Could Troy Baker be The Joker?

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a request for The Joker to appear in the first season of Telltale's Batman. There's a time and place for everything. It's just speculation about what the future could hold.

Please check out the video below before you read the rest of this post.

With Troy Baker already on board as Bruce Wayne, it's VERY possible Telltale would try to kill two birds with one stone by having him double-bill as The Joker as well. There's something really twisted about the idea of using the same voice actor for Batman and his ultimate enemy.

On the other hand, there's also Jeff Bennett, one of the less conventional Joker voices I've ever heard:

As it's pointed out in the video, Jeff hasn't really been given a chance to go full-tilt with his take on the character. Maybe Telltale could give him that chance.

  • I hope we don't see the Joker at all. He's overused.

I think Telltale should allow other villains to have their chance to shine.

  • Absolutely never? Not once in the entire Telltale series, even if there were ten whole seasons? I think that's overdoing it a tad.

Yes. Even if there were 73,587,352 seasons of Batman, which isn't gonna happen, I wouldn't want the Joker to appear.

I swear, people only like Batman-related stuff if the Joker is in it.

Okay, now you really are overreacting. The Joker might have too much exposure right now, but there's a good reason: He's a terrific character. Granted, he's been badly written/performed in the past, but I have more faith in Telltale than I do for other productions that are using him right now. I'm all for Telltale keeping him in the shadows for a period of time so other villains can get some breathing room, but shelving him entirely just because of a vocal online minority isn't fair for the fans who actually want to see The Joker turn up later on.

If you hate The Joker so much, just stay away from threads that want to talk about him.

I know he is. He's my favorite Batman villain (and favorite comic book villain in general). He really deserves the loves he gets, but I like other Batman rogues too. They need their time to shine.

I never said I hated him. I'm just saying he's overused.

Uh...by saying the Joker should never appear in over 73,587,352 seasons of Batman? I don't know what you call it, but to everyone else, it's called overreacting.

Yes, and The Joker should be kept on reserve for a while for exactly that reason. But keeping him banned from ever participating in the series is unfair for the people who want the thrill of challenging The Joker in the Telltale format.

And shelving other villains just so the Joker can appear isn't?

Marching the straw man arguments out already, I see.

I never said the rest of Batman's rogue gallery should be shelved. I'm all for seeing Poison Ivy, or Man-Bat, or even Clayface turn up in the Telltale series. But if Telltale can devise a unique new spin on the character while also organically incorporating him into the story, screaming "OVEREXPOSED!!" at the top of your lungs over and over again will just strike everybody else as obnoxious.

I never said I hated him. I'm just saying he's overused.

You flat-out said you don't want The Joker to appear in the Telltale series, ever. Period. Full stop. That's what hate is, A.G.

  • I'd rather the Joker didn't make an appearance in Season 1 at least.

That character is used too much as it is, and Telltale's Penguin so far has been just as interesting. No need to bring in another villain to steal the spotlight.

  • If Telltale does a Season 2, I'd like to see him there. However, I'm okay with not seeing him in Season 1. I won't say I don't want to see him in Season 1, but I think their current story so far has been fine without him anyways.

  • Not for season 1 atleast, maybe season 2 if we get it.

It could be interesting if we do meet Joker in Arkham Asylum in episode 4 though, but he is completely locked up and not the Joker yet, and all we do is talk to him, and then have him introduced as villain in season 2.

  • I would prefer if they do a season 2...and boy do I hope they will...I would like them to stay away from the Joker...season 3...then yeah why not... would be cool if they made the second season into a horror story and have Solomon Grundy...maybe a series of occult killings....

I love Joker, but I'm perfectly happy seeing Telltale utilize Batman's other major Rogues in the game, though if we get more seasons I would definitely want to see their take on the Clown Prince of Crime. As Batman's Archenemy, he is a very essential part of the mythos.

Though I have to wonder on which end of the spectrum he'd fall on...true to the spirit and core of the character, ala Selina, Alfred, and Gordon, or a more radical take like Penguin and the Waynes?

Troy's Joker is voice is very distinctive and different from his Batman, though I doubt they'd actually use him for both if Joker ever shows up. But it's not every VA who can say they've voiced both Batman and The Joker to a major degree.
