Telltale, fix your game please.

You know I was waiting for this game a lot. And yes, the game came out and I started to download it. Me and my gilrfriend were ready to enjoy the story and then 40 fps in the menu and 10 fps in the game. "Okay, I know what's the problem." I thought. I chose the high process in Nvidia panel. Here it is 60 fps in the menu, lets start the game! 24, 34,15,20,13,30 fps. These drops made game really unplayable. We were waiting for patches. 1st patch - nothing changed. We were waiting for new patches, but there were none, so I bite the bullet and finish 1st episode.

Last week I wrote to the Telltale techical support. I knew that they probobly won't help to fix the game, but I though I show them the problem and may be help to solve it.

Well, after the first message I did everything they said: install support tool send the file. They said computer meets minimum requrenments and ask me to update the drivers and choose Nvidia videocard, but I had done it in the first place. I send them videous of gameplay in two resolutions 1360x768 and 800x600 to show that drops occurs in all resolutions and at the same places. They answered that they do not support GT*** (M) series videocards, and they could not guarantee that the game probobly won't run as expected, and future updatates might help.

I just want to say that I expected to hear smth like "thanks for a reporting a problem, we will try to solve this problem", but after the answer I got, I really felt that Telltale does not care. Not only I play on the laptop with GT ***(M) series videocard, a lot of my friends do and they also have problems. Many people with regular PC have problems, even PS4 has fps drops to 20.

The game really has problems, because when Steam version of the game advise you to buy Wolf amoung Us in PS store - you cannot really talk about optimization at all.

I do not want to anger or hate Telltale, I just want to make next episodes without these horrible drops and technical problems. I just hope Telltale will help its fans to enjoy their game.

Episode 2 is likely going to come with a patch that should fix any tech issues the game is having on Laptops or slightly lower end PC's, so hopefully that ends up happening next week.

I'm curious, what are your system specs? I use an M-series video card too but I haven't had any frame rate drops below 24 FPS. Anyway now I'm incredibly pissed at Telltale for not supporting M-series cards. Considering their attempts to help laptop owners at the game's release it almost sounds like they've dropped support for them, which is simply pathetic.

EDIT: Ok, since posting this I've been in contact with Telltale Support, and I'd just like to correct myself. They haven't dropped support for laptops, but they do not support cards that either either only GT cards or only M-series. This is what they said:

"by M lines, we are referring to cards that are the standard GeForce series in laptops, such as GeForce 910M, GeForce 840M and so on. Please note how only M is in the model name. Following this, there are lines with GT in the name, such as GeForce GT 750M. Lines with only GT and M in the model name usually do not meet the requirements to run the game, and as such, we strongly advise against attempting to play the game on systems with these card lines... Even if you have a laptop, a GTX line is usually supported due to how this card is manufactured for both laptop and desktop versions. Because of this, we strongly recommend card models with GTX and GTS in the name."

Basically, they still support GTX/GTS ***M cards, so laptop users can chill as long as the card isn't a GT ***M card.

Yes, that's true. I just did not know that GTS and GTX also might have M, so it's my mistake. Anyway, I just wanted to say that Telltale did not want to optimaze the game for this type of card. The game had a problem anyway, and it is proven. (I don't know if new update patch them up, because it hasn't release yet) I just think it is possible to play the game in this card(epecially after I got the answer that my system meets the requerements at first) , but may be it is not. I just wanted to help them to solve the problem, but I had a strong feeling that they did not need my help.
Despite of that, I want to sorry for this missunderstanding with M series instead of GT ***M.

  • No patch in episode two. Waste of money.

Can I still apply for a refund? I was assured that Telltale were working hard on a fix; none has come within almost two months of the game's release...

  • Episode 2 is a much better running episode. 80% of my experience was above 30, but those damn alleyways dropped me all the way down to 20, and mayor hill's place was weirdly inconsistent as Bruce, but at least its not as broken as episode 1.

  • Good news, the episode definitely ran better for Episode 2 then it did for Episode 1, I got over 30 FPS this time around. Bad news, it's still pretty bad, so bad that I still won't even try to record gameplay for it and I'm still getting those weird black lines on stuff like the Batmobile and the walls.

  • Same.
Not lagging so much. It gives arond 20 to 30 fps, sometimes had 40-50. But I still can't play full screen. Still, the game works better and I hope Telltale will continue work on this...

  • I noticed that I had some performance improvements on my end this episode as well (played on PC). Nothing extreme, but definitely notable.

Have you've tried setting your desktop resolution to whatever resolution you want in game? That's how I was able to switch between resolutions, its tedious as fuck, but I'm happy that I can play the game above 15 FPS and not have to see my desktop as I play.

  • Episode 2 crashed twice for me (PS4), and some choices were wrong, for example I chose to not hurt Falcone in episode 1 but the game says that I did.

  • May be it will work, cos I am able to open full screen at 1980 x 1080. Thanks, will try

  • I don't know about second episode, but there's a video in the internet that shows that Batman telltale gives around 30 fps on PS4 with drops to 20. Hope Telltale will fix the game for everybody.

  • First episode still lagging as hell. It's hard when you have to push the button 3 times before it works.

  • That's true. Fps much more stable.

Well because there isn't another bug thread I guess I'll type this here. TT there's an issue with UI color change once you restart episode 2 on PS4. I picked yellow and it's changed to blue. Please release a patch to fix this please. On and my choices from the previous episode are forgotten, WTF now I have to replay episode 1 again for my choices to register. FIX YOUR GAME!!

  • Episode on PS4 needs a patch update. I noticed that during the flashback sequence with Bruce's Parent's murder that parts of the screen would go black and cover the characters and the background. Also, during the scene which shows Penguin's mother and Bruce's father, the character render models were off and they were pointy and jagged.
Am I the only one who had this problem?

  • The models I think were intentionally blurry in the footage since it was video from over 30 years ago on a shit security cam.

  • They're not really blurry, you can see pretty clearly three of the models look like terribly rendered PS1 character models and they're extremely inconsistent with the look of the rest of the game, I found that to be extremely sloppy on TT's part.

  • It reaches 60fps in some scenes on PS4. Most notably when you are walking through the precient with Harvey.

  • I know. I think when you have 60 fps, I've got around 40.

  • Whatever the "update" (PS4) was, all it did was cause me problems.

It's almost as large as chapter 2, so I thought on the (hahano) chance that they had somehow left stuff out of the chapter. All it did was break chapter 2.

The frame rate bounces back and forth like a car with no suspension on a road made of potholes.
Martha Wayne has no torso when she walks out of the theater at the beginning.
Aaaaaaaand the game always crashes when it tries to progress to the second scene (after Memory Martha's House of Horrors).

I probably won't be buying the rest of the episodes.
I enjoyed chapter 1, but got frustrated when I replayed chapter 2 and it didn't remember my choices from chapter 1. And now this, after taking the time in order to replay chapter 1.

At least chapter 2 wasn't that long, so I could finish it in under an hour. Oh, no, wait...that's not good either.

  • i know what you mean the ps 3 version of batman ttg just erase my episode progress the need to fix the problem

  • Episode 2 seems to work fine too me. Maybe its just you guys.

  • In PC models while video are also pointy like models in PS1. So it's not problem only on PS4.

  • This already is their updated engine. The game runs slower because they added new features on the back end, but I imagine performance will be improved for future titles.

Technically their first game running on the newly updated engine; still, though, you are correct that optimizations for future titles are possible and very likely.

  • i downloaded the game for my ipad air 2 and it runs rather slow. so slow i often miss to swipe on time when fighting and the game also got very long loading times in between. i often got the black loading screen with the white batman logo flickering and it can take up to some minutes. i find that strange cause the game only uses like 2/3 of the ipad's display screen.

first i thought it was connected to my last ios update to ios10 so i decided today to reset the ipad and install ios again. now i use a plain ios10 with the game but it didnt help.

i hope for an update, i have the impression that the game was rushed for release and the programming team did not have enough time to properly finish it.

  • I actually meant TWD S3 with that. I forgot a sentence there. Ups.
