USPS Postal Calculater Says $7.32 to send my DVD to australia by first class airmail.

I heard all the stories about USPS price rises, and while they do seem to have gone up a little why am I classed in the $18 price range when I can clearly see the price to send to Australia is not $18.

http://www.usps.com/prices/first-class-mail-international-prices.htm#cz

Australia is group 3. for 8 ounces (250gram) using the Packages (Small Packets) pricing range price $7.32, hell lets just say its a little more weight, 12 ounces 350g is still under $10.

Whoever does your postal contract is ripping us all off. If as you say you don't make a profit on this postage then they are making you lose business, and that's not good.

Edit: In fact I just looked at the prices for all areas.. for groups 1-9 which is the entire world to justify a price of $18 you must be looking at sending a package of 36 ounces (1KG)!!

All we need is the option to send by first class airmail instead of this priority crap and prices will be back to normal. (cost less than $10 to send to the entire world)

And they know this. And they're trying to do something about it. But their contract with their distributor may not allow them to do anything about it.

If they change distributors, they will have to move all of their inventory to the new distributor, which costs a lot of money too. So that must be accounted for.

I feel really bad for Telltale about this.

I understand that its not Telltale's fault as such but its still an outrageous price to charge. Surely their suppliers know they are sending overseas so this removal of cheaper services has to be some scam on their behalf they probably have cut a deal with USPS where they get a % of all the money they raise in services and thought everyone should pay more so they can get more too.

Most places are always trying to reduce costs but some just go the other way excluding cheaper options, I think I will wait to get my wallace & gromit dvd as well as monkey island because they want $36 combined for postage..
At that price I may as well buy another game.

I would understand if USPS no longer offered the service but that's not the case.

I totally agree, my orders with Amazon go through with cheap postage (usually cheaper than ebay). My last order on play-asia.com which was at a time they had a 20% off sale (which paid for the postage), I may have paid $35 for postage but at least it arrived at my door within 48hrs; there's nothing worse then paying that amount for postage and having to wait longer than a week (5 working days) for your order to arrive when you've paid that kind of price for postage.

If you pay $35 for a package that weighs 2kg or less for an international courier service and it doesn't arrive within 3 days, you've been scammed IMO.

I'm pretty sure First Class Mail International doesn't include tracking, which as far as I've come to understand is what their distributor wants now, as some amount of previous international packages has gone AWOL...

(Earlier on they've offered Priority Mail International, but now it's just First Class Mail International...)

Are you sure. I have a Priority Mail package lying here, ordered last month, with tracking (although it sucks, and likely still says it ain't shipped yet).

EDIT: Re-reading it it appears you switched around the terms in your () sentance, so it would make sense that it's priority mail.

Steep perhaps, but packaging costs and labour don't equate to $0.00, and the exchange rate currently is not favourable.
