How much of the show should I watch before I play the game?

I've been told that the GoT game expects its players to have watched the show. I want to know how far into the show I need to be before I'll know everything that the game expects me to know.

If you don't wanna miss any references, when you finish Season 4, it's safe to play the game.

But otherwise, you don't have to watch it. I played it without watching the show and automatically got hooked.

  • So I could play the game right now and not be lost? I won't not know what people are talking about or have major plot points of the show spoiled to me?

  • Gotcha. Thanks.

  • I would heavily recommend you watch the show in order to truly immerse yourself in the storyline and get the most out of the game. There are many plot points that will be intricate and not as shocking if you aren't aware of the current state of the world the game is in. I believe the game begins at the end of Season 3 and finishes mid Season 4 of the show. It's truly up to you if you wish to play the game without watching yet I can tell you for a fact the tv show is one of the most acclaimed and amazing shows in television history and you might as well give it a shot before you start playing.

  • Aaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmm nothing

  • I highly recommend watching the first three seasons of the show otherwise you'll be pretty lost.

  • You won't be 'lost', like you'll understand most of what's going on. But it will ruin major plot points up until mid season 4 of the show. Like the opening scene of the game happens during a major turning point in the story. So if you want to watch the show without spoilers, absolutely do that first.

  • A question kind of like this popped up before, so here's when each episode is in relation to the show:

Episode 2 (The Lost Lords) is somewhere in-between The Rains Of Castamere (episode 9 of season 3) and The Lion And The Rose

The Lion And The Rose (season 4 episode 2) is during episode 3 (Sword in the Darkness).

First of His Name (season 4 episode 5) is during episode 4 (Sons of Winter)

and I as far as I can tell Nest Of Vipers and The Ice Dragon are just whenever.

EDIT! Nest Of Vipers is BEFORE The Children (season 4 episode 10). The Ice Dragon is still whenever.

I highly recommend watching the show first as the spoilers from the game aren't as dramatic in how they relate to the major characters.

  • I literally had never seen an episode & I still loved the game. Actually, the game is what made me start watching & now I'm obsessed with the show.

  • I never watched a episode. Still loved it. There were parts where I was confused, but not to a major degree.

  • The game sucks. Just watch the show.

  • If you don't like it why are you on its forum?

The game sucks. Just watch the show.

  • First of all, no it doesn't.

And second, if you hate it, what are you even doing here?

The game sucks. Just watch the show.

  • Oh you must mean the RPG one? That one does indeed "suck". But this game we're talking about doesn't suck. If anything those who say it sucks, suck. And you don't want to suck now, do you?

The game sucks. Just watch the show.

  • Wait, if you don't have something to say that it's relevant to the subject of this thread, then why do you even bother comment on it. If you want to discuss how much the game sucks, then make your own thread or look for a thread that its subject is how much Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series sucks. It will make our lives so much easier.

The game sucks. Just watch the show.

  • I'd suggest you watch the first four seasons of the show before starting playing the game, since many things can be spoiled to you and you'll lose the track of what things going on (at least from my experience... I played the first episode without watching the show and I couldn't understand many things, honestly).

  • This.
