I played through Game of Thrones multiple times. I think im completely resistent against the engine. But Batman is, on a technicle standpoint, the best looking telltale game. Sure, those old people look shitty, but the other character models look better than ever. I'm happy with it.
I can't stand any of the character models except Bruce/Batman and Oz. Not saying they're bad but I personally don't like the style they used this go around. Which is unfortunate cause it's batman.
Bale's voice was stupid allright, but that was his problem. Possibly because of that they decided to use that voice modulator on the Dark Kn… moreight. I find both stupid.
If you are saying that Keaton's voice was stupid, well, it's the first time I've heard anything like that. You also think Kevin Conroy's voice on animated Batman is also stupid? Or in the Arkham game series?
Anyway, I find silly using a voice changer mostly beacuse it feels totally unnecessary, and also inaccurate if you think of the comic books.
I'm definitely going to hold off on refunding it, so maybe. I think a lot of the problems that I have with it currently related to the artstyle/graphics are going to go unsolved, but it still has plenty of time to woo me over.
i dont know whats your problem with this first episode, i just finished it and i loved it! the story, the combat, at first i had a few probl… moreems with my pc, i had to lower the graphics but other than that, i think you are overreacting a little bit with your complains, maybe you'll like the next episode
I think it becomes more than subjective in a few places related to the graphics, but yeah, a lot of this is just my opinion and I won't try to deny that.
The money lost isn't a problem for me. I could've gone for a steam refund, but decided to hold on to it and give the next few episodes a chance. Thanks for looking out, though.
You are right about one thing, this does seem like a stream of consciousness. I'd try to take your statements objectively, but I can't becau… morese many of them are subjective, and even those which ARE objective(like the recycled animation and other things you mentioned) are, in regards to the negative impact they have to such things as immersion or enjoyment, subjective. As in, I might agree that the graphics are not as improved as they should, but not that it's as bad(if at all) for everyone else as it is for you.
My own opinion, I really really liked Episode 1, I could go into detail as to why that is but that's besides the point.
The point is, most of your critics and concerns are subjective, which is not bad in and of itself since after all, video games' values are defined by how much people enjoyed it and how many of them did, but if you try to pass it off as anything more than "My personal experience" then I'd have to disagree with yo… [view original content]
It's definitely still stupid that without doing anything you get scolded, but I noticed with my asshole-playthrough that if you go all out at the henchman (punch him, beat him with the pipe and break his arm) Alfred doesn't say "beat half to death", he says "nearly killed a man". So I suppose those are the two ways that scene can go. Obviously there should be a third one for not using violence at all. Who knows, maybe there even is but there's just a glitch.
About the codex thing: Same for me, but it didn't affect the story as my quote was still played in the news.
Didn't do a damn thing to that henchman and I got scolded by Alfred. I was super pissed TT left something like this in. Considering that it'… mores a major choice at the end in the episode. Really hurt me liking the game. Then I read the codex on Viki Vale after I gave a quote to her. It said I didn't, which made matters worse for my opinion of this episode. Ugh I hate when crap like this happens.
I played through Game of Thrones multiple times. I think im completely resistent against the engine. But Batman is, on a technicle standpoin… moret, the best looking telltale game. Sure, those old people look shitty, but the other character models look better than ever. I'm happy with it.
1: Getting scolded by Alfred for beating a man half to death while I only broke his arm, Bruce even showing remorse for doing it.
2: The news claiming that I welcomed Falcone with open arms at the party while I deliberately did EVERYTHING to piss him off and show to the rest of the guests I wanted nothing to do with him.
Got no problem with the rest of the episode, but those two things pissed me off.
As a general rule I hold off on complaining about the illusion of choice until two things happen:
You play through it twice. The second playthrough should be an "opposite" playthrough, where you make all of the decisions you wouldn't have normally in your original playthrough. There have been episodes where I think to myself "this can't be much different based on my choices" only to be pleasantly surprised by an unexpected change in the story. TFTBL Episode 3 is a good example (I realized I could actually talk to Vaughn).
There is more than one episode out. The first episode more or less needs to restrict the impact of choice to create a solid foundation for the rest of the game's story. I always give the first episode a pass on this front. Though I agree, basic reactions of other characters to your actions should still be tailored.
The news claiming that I welcomed Falcone with open arms at the party while I deliberately did EVERYTHING to piss him off and show to the rest of the guests I wanted nothing to do with him.

I don't know which system you played this on but this is by far the best looking telltale game (on pc). I also don't see a problem with Falc… moreone's line, the guy is a dick with a huge ego. The only thing that made me cringe is when batman said to catwoman "I'm going to put you in a cage" or something. That was very awkward lol.

Yeah its funny. The game took at least a year to make. Maybe more. It's ridiculous to suggest something else. This poor guy doesn't know what a rushed tt game is like.
The news claiming that I welcomed Falcone with open arms at the party while I deliberately did EVERYTHING to piss him off and show to the rest of the guests I wanted nothing to do with him.
Well, you know, that's just media being media.
I wouldn't say it's daft at all, really. Nevermind people being able able to recognise his voice, voice analysers are a thing, aren't they? Get his voice recorded, analysed, and then . . . yeah, goodbye his identity not being known.
Thing that most bothered me was Batman's "voice", I mean, why the stupid voice changer thingy? It was embarrasing enough in the Batfleck movie, but c'mon telltale, you too? Batman never needed such a silly thing for being scary...
So mainly you complain about graphics, when the TTG games are about story?
Yes, the graphics have been and are still rather bad. But it's no retro stuff or minecraft, so I'm okay with it.
Yes, the story and the dialogue aren't perfect, but I was fine with it.
Yes, I also had the same thing with Alfred and telling me that I've beaten the guy half dead, while Gordon noticed my non violent approach. Makes no sense. It's a bug.
I can't understand how some minor issues like these make Batman the worst TTG game ever! Sorry, that's not what you said. Actually you just said that compared to The Wolf Among Us it's not as good. So you have played 2 TTG games? Is this some kind of competition for the worlds greatest drama queen?
Yes, the graphics have been and are still rather bad. But it's no retro stuff or minecraft, so I'm okay with it.
We'll disagree there. At least Minecraft has a coherent, retro style. The graphics in this game specifically just look like a blurry mess, moreso than in the past few titles. It isn't easy for me to write off a game looking blatantly ugly.
Yes, the story and the dialogue aren't perfect, but I was fine with it.
It bothers me that the story and dialogue are meh quality because, well, that's the point of a game with minimal gameplay and subpar graphics. Why else should I be enjoying it?

A mediocre story, awkward dialogue, bad graphics, and occurrences that dramatically contradict the decisions I made are "minor"? All of the other Telltale games didn't have problems this glaring in the first episode.
So you have played 2 TTG games? Is this some kind of competition for the worlds greatest drama queen?
I've played The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead Season 2, The Wolf Among Us, Tales From The Borderlands, Batman, all three seasons of Sam and Max, Poker Night 1 and 2, and Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. So uh, like you said, 2 Telltale games. lol.
Is this a joke?

I can't help but groan when someone complains about the graphics... This is telltales style. Games based on comic books, with a comic book feel about them. That's why the graphics in Batman are similar to those in TWD and TWAU, and not as polished as those in GoT or TFTB
No, that isn't a joke title, but I can get why you might think that it is. There are apparently very few that agree with me. This is going to seem like a bit of a stream-of-consciousness rant, so bear with me.
The graphics are horrendous. The engine should be taken out back and shot, fans and critics have been saying this for years, but that isn't even the problem. How did Telltale go from casually throwing around characters that looked like this back in 2013 and 2014...
see my previous reply re:graphics
... to using characters that look like this, years later? Shouldn't they be improving?
enter image description here
Seriously. There's also an ABUNDANCE of blurry objects and floors/walls, but the fact that fairly important characters look so poorly textured is just bizarre.
Telltale games aren't exactly renowned for their polish, but this one is seriously out of hand. The cuts between scenes are jarring. The dialogue can get very cliche and cheesy, and not in an endearing way; I heard the kind of one liners that you might expect from a children's TV show. Sound effects, like groups of people gasping or applauding, seem very plastic and forced whenever they're used. And for once, even some of the voice acting made me cringe; here's an example of delivery that left a bad taste in my mouth. Very stiff.
seriously? They've got the A listers of voice acting in this, Triy as Batman f**king nailed both sides of that role. I didn't think I'd like this anywhere near as much as Nolans trilogy. So far I'm liking it more. As for cringeworthy dialogue. Yeah, that's Batman mate. He's been saying that crap for 70 years
It even bears some strange similarities to past games, like TWAU; remember the scene with Alfred at the beginning? Picking glass out of his Bruce, much like Swineheart picking bullets out of Bigby, while having the same exact talk about how they should use more caution, and how "sometimes the city need a monster"? That, on top of the abundance of reused animations that I'm accustomed to seeing from Telltale games, is giving the impression that Telltale isn't branching out in the way that they should be. Their work is starting to feel stale, uninspired, like everything's just blurring together at this point. It murders immersion. Can they really not afford to create newer assets?
Urm. 2 characters got injured. What you you want Alfred to do? Leave him to bleed? Just because another character was treated after an injury 2 years ago? Alfred treating Bruce is canon to the story. No similarities to what happened to Bigby at all, other than they were both hurt. The dialogue and settings were utterly utterly different.
as for the city needs a monster? That's a common theme in Batman. And Daredevil, and... Well, actually any story that has vigilante justice as its theme.
And at the end, despite doing nothing more than twisting that one henchman's arm a little, Alfred says that I "beat him half to death", scolds me, and Bruce expresses guilt. I remember reading somewhere on here that choices really seemed like they mattered this time, but I have no idea why anyone would say that. This is weakest Telltale's illusion of choice has ever been. They SERIOUSLY dropped the ball.
Yeah. That's a glitch. Easy to tell its a glitch as you're playing it. Not the first in TT have had, doubt it'll be the last. Annoying, yes, makes this the worst game! Jesus, no.
Overall, disappointed. Instead of the innovation that I saw from TWD games, or TWAU, or TFTB, I had an experience that's best described as generic. If you disagree or want to add anything, I'd be happy to watch you guys discuss things below.
Actually, the only innovation I saw in the TWD games was in the first one. They changed the story half way through season 2, and it was obvious, it felt more like they wanted cheap shock value than real emotive story telling (Luke) Just like how they changed the story for TWAU after the first episode, and NOTHING from the trailer for episode 2 was in the episode. It had all been re written and reanimated. As for Michonne... That was just plain bad. The only enjoyable part was the title sequence.
I didn't think the graphics were really bad. I get the blurry objects and reused character models but that seems to be a recurring problem with Telltale games. I'm surprised you didn't even bring.up the uninvolving action sequences that go on even.if you don't press the button prompts.

this port was butter bad but i fanlly say the mac port on the https://steamdb.info/. that will be interesting at lest.
i do knew this my mac is serparity for games tune my windows in, lets hope telltale did not do to mush crazy stuff that will over tex high in hardware. and try to keep it low graphics in this high in mac systems.
but this batman game is not bad, I really like the game. i played 4 hours with out any issels. but it take me over 10 hours of beg fixing. at the end it was worth every saga of my time. but i will have to agree with some users is that. It is somewhat a lite down compared to the TWD series and TFTBL. base on story and choose which is a downgrade however it is just the 1st episode. so how shold i knew.
ill give telltale one advise of known in the TWD season 1 series, is every delog gives you different responses from that game. that is not really that case in this batman game. every delog you choose. That person sues the same thing it petty mush difference the purpose. of choose your matters, bit ill give telltale some good feedback choosing vile and that cop. does make some difference. even other characters react to batman differently of how aggressive who he is or not. great job telltale ill give you the thumbs for that.
but only one game which tune this is telltale GOT. ( even thew i played over 100 hours that is not my sort of thing).
i will make this clear i do not hate game of thrones
Well,Mike of AVGN fame completly agrees in his review! He called it the "worst Batman game ever" and called the voice acting"terrible". while I don't agree with either of you. This appears to be the general thoughts of Batman a TTG fans alike. For the record folks this is ep1, not the complete game. Why all the hate? Lately I'm just confused by all of it! The bugs and unplayable on pc I get,but what I saw was "meh"at worst.

I completely agree, however they showed the fragment where Falcone was trying to shake my hand and I refused to. That just contradicted to what they were claiming. Just thought that those two things didn't fit together.

To be fair, considering that comic book dialogue is text, anything voice related isn't really an issue to begin with.

of heald all kinds of nice soundtracks but this is one of the greatest of his work.
Don't really understand. Are you saying that it's the first Telltale game he's done, or that it's the first one he's done with good music?

jared emerson-johnson done all kinds of good songs sense 2006. this telltale batman series and the wolf among us are my fives for it's dark moments .
baselly i'm saying this is one of his bitter songs he made with telltale.
