probably what happened or this is how Telltale works".

On the subject of 3-4 series at once. They do not. Don't care what you say they've never had more then 2 series at a time. (GoT and tales were on finales when Minecraft was premiering and a lot of Tales and GoT staff moved on to Minecraft afterwards) They may have enough writers to plan out 2 other series at the same time as 2 are being worked on full-time but they in know way have the staff to support 3-4 games running at once. Until we have three games premiering around the same time that is a bullshit thing for them to say. Minecraft is most likely going to be on their final episode by the time Batman premieres and it will be over by the time Season Three is premiering.

    "Currently in development"

And just a final point. I never said that it was in the "principal photography" stage. I said it was in development. Since Telltale thinks they are a television network development does not mean it's in production.

I get your point, but in that same interview, he said that development in that context can also count as pre-planning. My answer was more in lines of what games are literally in actual game development. Obviously Telltale have not have more than two or three active Seasons at once, but in several interviews with Telltale Staff members, they said that they have 3-4 teams working at different projects in different stages. In previous interviews, they mention that before they have a full team, they have a smaller amount of people planning out the earlier details of a game. In regards to what I was referring to as "pre-planning", they talk about it in the interview you linked to.

How far along in the development process is season two?

While we cannot divulge any of the specific details, we can say that Telltale's approach to game development is much more like television than most other game developers. Across all of our series — The Walking Dead, Minecraft: Story Mode and more — the development process at Telltale spends a significant amount of time upfront in the writer's rooms not just with writers, but designers, directors and creative input from all across the studio. It's not unusual for our games to exist longer on whiteboards and sticky notes and in scripts than they do in traditional game production. It's incredibly similar to how TV often spends so much time in preproduction and planning before moving into actually shooting. It's from then on that we take the live development aspect into play, observing the audience and their feedback as we adjust and build upon the experience along the way.

I don't doubt that they are planning out the story details, and as you said, I'm just guessing from an outsider perspective, albeit what I hope is a fairly educated guess since I've followed Telltale for several years prior to Walking Dead (I've picked up on things they've said in interviews over the years, etc). I just meant that, as opposed to planning out the story (which the CEO considers development), I was counting games that I assumed to be in traditional game development and not just pre-planning.

As I said shortly ago, Telltale frequently mentions having 3-4 teams working at projects in different stages. Outside of those three-four teams working in traditional game development, they also have smaller groups of people that are not necessarily a full sized official team working out the story details/general gameplay/etc. Even before Walking Dead when Telltale was much smaller, they still had around 7-8 projects announced around 2010-2012 but not all of those projects were simultaneously in traditional game development. Some were, and others were in pre-planning.

    EDIT: I think you misunderstood:

but they in know way have the staff to support 3-4 games running at once.

I was never saying that. As I said, the 3-4 teams are working on projects that are in different stages, but at the same time, those 3-4 projects are still outside of "pre-production." For example, Tales and Thrones were being developed during Wolf and Dead Season 2 even though they were not releasing all four series at once, but Tales and Thrones were in much earlier stages (and were still outside of pre-production). On top of Tales and Thrones, Telltale had other series such as Minecraft, Batman, Michonne, Walking Dead Season 3, Marvel, etc in pre-production at this time. Does that put us on the same page now?

  • There are 12 months in a year. Not 7.

  • I would say not enough money behind it to force it be coming out sooner. Plus, the first season wasn't well received.

Look at MC: Story Mode....The fucking shit has bonus episodes coming out for it lol.
