Rodrik Could Have Saved Hose Forester In Episode 4

If Rodrik had ordered Arthur to kill every Whitehill soldier in the Great Hall and just left Gryff alive, then we would have won the battle of Ironrath. Gryff would be the only Whitehill in Ironrath, the moment he was set free he would have ran back to Highpoint after he was set free. Which means NO SOLDIERS=NO AMBUSH=RODRIK AND ASHER AND BEAST LIVE=VICTORY! At Ludd's camp, Rodrik/Asher would follow and kill Gryff and Ludd at the same time. House Forrester would have won the war if Rodrik had killed everybody except Gryff.

  • In reality the Boltons would've wiped them out.

  • Roose wouldn't let the Forresters die, they want the Ironwood, remember? Plus with how the timeline in the show, the Boltons would be getting ready to take back the fort from the Ironborn or preparing for Stannis Baratheon's army.

  • Yeah and I imagine they'd rely on the Whitehills for Ironwood despite the Forresters being better at it. No Warden would tolerate this from one of their Vassals.

  • Killing the entire garrison might have the worse decision. Although I personally wanted to execute the entire garrison, I can see that keeping them hostage would keep the Whitehills from attacking, since the soldiers might have brothers in the army or their family would hate Ludd for risking their sons lives.

By killing them all, the Whitehills would have more motivation to attack and besiege Ironrath and nothing keeps Ludd from holding back.

Well seeing how season 1 ended I'd say killing the whole garrison would have been a good idea. Ludd would have attacked Ironrath with his entire army either way. With Gryff and Hayrs dead, Asher and Rodrik could have worked together to kill Ludd, and they would've a lot faster with no Gryff or Hayrs in the way. Don't you agree? Besides why would Ludd hold back at all? He's trying to kill an entire House, why would he ever hold back?

Well it probably would have been a lot better if he had ordered Harys dead and kept everyone else alive.

With Harys dead then Asher/Rodrik could have managed to kill Ludd/Gryff because no one would have gotten in the way to save them and then in turn Erik/Bowen/Lady Forrester would have survived because they wouldn't have tried to save Asher/Rodrik because they wouldn't need to.

  • Yup it didn't really make sense to leave all the other soldiers alive. I picked "kill anyone that moves" but I should've specified "kill every fucking Whitehill".

What is even worse is that the traitor didn't have to release the whole garrison either. He could've released only Gryff and it would be the same scenario that you mentioned.

  • You have a point. But keeping the soldiers hostage does make sense strategically speaking, the war was practically over, but there were these two elements: Ramsay's second visit AND the traitor.

  • Why do you assume it's the same men in the ambush? I mean maybe it's the case (I don't recall it exactly) but that would mean Asher's men and Rodrik's men were defeated by 20 (good) men.

  • Agree, killing Harys should have existed

  • Yeah, you're right.

  • I don't know if it would've gone over well with Ramsey, since he ordered the Garrison there. So if he shows up and finds all 20 dead then all bets are out the window at that point.
