Cost of shipping of DVD of Monkey Island

$18 to ship to Ireland is more than a bit ridiculous for one DVD... have paid it as I want the DVD but I think you are fleecing us somewhat. Very disappointed.

It didn't bother me one bit. I just used the large shipping price as an excuse to buy the Tarot Cards and pre-order The Devil's Playhouse, because that pushed my order over $50 which meant that I had free shipping due to the limited offer.

It's not Telltale's fault that it costs so much to ship to foreign countries!

I agree - this is not cool, Telltale.

For the Sam & Max games I believe they had regular US Post ground shipping, and that came to something like $7. Forcing us to pay $18 for a "free" copy of something we've already purchased is not cool. I live in Canada and don't see why I should have to pay such an exorbant shipping price, especially when we got by perfectly well without it twice before.

Telltale, legitimately upset customers here, can we get a response please?

You've got a response. It's in the comments section of the second latest blog entry.

Anyway, it isn't Telltale's fault, they didn't want it to happen like this. Don't blame them, there's nothing they or you can do about it. You don't know any of the details as to why these shipping rates are so high, so please keep quiet.
  • edited March 2010
I guess it's fair enough - had you bought the CD version then they would have told you the shipping rate at the time. This way, the shipping fee is being applied later on. The DVD is still free. Telltale isn't making any money out of it, but they aren't going to lose money by chipping in and paying the shipping costs for you.

Edit: And I'm a UK guy, so it isn't just the yanks that are ok with us being charged loads ;)

Still, there has to be an explanation, WHY the shipping to Europe almost doubled!

    Telltale, please, anything?

    Shipping to Europe is expensive.
It's not Telltale's fault. They're making more than up for it by offering the "pay $50 or more and you get your shipping free. They're even ceil-ing the values, so if you order for 49.90 you get shipping free, world wide.

My advice: get the Deluxe version + Sam & Max Season 3 for 49.90 and you pay 0 for shipping. Basically that means that Telltale GIFTS you Sam and Max if you live in the middle of Europe where shipping costs as much as the whole season.

I'm more than happy that we have this opportunity. :3

That's not the point... the last time I've ordered from Telltale it WASN'T this expensive.
I just would like to know why that changed. Too much to ask?

Been wanting some Tarot cards for ages.

Well ask USPS as they are the main carriers I believe.

    Helpful...

So, where's the problem in Telltale just saying "USPS raised their fees, sorry!"? That would've been nice...

18$ for a DVD case - Is it made of lead or pure gold or something like that ?

And how come international rate is shown as a maximum of 13,45$ when I check it on the USPS Homepage ?

Seriously guys, this time I really have to think twice if I would like to reveive my "free" bonus DVD.

Have you read any of the previous posts or the things said by the guys at Telltale, you ignoramus? They can't do anything about it. Now get your head into gear and your ego under control or get lost.

Just because they can't do anything about it doesn't make it any less rubbish. Let the people lament
  • edited March 2010
Let them lament to themselves, I say. We don't have to hear one hundred paraphrases of whinge-messages about the shipping costs.

    Edit:
What I'm most annoyed about is that they are blaming it on Telltale, when they (Telltale) have clearly stated that the prices aren't their doing and that they can't do anything about it for now.

Yeah thats just the way to go, insult other users - who even took the time to look up the exact shipping costs, but if you want to act like a complete fool so be it.

But wouldn't this mean that you have to wait until the the Sam&Max Season 3 DVD is ready?

Sadly the Graham Annable comic isn't availbale here anymore.

I wouldn't call it foolishness. I'd call making smartalec comments like "is it made of gold?" foolishness. I was trying to make it clear to you that you were blaming the wrong people, that comments such as yours have been made and answered properly, and that there was no need for further whining.

I'm sorry if I offended you before, I possibly went a little overboard. But I believe I had I right to say what I did.
  • edited March 2010
No offense taken well maybe a little ;) but lets forget about it.

It is just that shipping costs almost doubled in comparison to the last order and as I stated before - am I repaeating myself ? ;) - international shipping is 13,45$ according to the USPS homepage, well I might have forgotten that there are other costs like packaging and custom declarations (is this the right word ?) when sending outside the USA.

Well you could say a little overreaction was involved - still at first look it is undeniably expensive.

Now there's an idea :). That was good actually, we both backed down before things got a little too, er... malicious.

Sorry again for biting your head off, I unfairly directed all of my frustration at one person.

There could be extra cost involved because Telltale is a business - I don't know if USPS' business rates are different to individual, personal rates or even if they have a charge rate for business, it's just a thought.
  • edited March 2010
Wow, this is clearly a touchy issue. They've had trouble with their postage costs before, and someone was meant to looking at it.

But i've ordered things from Japan, which only had a postage charge of $3.90 (£2.50). Maybe TTG should try using another shipping company.

As I posted on the blog:
Yeah, ummm... my Wallace & Gromit DVD was shipped via USPS First-Class Mail International and cost $11.23, while ToMI only lets me select USPS Priority Mail International for a whopping $18.00 - whatever happened to the slower but cheaper variant?

I can't find anything on the USPS site that says that they canned their First-Class Mail option... and I do believe a DVD is less than 4 pounds and fits into a 12-1/2'' x 9-1/2'' envelope...

(Okay, so I went the free shipping route with pre-ordering S&M season 3, but still...)

I ordered Tales of Monkey Island together with the Sam'n'Max Season 2 DVD on june 15 2009. The order is still saying "Your order is being processed and will ship soon. Please check back later for shipping info. ". I suppose they will send the Monkey Island DVD together with the Sam'n'Max DVD?

Since you ordered Monkey Island before the DVD was available, I'm thinking you have to order the DVD now. Not sure if you can have it added to your order if Sam & Max was never sent to you (which is weird, I mean, it's been over 6 months...)

What the f*. $18 on shipping? This is a rip off!

The only reason why I bought the whole season was a promise to get DVD for free. Now it seems that shipping costs are three time bigger than I expected. I'm very dissappointed. I'm never gonna buy anything from you guys again!

And stuff that haydenwce27 says that Telltale can do nothing about it is bull shit. Offcourse they can. I haven't seen any other online shop using $18 postage costs.

Yeah, let's hope so. I assumed they waited with the shipping so they could send it together with the TOMI DVD...

(copied from my response in the ToMI forum thread)

Bonnie mentioned in this thread that there were both price increases and the use of tracking numbers for international shipments recently. Tracking can really jack up the price of shipping.

I doubt she reads the General Chat forum -- hopefully she will address these concerns in the other forum soon.

Had I noticed that I would taken the offer too, but I looked the shipping price only after I had completed my order of Tales DVD and new Sam & Max.

I have to say that I feel pretty stupid right now, because ordering extra stuff would have been cheaper than getting just DVD and new Sam & Max season.

I think with an attitude like that haydenwce27, it is you who should be keeping quiet, frankly I have found your responses on this thread bordering on abusive.

People are entitled to express an opinion without you going off on a rant, and as can be seen, I'm not the only person who feels this way.
Bully for you that you got the free shipping offer - there was nothing else I wanted on the site so it would be pointless me spending an extra $32 on things I don't want just to get free shipping.

Luckily for me TTG has excellent customer policy and they allowed me to change my order, so that I would save few dollars and get deluxe version.

Shipping to Sweden for the Deluxe Edition: $15,75
Shipping to Sweden for the Standard Edition: $16,75
    Both with USPS Priority International.

Eh? So it's cheaper to send a larger/heavier package nowadays?
  • edited March 2010
It's probably a bug in their emergency fix for the stacking bug doubling shipping costs.
